**BBC Director-General Tim Davie Resigns Amid Controversy Over Edited Trump Speech**

The BBC director-general, Tim Davie, resigned on Sunday following criticism over the broadcaster’s editing of a speech by former President Donald Trump, which many said was misleading.

Davie, 58, who has been at the helm of the BBC since September 2020, stepped down after five years leading the corporation. His departure comes amid growing controversy surrounding a BBC Panorama documentary about Trump’s January 6, 2021 speech, delivered shortly before the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Critics argued that the documentary’s edit was misleading because it omitted a key section of Trump’s speech where he urged supporters to protest peacefully.

The speech at the center of the dispute featured Trump saying, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” However, the version aired by the BBC reportedly excluded this line, while retaining the phrase “fight like hell.”

In a letter to staff, Davie stated that his resignation “is entirely my decision.” He acknowledged that “overall the BBC is delivering well, but there have been some mistakes made and as director-general I have to take ultimate responsibility.”

Davie added that he is “working through exact timings with the board to allow for an orderly transition to a successor over the coming months.”

The resignation of Davie follows that of Deborah Turness, head of BBC News and Current Affairs, who also stepped down amid the controversy. Turness said the situation “has reached a stage where it is causing damage to the BBC, an institution that I love,” adding, “As the CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs, the buck stops with me.”

Pressure on the BBC intensified after excerpts from a whistle-blower dossier were published by The Telegraph. The dossier, compiled by Michael Prescott, a communications advisor hired by the BBC to review its editorial standards, criticized various aspects of the broadcaster’s coverage. Specific concerns included the Trump edit, reporting on transgender issues, and alleged anti-Israel bias in the BBC’s Arabic service.

In response to the allegations of bias, Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the BBC as “100% fake news” and a “propaganda machine” in an interview.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Leavitt said: “This purposefully dishonest, selectively edited clip by the BBC is further evidence that they are total, 100% fake news that should no longer be worth the time on the television screens of the great people of the United Kingdom.”

Aurora middle school teacher charged with sexual assault of former student, officials say

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) — A middle school teacher in Aurora has been charged with the sexual assault of a former student, DuPage County officials announced.

Jessica Bergmann, 34, a resident of Wheaton and a teacher at Washington Middle School in Aurora, was arrested Friday. According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Bergmann is accused of having a sexual relationship with a former middle school student during the student’s sophomore year in high school.

Bergmann faces multiple charges, including one count of Criminal Sexual Assault Position of Authority (Class 1 Felony), one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Position of Authority (Class 1 Felony), and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse (Class 2 Felony).

In a statement, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin condemned the alleged actions, saying, “The profound abuse of trust and authority allegedly displayed by Ms. Bergmann is extremely disturbing and will be met with the full force of the law. Teachers are entrusted with our students’ wellbeing. They are given the awesome responsibility to guide and protect our students, not to harm or exploit them. A teacher who takes advantage of a student, as alleged in this case, is not only breaking the law, but they are also breaking the trust placed in them by the community, the school, and the victim’s family.”

Bergmann is scheduled to appear in court on December 1.

Earlier this year, in March 2025, at the 25th IIFA Awards held in Jaipur, producer Boney Kapoor confirmed that he is making a film with Khushi Kapoor. He revealed that the project could be a sequel to *Mom* (2017), which starred his late wife and Khushi’s mother, the legendary Sridevi.

It has now come to light that the film is indeed titled *Mom 2*. Yesterday, pictures from the sets surfaced on the internet, sparking excitement among fans. Bollywood Hungama has since learned some interesting details about the film’s progress.

The source further added, “*Mom* was directed by Ravi Udyawar. However, the sequel is directed by Girish Kohli. Girish was one of the story writers for the first film and also solely wrote its screenplay and dialogues. Producer Boney Kapoor felt that Girish was the best fit to do justice to *Mom 2* as he understands the series deeply, so he entrusted him with the directorial responsibilities. Girish has also proved his mettle with the Sohum Shah-starrer *Crazxy*, which released earlier this year.”

There is also buzz that Boney Kapoor plans to announce the film in a grand manner on his birthday, November 11. The source revealed, “A clearer idea about the announcement will emerge in a few days.”

At the 25th IIFA Awards, Boney Kapoor had expressed his admiration for Khushi’s work, saying, “I have watched all of Khushi’s films — *The Archies*, *Loveyapa*, and *Nadaniyaan*. I am planning a film with her too, after *No Entry 2*. It could be *Mom 2*. She is trying to follow in the footsteps of her mother. Her mother was the top star in all the languages she worked in. Wanda Sykes accepted honors at Variety’s Power of Women L.A. event on Wednesday evening, taking the stage for a candid speech in which she shared her preference for hiring women over men as a producer.

“My joy is when I’m able to hire somebody. And you know who I like to hire? Women. I’ll be upfront with you. When it comes to a position and I look on the paper she might be right here, and he’s up there,” Sykes said, putting out both of her hands, with the “man” one slightly elevated above the “woman” one. “I’m hiring the woman. That’s just how I operate. And I’ll be honest with you, if she’s a black woman oh, pssh. Girl, you got the job.”

Sykes drew applause from the crowd before returning to build to a laugh line: “When women thrive, the community thrives. We make everyone around us better. When you get women, when we win, everybody wins. When men win, sometimes they get a younger wife.”

The comedian and producer went on to elaborate on why she sees a responsibility in her work as a producer to uplift women.

“What I plan on doing is to continue to create projects and even in my stand-up to speak and represent more of what powerful women can do. We’re at a moment in time where, with everything that’s going on in the government, we need to create projects where life imitates art,” Sykes said. “Looking at what’s happening with cutting SNAP benefits that’s going to affect single mothers. I want to do things that speak to them and uplift them. Use your power to uplift women. If we did that, and if that’s the way we moved, we would have two female presidents by now.”

For Variety’s Power of Women L.A., Sykes was introduced by Jane Fonda. During her speech, Sykes also highlighted the Ruth Ellis Center, a Detroit-based nonprofit that offers housing and resources to homeless, runaway, and at-risk queer youth.

“The kids expressed how much that place meant to them and you could see it,” Sykes said about visiting the group’s premises for the first time, as detailed in her Variety cover story. “Immediately I was like, ‘I’m on board. What do y’all need? What can I do?’”

Pentagon move to pull troops from Romania ‘directly at odds’ with Trump strategy: GOP lawmakers

WASHINGTON — The Republican chairmen of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees criticized the Pentagon’s Wednesday decision to remove hundreds of U.S. troops from Romania, a country that shares a border with Ukraine. They argued that the move contradicts the White House’s ongoing pressure campaign on Russia.

“This decision sends the wrong signal to Russia at the very moment President Trump is applying pressure to force Vladimir Putin to come to the table to achieve a lasting peace in Ukraine,” said Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) in a joint statement.

“The President has it exactly right: now is the time for America to demonstrate our resolve against Russian aggression. Unfortunately, the Pentagon’s decision appears uncoordinated and directly at odds with the President’s strategy,” they added.

This troop pullout would not be the first time the Pentagon has taken unilateral action that contradicts Trump’s approach to ending the war in Ukraine. U.S. defense officials have previously attempted to halt weapons shipments to Ukraine, only to be reversed once the president became aware of these moves.

The Republican rebuke followed the Department of Defense’s announcement that it would not replace the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division when the unit rotates back to their Kentucky home base as scheduled. While the Pentagon has not specified how many troops will be affected, the Romanian Defense Ministry stated that Bucharest expects between 700 and 800 U.S. forces to leave the country, with approximately 900 to 1,000 remaining.

The Pentagon denied that this decision would “change the security environment in Europe,” arguing that the troop reduction was appropriate because NATO allies could now take on the responsibilities previously held by U.S. troops. This, they said, was a direct result of “President Trump’s call for NATO members to take primary responsibility for the conventional defense of Europe.”

“This is not an American withdrawal from Europe or a signal of lessened commitment to NATO and Article 5,” stated U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command (USAREUR-AF) in a press release. “Rather, this is a positive sign of increased European capability and responsibility.”

While Rogers and Wicker acknowledged that “thanks to President Trump’s leadership, our European allies have agreed to shoulder historic levels of the burden of collective defense,” they cautioned that drawing down the U.S. presence too soon could reverse the president’s progress.

“European rearmament will take time,” they said. “Pulling back U.S. forces from NATO’s Eastern flank prematurely, and just weeks after Russian drones violated Romanian airspace, undermines deterrence and risks inviting further Russian aggression.”

Additionally, the Pentagon’s decision was made without prior consultation with Congress, which Rogers and Wicker called especially concerning. They highlighted “the clear bipartisan and bicameral support for a robust U.S. posture in Europe,” as expressed in both the House and Senate versions of the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act.

“The legislation also makes clear the Congressional intent that no modifications be made to the U.S. posture in Europe absent a thorough review process,” they emphasized.

The Department of Defense is currently conducting a force posture review, examining the U.S. military presence in Europe, estimated to range between 80,000 and 100,000 troops, as well as forces deployed around the globe. Although officials have indicated that reducing U.S. forces in Europe is under consideration, the findings of this review are not expected to be announced before early next year.
