Scientists draw the first detailed map of the Sun’s “point of no return”

Astronomers have created the first continuous, two-dimensional maps of the outer edge of the Sun’s atmosphere, revealing a dynamic and changing boundary where solar material finally escapes into space. This boundary, known as the Alfvén surface, marks the point where the Sun’s powerful magnetic influence can no longer hold back the solar wind. Once particles cross this line, they are gone for good, streaming out to shape space throughout the solar system.

The new maps were produced by scientists at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, who combined distant observations with close-up measurements from NASA’s Parker Solar Probe. Their work shows that the Sun’s atmospheric edge is far from smooth or fixed. Instead, it grows larger, rougher, and more spiky as the Sun becomes more active, and shrinks and smooths out when activity quiets down.

For years, scientists have known that this boundary shifts over the Sun’s roughly 11-year activity cycle, but until now they could only estimate its shape from afar. “To answer big questions about why the Sun’s outer atmosphere is so hot, we first need to know exactly where this boundary is,” said lead author Sam Badman. The new maps finally provide that missing clarity.

What makes this achievement especially important is that the maps were directly confirmed using data from Parker Solar Probe, which has repeatedly plunged deep into the Sun’s atmosphere. Using an instrument called SWEAP, developed by the CfA and the University of California, Berkeley, the probe measured particles and magnetic conditions below the Alfvén surface itself. This allowed scientists to test their maps against real, in-person data from one of the most extreme environments ever explored by a spacecraft.

The Alfvén surface acts like the Sun’s true outer edge. Inside it, magnetic waves can still travel faster than the solar wind, keeping material connected to the Sun. Outside it, the solar wind wins, carrying energy and particles across the solar system.

Understanding where this boundary lies helps scientists better predict space weather, including solar storms that can disrupt satellites, power grids, and communications on Earth.

The findings also reach beyond our own star. By learning how the Sun’s atmosphere behaves over time, researchers can improve models of other stars and better understand how stellar activity affects the habitability of planets orbiting them.

As the Sun continues its activity cycle, the research team plans to keep watching. Future dives by Parker Solar Probe, especially during the next quiet phase of the Sun, will help scientists see how this remarkable boundary changes over a full solar cycle, opening the door to deeper insights into how stars live and evolve.

OpenAI Loses Key Discovery Battle as It Cedes Ground to Authors in AI Lawsuits

OpenAI has lost a key discovery battle over internal communications related to the startup deleting two huge datasets of pirated books, a development that further tilts the scales in favor of authors suing the company. To rewind, authors and publishers have gained access to Slack messages between OpenAI’s employees discussing the erasure of the datasets, named “books 1 and books2.” But the court held off on whether plaintiffs should get other communications that the company argued were protected by attorney-client privilege. In a controversial decision that was appealed by OpenAI on Wednesday, U. S. District Judge Ona Wang found that OpenAI must hand over documents revealing the company’s motivations for deleting the datasets. OpenAI’s in-house legal team will be deposed. At stake: Billions of dollars and, potentially, OpenAI’s defense in the case. The communications could help prove what’s known as “willful” infringement, which triggers significantly higher damages of $150,000 per work. And if it’s found that the company destroyed the evidence with potential litigation in mind, the court could direct juries in later trials to assume it would’ve been unfavorable for OpenAI. The discovery ruling bolsters what’s increasingly looking like a winning argument over the practice of pirating books from shadow libraries. That theory has changed over the course of AI litigation. At first, lawyers for the authors directly connected the piracy to OpenAI’s training of its models under a single umbrella. But later, they separated the theories and alleged that the distinct act of illegally downloading the works, regardless of whether they were used, constitutes 5 billion to settle the lawsuit. Last year, a lawyer for OpenAI said that the “books 1” and “books 2” datasets weren’t being used for training purposes and that they were deleted in 2022 “due to their non-use.” Counsel representing authors and publishers called foul play. The issue has been a major battleground in discovery. At first, OpenAI claimed attorney-client privilege but later said that it would turn over some information. Then, it moved to withdraw its representation that the datasets were deleted due to nonuse and said that all evidence on the erasure is privileged. In the ruling, the court found that most of the communications aren’t shielded from discovery. This includes Slack messages between OpenAI employees in a channels called “project-clear” and “excise-libgen,” where they discussed deleting the datasets. “OpenAI has waived privilege by making a moving target of its privilege assertions,” Wang wrote. She added, “OpenAI has gone back-and-forth on whether ‘non-use’ as a ‘reason’ for the deletion of Books1 and Books2 is privileged at all. OpenAI cannot state a ‘reason’ (which implies it is not privileged) and then later assert that the ‘reason’ is privileged to avoid discovery.” The upshot in OpenAI’s messy legal maneuvering: The company effectively opened the door to the privileged material when it disclosed a reason for the deletion of the dataset. To stave off a finding of “willful” infringement, it’ll have to show a good faith belief in the innocence of its action. The company faces an uphill battle on that issue, with the court stressing a “fundamental conflict” in circumstances when a defendant blocks discovery into communications over its state of mind by asserting attorney-client privilege. OpenAI continues to maintain that it didn’t willfully infringe on any copyrighted material. On Wednesday, it moved to pause enforcement of discovery obligations.

Is Walmart’s $549 M1 MacBook Air too good to be true?

If you’re shopping for a MacBook this holiday season, you’ll find a few deals to save a few bucks, sometimes up to $250. But there’s one laptop for sale by a prominent retailer that looks like a deal that’s too good to be true: A MacBook Air for sale by Walmart for $549. The Walmart MacBook Air isn’t a refurbished or used product-it’s a brand new laptop, the lowest-priced new Apple laptop you can find, in fact. It’s unclear what partnership it has with Apple, but Walmart has exclusively sold the M1 MacBook Air since 2004, when it first announced its $699 price tag. The price has been cut several times since then. The lowest-priced MacBook at the Apple Store is the $999 MacBook Air, which you can find at third-party retailers such as Amazon for $749. But at $200 less than even that sale price, that $549 price tag for a brand-new MacBook Air is unprecedented and hard to resist, especially at a time when it feels like prices are going up for everything. There’s got to be a catch, right? After all, it seems like a deal that’s too good to be true. Well, to say there’s a “catch” implies that there’s deception going on here, and that’s really not the case. (Though we take issue with the use of the label “Latest model” here.) But several compromises are made for a product at this price, compromises that you might be okay with, depending on your use case. Let’s take a look at what you’re getting in the $549 Walmart MacBook Air. Foundry A five-year-old chip The Walmart MacBook Air is the 2020 MacBook Air. It has the same components, down to the heart of the laptop, the M1 chip. The M1 chip made a thunderous debut five years ago, blowing away its Intel predecessors with its huge performance gains. The most current M-series chip is the M5, but it has yet to debut in the MacBook Air-the current MacBook Air has an M4 chip. Compared to the M1, the M4 is 74 percent faster in multi-core tasks and 56 percent faster in single-core performance. Maybe you just read that previous paragraph and looked at the chart and thought, “Multi-core, single-core, blah blah blah. Can’t this guy speak plain English?” Let’s put it this way: The M1 chip offers a vast speed improvement over any Intel-based MacBook Air and many Intel-based MacBook Pro models. The M1 chip is noticeably slower than the M4 in the current MacBook Air. So, is the Walmart MacBook Air a bad deal from a processing speed standpoint? It depends. If you do a lot of tasks where you have to wait for the processor to do its thing-edit a lot of audio or videos, work on extremely detailed graphics, programming, etc.-the M1 MacBook Air takes longer to do those tasks than the M4 MacBook Air. However, if your primary tasks involve internet access, communications, writing, basic media work, and other productivity tasks, then the Walmart MacBook Air will be fine. With these tasks, the difference between an M1 and an M4 is harder to notice. It has only 8GB of unified memory The Walmart MacBook Air comes with 8GB of unified memory (RAM), and it cannot be customized with more, nor can you add more memory down the road. If all you plan to do is use the laptop for Safari, FaceTime, Mail, YouTube, and basic productivity tasks, 8GB is fine. But if you constantly do demanding work on your Mac, then 8GB isn’t enough. It’ll drive you crazy. Apple now includes 16GB of memory as its base configuration in current Macs, which was previously a $200 upgrade. There isn’t anything you can’t do with 8GB of RAM, but some Apple Intelligence tasks may take longer to run. Currently, 8GB is the minimum required for Apple Intelligence, so it’s possible that some future features will require 16GB of RAM. A five-year-old display The Walmart MacBook Air has a 13. 3-inch Retina display, while the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air has a 13. 6-inch Liquid Retina display-the M4 laptop’s display has much smaller bezels around the display, giving it more usable screen space. The resolutions are basically the same, though the M4 Air’s screen has a higher maximum brightness (500 nits vs 400 nits). Apple The M4 Air’s display is better than the M1 Air’s, but the Walmart Air’s screen is still very good and perfectly acceptable for everyday use. But if your work as a visual element to it, you’ll appreciate the M4 Air’s display. An old design The Walmart MacBook Air features the wedge-shaped design that was introduced in 2008. Apple got rid of the design when it released the M2 MacBook Air, going with a more modern look and feel. If you long for the wedge design, the Walmart Air is the only way to go. The current 13-inch MacBook Air design is about the same size as the previous one. The Walmart Air, at its thickest point, is bigger than the current air, but it also has a shorter depth and the same length. It’s also a tiny bit heavier. Should you buy the Walmart MacBook Air? If you need to buy a laptop now, here’s what I would tell someone who asked me whether they should buy the M1 MacBook Air: If you’re looking for a Chromebook-like Mac laptop, the Walmart Air is a great machine that will serve you well, especially for such a low price. However, if you’re going to be using your Mac for more creative applications, you should get something more powerful. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an M4 MacBook Air; it can be an M2 or M3 Air, but make sure you get at least 16GB of unified memory. Another thing to consider is that Apple is reportedly going to release a low-cost MacBook early next year. According to rumors, it will likely use a version of the iPhone’s A19 Pro chip, which is technically faster than the M1, but not by much. It may also sport a design similar to the current MacBook lineup, and a display that’s slightly larger than the M1 Air’s. If you’re in no rush to buy, consider waiting to see what this new laptop is all about.

Kash Patel’s Girlfriend Alexis Wilkins Receives FBI SWAT Security Amid ‘Hundreds’ of Vile Death Threats, Scrutiny Over Government Jet Rides

The girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel has been assigned a security detail composed of FBI agents from the bureau’s Nashville field office’s SWAT team an arrangement that comes as the country singer has been subject to a torrent of sexually graphic and violent threats made on social media and over the phone, the New York Sun can confirm. Country singer Alexis Wilkins, 27, who is based in Nashville and Washington, receives “hundreds of credible threats” in light of her relationship with Mr. Patel, whom she has dated for three years, an FBI spokesperson tells The Sun. Many of the messages, which The Sun has reviewed, are sexually graphic and violent in tone and intent, and the FBI believes they are credible and put Ms. Wilkins’s safety at risk. In a direct message sent to Ms. Wilkins over social media, one person threatens to “put my whole shaft through the back of your throat.” That same social media user sends a second message to Ms. Wilkins saying, “can’t wait to celebrate your death, especially if im (sic) the one causing it. One post from a now-suspended account on X “doxxed” Ms. Wilkins, who the account calls “PATEL ZIONIST JEW GIRLFRIEND,” which included her address and information related to her relatives. MSNOW was first to report on Ms. Wilkins’s security detail, which is composed of members of the FBI Nashville’s SWAT team, though the newly re-named liberal media outlet did not mention the death threats. MSNOW claims that the unprecedented security arrangement is raising concerns that assigning law enforcement specialists to Ms. Wilkins’s detail could potentially delay local officials from responding to other developments “such as mass shootings or terror attacks.” Ms. Wilkins has been in the spotlight in recent weeks after filing several defamation lawsuits against shock-jock podcasters like ex-FBI agent Kyle Seraphin and RiftTV CEO Elijah Schaffer who have accused her of being an Israeli honeypot. She was also flown in a private government plane regularly used by Mr. Patel to accompany him to a wrestling event in Pennsylvania, where she was booked to sing the national anthem. The trip itself, made during the government shutdown, drew fresh scrutiny to Mr. Patel’s overall use of the private plane for personal reasons. Though he is mandated by Congress to fly on planes equipped with secure communications technology, and must reimburse the government for the cost of a commercial ticket if he uses the jet for personal travel, the trip reportedly triggered criticism from within the Trump administration, including from Attorney General Pam Bondi, which she has since denied. In October, Mr. Seraphin alluded to Ms. Wilkins’s security detail on his X account after responding to a post of hers accusing him of generating “fake outrage.” “One of us has an FBI security detail despite not being part of the government or even married to someone in the government,” Mr. Seraphin wrote in an October 31 post on X. Not since J. Edgar Hoover has the FBI had an unmarried director, making the security detail assigned to Ms. Wilkins more unique. Former FBI Director Christopher Wray’s wife, Helen, reportedly received a security detail during his time in the bureau, MSNOW reported. Earlier this month, Mr. Patel went on his personal X account to defend Ms. Wilkins, calling her a “rock-solid conservative and a country music sensation” and his “partner in life.” “Attacking her isn’t just wrong it’s cowardly and jeopardizes our safety,” Mr. Patel wrote on X. An attorney from the Binnall Group, the law firm representing Ms. Wilkins did not respond to a request for comment from The Sun.

Trump-backed American Bitcoin received $100M investment from political critic

The Scaramuccis have revealed that they committed a $100 million investment to American Bitcoin, a Trump family-linked mining company, despite their sour relationship with President Donald Trump. American Bitcoin is a mining company backed by the Trump family and has big ambitions in the crypto industry, specifically focusing its business on Bitcoin.

Fortune reported that the $220 million funding round was led by Solari Capital. Other notable backers include Tony Robbins, Charles Hoskinson (the co-founder of Cardano), Grant Cardone, and Peter Diamandis.

Solari Capital, an investment firm led by AJ and Anthony Scaramucci, reportedly contributed more than $100 million in the July funding round for American Bitcoin. This is significant due to the Bitcoin mining company’s ties to Donald Trump’s sons.

Anthony Scaramucci, AJ’s father and the founder of SkyBridge Capital, also made a smaller personal investment, though he did not disclose the exact amount. Anthony is well-known for his brief tenure as White House Communications Director under Donald Trump and for being openly critical of the former president afterward. However, both he and his son have invested in American Bitcoin, citing their belief in Bitcoin’s power despite their dissatisfaction with Trump.

AJ Scaramucci has even closer ties with American Bitcoin’s president, Matt Prusak, who was his roommate at Stanford Business School. According to Fortune, Prusak informed AJ that American Bitcoin was being spun off from Hut 8, prompting AJ to seize the opportunity.

### American Bitcoin’s Operations

American Bitcoin was launched by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., in partnership with Hut 8. Under the deal, Hut 8 contributed “substantially all” of its Bitcoin mining equipment in exchange for 80% of the company’s shares, while the Trump family reportedly holds the remaining stake.

Following a reverse merger in September, American Bitcoin began trading on the Nasdaq. According to its filings, the company operates mining facilities in locations such as Niagara Falls, Canada, and Texas, housing tens of thousands of mining rigs.

As of mid-November 2025, American Bitcoin reported holding 4,004 BTC, worth roughly $415 million at that time.

### Funding Details and Future Plans

A regulatory filing cited by Cryptopolitan revealed that American Bitcoin raised the full $220 million through a private share placement. Approximately $10 million of that amount was paid in Bitcoin instead of cash. The reported average “cost” per share was about $104,000 per Bitcoin equivalent, according to the same filing.

American Bitcoin stated that it plans to use a portion of the capital to acquire additional mining equipment and to build up its Bitcoin treasury. Eric Trump described American Bitcoin as a means to profit from Bitcoin without purchasing it directly, calling it a “proxy play.” This strategy is similar to that of Michael Saylor’s company, which buys massive amounts of Bitcoin and allows investors to gain exposure by owning the company’s stock.

Additionally, the Trump family’s publicly traded media business has announced plans to raise $2.5 billion to build a Bitcoin treasury.

Political reporter who had alleged romantic relationship with RFK Jr speaks out

You can now listen to Fox News articles!

The political reporter who reportedly had an alleged romantic relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the campaign trail is speaking out about what she said happened between them.

She loved his eyes, “blue as the flame.” She admired his insatiable appetites and his “particular complications and particular darkness,” The Times profile began. “But she said ‘I love you’ only after he said it first. He called her ‘Livvy’ and wrote her poems. He said he wanted her to have his baby. He promised to take a bullet for her.”

She told The Times she hasn’t spoken with Kennedy in over a year and declined to weigh in on his job in the Trump administration. On what came over her, she joked, “Maybe it was the vaccines.”

A representative for Kennedy did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. A spokesperson previously denied any sort of physical relationship had occurred and said he had only met Nuzzi once.

Nuzzi has maintained that she never had a physical relationship with him but did engage in “personal” communications. Kennedy remains married to actress Cheryl Hines.

The alleged “sexting” scandal led to the end of Nuzzi’s engagement to Politico’s then-chief Washington correspondent and Playbook co-author Ryan Lizza (he has since left the outlet).

New York Magazine dismissed Nuzzi following the revelations and conducted a probe that concluded it found “no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias” in her work.

In September, Vanity Fair announced it had hired Nuzzi as the magazine’s West Coast editor.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Hines refused RFK Jr.’s offer to fake separation during the heated presidential campaign.

BBC director-general and UK news chief both resign over Trump speech editing scandal

**BBC Director-General Tim Davie Resigns Amid Controversy Over Edited Trump Speech**

The BBC director-general, Tim Davie, resigned on Sunday following criticism over the broadcaster’s editing of a speech by former President Donald Trump, which many said was misleading.

Davie, 58, who has been at the helm of the BBC since September 2020, stepped down after five years leading the corporation. His departure comes amid growing controversy surrounding a BBC Panorama documentary about Trump’s January 6, 2021 speech, delivered shortly before the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Critics argued that the documentary’s edit was misleading because it omitted a key section of Trump’s speech where he urged supporters to protest peacefully.

The speech at the center of the dispute featured Trump saying, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” However, the version aired by the BBC reportedly excluded this line, while retaining the phrase “fight like hell.”

In a letter to staff, Davie stated that his resignation “is entirely my decision.” He acknowledged that “overall the BBC is delivering well, but there have been some mistakes made and as director-general I have to take ultimate responsibility.”

Davie added that he is “working through exact timings with the board to allow for an orderly transition to a successor over the coming months.”

The resignation of Davie follows that of Deborah Turness, head of BBC News and Current Affairs, who also stepped down amid the controversy. Turness said the situation “has reached a stage where it is causing damage to the BBC, an institution that I love,” adding, “As the CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs, the buck stops with me.”

Pressure on the BBC intensified after excerpts from a whistle-blower dossier were published by The Telegraph. The dossier, compiled by Michael Prescott, a communications advisor hired by the BBC to review its editorial standards, criticized various aspects of the broadcaster’s coverage. Specific concerns included the Trump edit, reporting on transgender issues, and alleged anti-Israel bias in the BBC’s Arabic service.

In response to the allegations of bias, Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the BBC as “100% fake news” and a “propaganda machine” in an interview.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Leavitt said: “This purposefully dishonest, selectively edited clip by the BBC is further evidence that they are total, 100% fake news that should no longer be worth the time on the television screens of the great people of the United Kingdom.”
