Aurora middle school teacher charged with sexual assault of former student, officials say

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) — A middle school teacher in Aurora has been charged with the sexual assault of a former student, DuPage County officials announced.

Jessica Bergmann, 34, a resident of Wheaton and a teacher at Washington Middle School in Aurora, was arrested Friday. According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Bergmann is accused of having a sexual relationship with a former middle school student during the student’s sophomore year in high school.

Bergmann faces multiple charges, including one count of Criminal Sexual Assault Position of Authority (Class 1 Felony), one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Position of Authority (Class 1 Felony), and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse (Class 2 Felony).

In a statement, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin condemned the alleged actions, saying, “The profound abuse of trust and authority allegedly displayed by Ms. Bergmann is extremely disturbing and will be met with the full force of the law. Teachers are entrusted with our students’ wellbeing. They are given the awesome responsibility to guide and protect our students, not to harm or exploit them. A teacher who takes advantage of a student, as alleged in this case, is not only breaking the law, but they are also breaking the trust placed in them by the community, the school, and the victim’s family.”

Bergmann is scheduled to appear in court on December 1.

There were a slew of big cameos during the tightly plotted second season of *Gen V*. Homelander (Antony Starr) remains an ever-looming presence over the students, appearing frequently in propaganda promoting the Supe way of life. Some characters also reappear in non-corporal forms; for instance, Victoria Newman has been resurrected as a statue that can be seen on campus in multiple episodes.

One of the best things about *Gen V* is how heavily it interconnects with *The Boys*. These connections continue to grow stronger, particularly in Season 2. The season ends with a potential team-up for Starlight’s splinter group, which has rebelled against Homelander now that he has supreme authority over the United States.

Fans didn’t get to see Annie January in action like this during Season 4 of *The Boys*, but they knew she had escaped after the rest of her team was captured. With every Supe in the country under Homelander’s control, Annie obviously needs new recruits. After saving Marie’s (Jaz Sinclair) group of tortured students, she offers them a leg up.

It marks a brand new beginning for Marie, who spends much of Season 2 down and out, coping with the fallout from everything that happened in The Woods. While this approach keeps a highly-powered character believably nerfed, it does make for a rather heavy and somber story arc.

CHICAGO (WLS) — The ongoing government shutdown led to flight delays at Chicago O’Hare Airport on Tuesday. Although the airport was not very busy on Tuesday evening, travelers still experienced delays.

Earlier Tuesday, the FAA reported, “Departures to Chicago O’Hare International are delayed an average of 41 minutes due to other delays assigned to departures within 1,200 nautical miles.” This alert has since been removed from the FAA website.

Air traffic controllers are considered essential workers, so they must continue working during the shutdown; however, they are not receiving pay. This situation has left people taking off, coming home, or simply transiting through the airport feeling more than inconvenienced.

“We want to make sure we have air travel safe, and controllers focused not on their mortgages, not on the next paycheck, not on food on the table, but actually on making sure you and your family are safe,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

Despite these assurances, many passengers remain frustrated about being caught in the middle of a political standoff in Washington, D.C.

Enzyme-based kidney conversion allows transplant from type A to universal type O

For the first time, a team from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, successfully performed a human kidney transplant using an organ converted from blood type A to the universal blood type O.
