A first-year B. Tech student at South Asian University (SAU) in Delhi has alleged that she was sexually assaulted and subjected to an attempted gang-rape by four men on campus. The incident reportedly took place in an under-construction area within the university premises.

According to the victim, the accused tore her clothes and touched her inappropriately. “The four accused tore my clothes, touched me, and attempted to gang-rape me,” she told the police.

**Investigation Underway**

Police received a call regarding the incident around 3:00 PM on Monday at the Maidan Garhi police station. Initially, a case of molestation was registered, but after recording the student’s detailed statement, sections related to attempted gang-rape were added.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from across the university based on the victim’s account. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan confirmed that the call about the incident was made by someone known to the student.

**Campus Protests and Administration Response**

The alleged assault has sparked protests on campus, with students demanding accountability and a safer environment. Visuals from the protest show packed hallways of SAU, with students sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity.

In response, the university administration has assured full cooperation with the police investigation. A statement from SAU reads, “The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and the administration is extending full cooperation to the investigating authorities.”

**Background**

South Asian University was established by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries to provide educational opportunities to students from all eight member states. The university operates under the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

**Bihar Assembly Elections Scheduled for November 6 and 11**

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and November 11, 2025. The results are expected to be declared on November 14.

The current 243-member Bihar Assembly’s term concludes on November 22, making it mandatory to hold elections before that date. The election schedule aligns with political parties’ requests to hold polls after the Chhath Puja festival to boost voter turnout.

### Bypolls to be Held Alongside Second Phase

On November 11, alongside the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, eight Assembly bypolls will take place. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar confirmed that results for both the general elections and bypolls will be announced on November 14.

The bypolls will be held for the following seats:

– Budgam and Nagrota (Jammu and Kashmir)
– Anta (Rajasthan)
– Ghatsila (ST) (Jharkhand)
– Jubilee Hills (Telangana)
– Tarn Taran (Punjab)
– Dampa (ST) (Mizoram)
– Nuapada (Odisha)

### Political Dynamics: Major Contestants

The Bihar elections will largely be a contest between two major alliances:

– **National Democratic Alliance (NDA):** Led by incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, currently holding 131 seats.
– **Mahagathbandhan:** Led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), with the opposition bloc, including the Congress, holding 111 seats.

They met representatives from 12 political parties, including prominent national parties like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On September 30, the ECI published the final electoral roll for Bihar, which lists 7.42 crore registered voters. This reflects a decrease of over 47 lakh voters since the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) started in June.

Out of the total electorate, 3.92 crore are male and 3.5 crore are female voters. Additionally, there are approximately 14 lakh first-time voters participating in these elections. Remarkably, around 14,000 voters are over the age of 100.

In a significant update, CEC Kumar announced that the new voter ID cards will feature color photographs of electors, replacing the earlier black and white images.

A total of 90,712 polling stations have been arranged across Bihar to facilitate smooth and accessible voting for all electors.

**Major Fire at Jaipur Hospital Raises Safety Concerns**

A devastating fire broke out late Sunday night at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, raising serious questions about safety preparedness at the facility. The blaze ignited on the second floor of the hospital’s trauma center, tragically killing eight people.

Thick smoke quickly filled the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), forcing family members to carry patients outside onto the streets in a desperate attempt to save lives.

**Victim Details and Accusations of Negligence**

At the time of the fire, the hospital was treating 210 patients, with reportedly only one staff member present in each ICU, according to India Today. Family members have accused the hospital administration of negligence, alleging that smoke warnings were ignored and that staff fled the scene after the fire started.

They further claimed that fire extinguishers were non-functional and that there was not even water available to douse the flames. The fire was eventually contained within two hours.

**Families Speak Out**

One grieving man who lost his mother in the fire told ANI, “The ICU caught fire, but there was no equipment to extinguish it. There were no facilities at all. My mother didn’t survive.”

Another relative of a victim, named Pintu, said they informed doctors about the smoke at around 11:20 PM on Sunday. “But the smoke kept getting thicker. As it spread, the doctors and other staff working downstairs all ran out,” he recalled.

**Rescue Efforts Amid Chaos**

Despite the chaos, some hospital staff members attempted to rescue patients. Vikas, a ward boy present during the incident, told PTI that he and others managed to save three to four patients before the flames became too intense to continue.

**Investigation Launched**

In response to the tragedy, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma ordered an investigation on Monday. “Every possible step is being taken for the safety of patients, their treatment, and the care of those affected, and the situation is being continuously monitored,” Sharma stated.

**Cause of the Fire**

A short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph confirmed that the forensic science laboratory will conduct an inquiry to determine the exact cause.

Additionally, the Rajasthan government has constituted a commission to investigate the incident. This investigation will focus on the hospital management’s response, the facility’s firefighting arrangements, and the preventive measures needed to avoid similar disasters in the future.

Tirupati city has been placed on high alert following bomb threats reportedly linked to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan and former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) militants based in Tamil Nadu. According to News18, the warning suggested that RDX explosives could be detonated at four locations across the city.

**Threat Assessment and Investigation**

In response to the threat, Tirupati police have launched an investigation into two suspicious emails that contained the bomb warnings. Bomb disposal squads were immediately called in to assess the situation and ensure public safety.

The emails hinted at a potential conspiracy involving explosive devices targeted at key public and religious sites within Tirupati.

**Enhanced Security Measures at Religious Sites**

As a precaution, security has been significantly tightened at major temples, including the Tiruchanur Padmavati Ammavari Temple, Tirumala Temple, and Srikalahasti Temple.

In addition, thorough security checks are being conducted at crucial locations such as the RTC Bus Stand, Srinivasam, Vishnu Niwasam, and Kapilatheertham.
