Federal prosecutors have charged two North Texas men accused of helping orchestrate a violent July 4 attack on a U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Alvarado, alleging the pair were part of an “Antifa cell” that plotted to target law enforcement officers with gunfire and explosives. Cameron Arnold and Zachary Evetts were federally charged with providing material support to terrorists, attempted murder of officers and employees of the U. S., and discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, according to the indictment from the Department of Justice. The night of July 4, several masked individuals dressed in black, some of them armed, arrived at the Prairieland ICE detention facility, vandalizing vehicles and security cameras in the parking lot, according to authorities. When an Alvarado police officer tried to engage with a person from the group, an unknown number of people opened fire. At least one bullet struck the officer in the neck, police said. What is antifa? The DOJ said in the indictment that “Antifa is a militant enterprise made up of networks of individuals and small groups primarily ascribing to a revolutionary anarchist or autonomous Marxist ideology, which explicitly calls for the overthrow of the U. S. government, law enforcement authorities and the system of law.” The indictment claims the group that Arnold and Evetts were a part of did extensive preplanning before the incident, and that Arnold trained others on firearm use and close-quarters combat. The group was heavily armed with over 50 firearms that were purchased in Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Dallas and elsewhere, according to the indictment. The document also noted that Arnold allegedly built numerous AR-platform rifles, some of which he distributed to his co-defendants, and at least one of which featured a binary trigger, allowing the gun to shoot at a higher rate by causing two bullets to fire with each trigger cycle. Arnold, Evetts and others also used an encrypted messaging app to coordinate their moves, according to the DOJ. The investigation found that one member of the group wrote “I’m done with peaceful protests” and “Blue lives don’t matter” as part of those conversations. A federal judge in Fort Worth previously decided that Arnold and Evetts must remain behind bars, along with six others tied to the case. Short for “anti-fascist,” antifa activism can be traced back to antiracists who opposed the activities of members of the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis, according to a June 2020 report from the Congressional Research Service. The report describes antifa as “decentralized” and lacking a “unifying organizational structure or detailed ideology.” Instead, it consists of “independent, radical, like-minded groups and individuals” that largely believe in the principles of anarchism, socialism and communism. “There is no single organization called antifa. That’s just not the way these activists have ever organized themselves,” Michael Kenney, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh who has studied antifa, recently told CBS News. “There’s tremendous variation inside that movement, even on issues like political violence.” The FBI has warned about violence perpetrated by antifa adherents, and in 2017, then-FBI Director Chris Wray told Congress that the bureau was looking into “a number of what we would call anarchist extremist investigations, where we have properly predicated subjects who are motivated to commit violent criminal activity on kind of an antifa ideology,” according to CRS. Defense argues “antifa thinking” is not a crime Defense attorneys for Arnold and Evetts argued that anti-government beliefs and “antifa thinking” are not grounds for a crime. They downplayed their clients’ role in the Fourth of July incident, discounting the certainty of gunshot residue evidence, arguing that owning guns is legal, and laying the majority of the blame on Benjamin Hanil Song, one of 17 people initially arrested in connection with the attack. One defense attorney argued that their client did not know what was going to happen that night, thinking they were just driving to protest. July 4 attack at a Texas immigration detention The attack occurred around 11 p. m. on July 4 outside the Prairieland ICE detention facility, which houses between 1, 000 and 2, 000 immigration detainees. According to the Alvarado Police Department, officers responding to the scene saw a person carrying what appeared to be a firearm. When one officer attempted to engage, multiple suspects opened fire Body camera footage captured the chaos as gunfire erupted. One officer was struck in the neck and flown to a Fort Worth hospital. He was treated and later released. Authorities said more than 50 weapons were seized in connection with the group. Additional firearms were recovered days later when Song was found hiding in a Dallas apartment.

‘Let her be a kid’: A girl’s life two years on from Hamas captivity
Avigail was just three years old when Hamas terrorists rampaged through her kibbutz, Kfar Aza. On that tragic day, her parents were among the 1,200 people killed in the attack.
Abigail Idan, who was taken hostage during the October 7 attack on Israel by the terrorist group Hamas, was later released. In a poignant moment captured on November 27, 2023, she smiles while sitting on the lap of her aunt Liron at Schneider Children’s Medical Center.

Robbie Williams forced to cancel final tour gig in Turkey over terror fears as hitmaker tells fans decision to axe performance ‘was beyond our control’
Robbie Williams has been forced to cancel a planned performance in Turkey over terror fears, the singer revealed in a statement released on Saturday.
The Angels hitmaker, 51, took to Instagram to share with devastated fans that he had no option but to cancel his set in Istanbul. Robbie said, “I’m extremely sorry that I will not be able to perform in Istanbul next week.”
The former Take That frontman continued: “City authorities have cancelled the show, in the interests of public safety. The last thing I would ever want to do is to jeopardise the safety of my fans – their safety and security come first.”
“We were very excited to be playing Istanbul for the first time, and purposely chose the city as the final show of the BRITPOP tour. To end this epic run of dates in front of my Turkish fans was my dream, given the close connections my family have with this wonderful country.”
“To everyone in Istanbul who wanted to join the 1.2 million people who have shared this phenomenal tour this year with us, I am deeply sorry. We were so looking forward to this show but the decision to cancel it was beyond our control.”
Robbie was due to perform at Atakoy Marina on October 7, coinciding with the second anniversary of the terror attacks on Israel by Hamas. According to local publication Turkiye Today, organisers cited potential security risks and public backlash as the reasons behind the cancellation.
The singer has previously faced criticism for marrying wife Ayda Field, 46, who has Turkish heritage through her father, while her American mother is Jewish. The couple are proud parents to daughter Teddy, 12; son Charlie, 10; daughter Coco, six; and son Beau, four.
Robbie was also scheduled to release his latest studio album, *Britpop*, just days later on October 10. However, the release has now been pushed back to avoid clashing with Taylor Swift’s *Life Of A Showgirl* tour. Robbie previously told fans: “Due to scheduling changes, *Britpop* will now be released on February 6, 2026.”
In other news, it was revealed in August that Robbie is being sued by the co-writer of his smash hit “Angels,” who claims to have earned just £7,500 from the song.
Ray Heffernan is fighting for a third of the future royalties associated with the single, which had sold an estimated 1.8 million copies in the UK as of 2021, combining physical and digital sales. The Irish singer-songwriter, who penned the hit at age 22, aims to use the new “bestseller clause” recently passed by the EU.
The origins of the song date back to 1996 when Mr. Heffernan met Robbie Williams during a night out in Dublin over the Christmas holidays. Heffernan played the song to the former Take That star at his mother’s house, and the pair then recorded a first version of the single.

Manchester synagogue attacker ‘may have been influenced by extreme Islamist ideology’, police say – as three more arrested on suspicion of terror offences following knife rampage
The terrorist behind the Manchester synagogue attack may have been influenced by “extreme Islamist ideology,” police have said.
Syrian-born Jihad al-Shamie, 35, was shot dead just minutes after he unleashed a murderous rampage on Heaton Park Synagogue yesterday morning.
In an update tonight, police announced they had arrested three more people on suspicion of terror offences in connection with the attack that left two people dead. This brings the total number of people in custody to six, with the latest suspects identified only as a man and two women, aged between 18 and their mid-40s.
Detectives also revealed that al-Shamie was seen acting suspiciously near the synagogue about 15 minutes before the attack. Police said the suspect, who was born in Syria but granted British citizenship as a teenager, was confronted by security before he walked away.
He then returned at 9:31 a.m. in his car, and after ramming it into crowds of worshippers, he started stabbing people at random.
Two men, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, died in the attack. Three other men remain in hospital with serious injuries.
Laurence Taylor, head of counter terrorism at Greater Manchester Police, said:
“We have been told from witness accounts that a man was seen acting suspiciously outside the synagogue before he was confronted by security and walked away. Based on the information we have at this time, we don’t believe this was reported to Greater Manchester Police because the man had left the area. Around 15 minutes later, the individual returned in a vehicle and began his horrific attack.”
He added:
“At this stage, we believe Al-Shamie may have been influenced by extreme Islamist ideology. Establishing the full circumstances of the attack is likely to take some time.
We have now arrested three further people, one man and two women, aged between 18 and mid-40s. This brings the number of people in custody arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism to six. We will be seeking warrants of further detention for all six individuals and will seek to issue an update on this later.”
It comes as Greater Manchester Police confirmed that two innocent victims sheltering in the synagogue were hit by rounds discharged by armed officers. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) tonight said they are investigating the use of lethal force by Greater Manchester Police firearms officers.
IOPC Director Emily Barry said:
“This was a tragic incident that has had a devastating impact on so many people in Manchester and beyond. Families have lost loved ones and communities have been rocked by a senseless act of violence, which police are treating as terrorism. Our thoughts are with all those affected.
Police investigations are ongoing and there are measures in place to ensure our enquiries do not get in the way of the vital work being done to keep people safe. However, we are also required to ensure there is an independent investigation to understand the circumstances that have led to the use of lethal force by police.
This includes the decision to deploy armed officers and the use of force against the suspected attacker. At this time, the officers involved are being treated as witnesses to our investigation. As with all our investigations, this will remain under review as we continue to gather evidence.”
Mr. Daulby, 53, is believed to have been shot by police while attempting to prevent al-Shamie entering the synagogue during the car and knife attack. He was killed together with Mr. Cravitz, 66, from Crumpsall, who was working as a security guard at the synagogue and also helped prevent the attacker entering the premises.
A tribute provided by Mr. Daulby’s family said:
“Adrian Daulby was a hero and tragically lost his life in the act of courage to save others. He was a beloved brother, loving uncle to his four nieces and one nephew, and a cherished cousin. The family is shocked by the tragic, sudden death of such a lovely, down-to-earth man.
His final act was one of profound courage and he will forever be remembered for his heroic act on Thursday, October 2, 2025.”
A member of the synagogue’s executive, Brian Bell, said Mr. Daulby was shot as he was holding a door shut, adding that he was “an unassuming member of the synagogue who actually rose to the terrible danger, because he ran to close all the doors, back and front.”
Mr. Cravitz’s family said in their tribute that he was “kind” and “caring” and was “devoted” to his wife and family.
A statement read:
“Melvin would do anything to help anyone. He was so kind, caring and always wanted to chat and get to know people. He was devoted to his wife, family and loved his food. He will be sorely missed by his wife, family, friends and community.
We ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with this shocking loss.”
Earlier today, it emerged that al-Shamie was on police bail for an alleged rape when he carried out the attack. It is also thought that the killer had additional criminal convictions, although he was not being monitored by British counter-terrorism officers.
Al-Shamie was also struggling with debt after splitting up with his wife and young son, the Daily Mail can reveal. He had been living with his mother and one of his two brothers at his old family home on Langley Crescent in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.
Neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac said that al-Shamie appeared to be “a bit of a loner,” and was often seen in traditional Islamic clothes and lifting weights in the garden.
Al-Shamie’s father, Faraj Al-Shamie, issued a statement on behalf of his family, saying the “terrorist attack targeting a Jewish synagogue has been a profound shock to us.”
