Democrats Celebrate Strong Election Results in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City

The results are in from yesterday’s elections, and while the final ballots are still being tallied, it was a great day for Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City. In what was essentially a clean sweep, Democratic Party contenders overperformed in just about every race.

What comes next is the narrative building around how these victories can be used as indicators for the 2026 midterms. Although the burgeoning story suggests that November 4 was a repudiation of the Donald Trump presidency, it’s worth remembering that all these contests took place in reliably blue locations. But what does the data tell us?

Virginia Election Turnaround

Democratic Party candidate Abigail Spanberger secured a decisive victory with 57% of the vote, compared to 42% for GOP Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears. While this race was never expected to be close—especially with large numbers of Virginians furloughed due to the shutdown—Spanberger exceeded her polling numbers significantly.

Liberty Nation News’ Public Square polling aggregator had her leading by 8.4%, yet her election day winning margin of 15% surpassed expectations. In fact, only one poll came close, a mid-October YouGov survey that predicted a similar result.

Two factors likely harmed Earle-Sears’ chances beyond demographic challenges in the DC-adjacent region. First, her contentious relationship with President Trump—who notably did not endorse her—damaged her standing. After the 2022 midterms, Earle-Sears blamed Trump almost entirely for the GOP’s losses, despite him not being in office at the time.

Second, running on the same ballot, Attorney General Jason Miyares politically undercut her on polling day by urging voters to split their tickets to ensure his own election. While this last-minute endorsement shift may not have drastically affected in-person voting, it likely didn’t help her cause.

Virginia Attorney General Race

This contest was the only one where surprises were expected. Democrat Jay Jones trailed for weeks before a scandal involving released text messages—where he wished death upon the small children of a political rival—caused polling to shift.

By election day, an average of polls suggested just a 0.3% advantage for Jones. Despite the controversy, Virginians appeared unbothered by the scandal, as Jones comfortably won 53% to 46%.

Notably, neither Abigail Spanberger nor other elected Democrats distanced themselves from Jones, continuing their support despite his scandal. This underscores that, for some, tribal voting and party loyalty take precedence over principle and morality.

New Jersey Election: GOP Falls Short Again

Democrat Mikie Sherrill trounced Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli by 13 points, winning 56% of the vote to Ciattarelli’s 43%. Despite recent political headwinds suggesting a potential close race, the margin of victory was wider than expected.

No poll predicted such a decisive win; polling averages pointed to just a 5.2% difference. This was Ciattarelli’s second attempt, following a narrow loss to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in 2021 by three points, and likely his last.

As Liberty Nation News’ Senior Political Analyst Tim Donner noted, “He has run an effective campaign in a state that, while heavily blue, has elected GOP governors four times in the last 30 years, with Chris Christie and Christine Todd Whitman each serving two terms.”

New York City Mayoral Race: Record Turnout Amidst Divided Votes

With more than two million votes cast, the New York City mayoral election saw the highest turnout since John Lindsay’s blowout victory in 1969. Democrat Zohran Mamdani won just over 50% of the vote, defeating independent former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who secured 41%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa, who captured 7%.

To put it in perspective, Cuomo’s vote total of over 850,000 would have been enough to win any similar contest since Rudy Giuliani in 1993. This suggests that despite Mamdani’s substantial polling lead, a significant minority of voters were determined to block the socialist candidate from entering Gracie Mansion.

An aggregate of surveys gave Mamdani a 16.2% advantage; however, he was the only major candidate in yesterday’s elections who underperformed relative to polls.

The Trump Narrative

Victory laps abound as the dust settles, with many touting these election results as a damning indictment of Donald Trump. While the outcomes are unfavorable for the former president, they are not surprising.

New Jersey is a solidly blue state that has not voted for a Republican president since George H.W. Bush. Trump lost here in 2024 by almost six points. Virginia mirrors this pattern, with Trump again falling short by roughly six points, and its last GOP presidential choice being Bush the younger. New York City was an almost 70% vote blowout for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Ultimately, Trump remains the party’s figurehead, and the election reflects on his leadership as captain of the ship. Democratic supporters are celebrating not only these wins but also the margins by which their candidates exceeded polling expectations.

These election results underscore the challenges the Republican Party faces in reliably blue regions and offer early insights into voter sentiment ahead of the 2026 midterms. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the significance of party loyalty and the impact of candidate controversies remain key factors shaping electoral outcomes.

ZEC News: Privacy Coin Zcash Soars 700% as Galaxy Digital Highlights Growing Adoption

Zcash (ZEC) has surged more than 700% since September and is currently trading at around $457. Despite this impressive growth, it remains approximately 92% below its all-time high. One of the key drivers behind this upward momentum is the accelerating adoption of Zcash’s privacy features — with over 30% of its total supply now held in shielded pools, marking the highest level to date.

### Zcash: Privacy at Its Core

Launched in 2016 by the Electric Coin Company (ECC), founded by Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn, Zcash was created as a fork of Bitcoin (BTC) with a clear mission: to fix transactional privacy. As Galaxy Digital recently noted, “The goal was simple: preserve the monetary DNA of Bitcoin while fixing its most-cited design gap, the lack of transactional privacy.” Nearly a decade later, that mission continues to resonate strongly with users and investors alike.

### Market Performance: A Different Trajectory

While Bitcoin experienced a sharp correction at the beginning of the week—dropping nearly 15% in a month and 8% over three months—Zcash has been charting a very different course. Although it once reached an all-time high of $5,941 in 2016 before crashing by over 80%, Zcash currently trades around $420. This represents a 177% jump in the past month and a staggering 1,043% surge over the last three months.

Zcash’s market capitalization has also set new records, soaring past $6 billion, exceeding its $3.6 billion peak during the 2021 bull market, and currently standing at approximately $7.49 billion. This places Zcash comfortably among the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market cap.

### What’s Fueling Zcash’s Surge?

A significant catalyst behind this rally is unfolding quietly on-chain. The amount of ZEC held in shielded pools—privacy-protected sections of the network—has reached 5.03 million coins, valued at roughly $2 billion. This accounts for over 30% of the total supply, an all-time high for Zcash.

This trend indicates that users are moving their funds off exchanges into self-custody, shielding them for long-term holding. In other words, this rally is driven by high-conviction holders who deeply believe in Zcash’s privacy promise. Impressively, over 86% of ZEC’s daily transaction volume now comes from shielded transactions.

### How Zcash Protects Privacy

Zcash allows users to protect their financial privacy by keeping on-chain activity invisible to the public. As explained by Galaxy Digital:

> When a user sends ZEC from one shielded address to another, instead of inspecting transaction details, the network checks a cryptographic proof. This proof essentially shows, “I have the right to spend these coins, and the math adds up,” but reveals no unnecessary information.

In addition, developer Sean Bowe is leading work on “Project Tachyon,” a scaling initiative aimed at boosting Zcash’s shielded transaction capacity. The project plans to redesign how the network manages synchronization and nullifier storage, potentially unlocking major performance improvements.

### Enhanced Liquidity and Market Activity

Another sign of Zcash’s regained momentum is the recent addition of ZEC perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, a popular decentralized exchange. This has enabled traders to take leveraged positions on the privacy coin, significantly enhancing liquidity. Open interest in these derivatives products climbed to roughly $115 million as of October 30.

### Upcoming Developments from Electric Coin Company

The ECC unveiled its Q4 2025 roadmap, outlining several initiatives to further strengthen the Zcash ecosystem:

– **Temporary Transparent Addresses:** For all NEAR Intents-based ZEC transactions, designed to improve interoperability and transaction flexibility.
– **Pay-to-Script-Hash (P2SH) Multisignature Support:** Coming to the Keystone hardware wallet, this will expand secure storage and transaction options for Zcash users.

### Conclusion

Zcash is experiencing a significant resurgence fueled by increasing privacy adoption, strong holder conviction, and innovative technological developments. As it continues to address Bitcoin’s privacy limitations, Zcash is carving out a distinct place in the cryptocurrency landscape—one defined by security, privacy, and growing market confidence.

Houston Rockets Injury Report (Nov. 5): Steven Adams and Key Player Face Race to Be Fit for Grizzlies Clash

The Houston Rockets’ renaissance continues on Wednesday as they face the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. The major talking point ahead of the game is the availability of Jabari Smith Jr. and Steven Adams, both carrying questionable tags.

Smith suffered an ankle sprain during the Rockets’ 128-101 win over the Boston Celtics on Saturday. The 22-year-old forward, an instrumental figure in Houston’s recent upturn, tied his career high with four blocked shots, along with 12 points and six rebounds against the Celtics. He missed Monday’s game against the Mavericks, but Tari Eason stepped up impressively to help lessen the blow of his absence.

Smith’s status for the trip to Memphis remains in doubt, but coach Ime Udoke has not yet ruled him out. When asked if Smith could miss more games, the Nigerian-American said, “Doubt it, but we’ll see.”

Steven Adams also faces a late fitness test ahead of the game. Listed as questionable with a hip issue, Adams did play against the Mavericks on Monday. The Rockets’ big man contributed four points, nine rebounds, and two blocks off the bench in that win.

Meanwhile, Dorian Finney-Smith remains sidelined, nursing an ankle injury sustained during the offseason. However, the veteran forward has recently been seen at shootaround, boosting hopes for an earlier return.

### What to Expect: Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies

After losing their first two games of the season, the Rockets have rebounded strongly, winning four straight to improve to 4-2 overall. There’s a growing sense that this could be a highly productive season for Houston, especially after acquiring superstar forward Kevin Durant. Durant is currently leading the team with 25.2 points per game.

While it may take some time for the Rockets to fully click without a true point guard, the foundation is clearly in place for them to flourish.

On the other side, the Grizzlies are going through a rough stretch, having lost their last three games. Tensions between Ja Morant and the coaching staff flared after Friday’s defeat to the Lakers, with their relationship reportedly at an all-time low.

Beyond the internal issues, the roster clearly needs a boost in confidence. Right now, the team looks flat, but a couple of wins could be enough to restore belief among fans.

This matchup presents an intriguing contrast: the Rockets riding a wave of momentum against the struggling Grizzlies looking to regain their form and cohesion. Fans should expect a competitive game at FedExForum as both teams strive to assert themselves early in the season.

A Former White House Ethics Lawyer Just Revealed What Will Eventually Lead To Trump’s “Self-Destruction”

**A Former White House Ethics Lawyer Reveals What Could Lead to Trump’s “Self-Destruction”**

Former Obama White House ethics lawyer Norm Eisen issued a warning on Monday about Donald Trump’s attempts to consolidate power, suggesting that these power grabs could ultimately backfire on the former president.

Appearing on MSNBC’s *The Weeknight*, Eisen—who also served as the U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic—shared insight drawn from people who have witnessed “democratic backsliding” in their own countries but later saw recovery. He explained that the “besetting sin” and greatest danger of self-destruction for dictators is overreach.

“In a sense, the phrase is, ‘The worse, the better,’” Eisen said. “The American people will not let him get away with that. The courts alone won’t save us, but the people are the ultimate guardrail and the ultimate safeguard.”

Eisen also highlighted signs that voters are beginning to push back against Trump’s tactics. “They don’t like it,” he observed. “So, I’m hopeful that we will be strong enough to stand up to his shenanigans.” However, he offered a sober warning: “It will get worse.”

Separately, Symone Sanders-Townsend discussed how Trump’s administration operates with a belief that “when the president does something, it is legal, regardless of what it is.” She noted that Trump’s team wants the public to become accustomed to extreme measures — including invoking the Insurrection Act or even martial law — without objection.

Sanders-Townsend further argued that Trump is “in a race against time,” emphasizing that upcoming elections could either curb or accelerate his authoritarian tendencies.

Laura Lemens Boy Dies: Veteran International TV Comms Exec & PR Was 67

**Laura Lemens Boy, Renowned Press Relations Expert and Women’s Advocate, Dies at 67**

Laura Lemens Boy, a well-known figure in international TV press relations and a dedicated women’s advocate, has passed away at the age of 67. Her family and friends confirmed her passing in a statement shared after a long illness. “A woman whose kindness, integrity and humanity touched so many, she leaves behind a luminous and indelible memory,” they wrote.

Lemens Boy spent decades shaping the communications landscape of the global television industry, working for many years with RX France, the organizers of MIPCOM, on the Cannes conference and market in several capacities. Although born in the UK, she spent most of her professional life in Paris, France.

Among her many achievements at MIPCOM, Lemens Boy co-founded the International Mentoring Breakfast For Women In Entertainment, an event that has run for the past 13 years through her organization MédiaClub’Elles. She continued to support the mentoring event actively and was even interviewed about it for the MIP Daily newsletter in October, though she was unable to attend in person.

MIPCOM Cannes and MIP London Director Lucy Smith, a fellow Brit and friend of Lemens Boy for more than three decades, shared a heartfelt tribute on LinkedIn:
“She was one of the first people I met over 30 years ago when I arrived in Paris, fresh out of college, following my French musician boyfriend (now my husband and father of our son!). Laura adopted me like a big sister. We bonded as two down-to-earth, straight-talking girls with Northern roots, navigating our way through the expectations of Parisian life.”

Smith described Lemens Boy as “a trailblazer in supporting women in the industry,” highlighting her key role in numerous events at the MIP markets in Cannes, including the annual MédiaClub’Elles international mentoring breakfasts and various press events. “Many in Cannes will miss her unique, elegant and fabulous presence. Her exceptional ability to engage with people, relate to them and put them at ease was second to none. She sparkled at every occasion, oozing confidence,” Smith added.

Jérôme Chouraqui, founder of French TV industry group MédiaClub, also paid tribute:
“Laura was elegance personified. Always kind, always fair, always attentive, with that unmistakable so British accent. She took a genuine interest in others and had a way of seeing the best in everyone around her. Her career, her values, and her energy inspired entire generations of professionals,” he wrote, expressing that her passing had left him “deeply saddened.”

A funeral for Laura Lemens Boy was held today in Paris. She is survived by her husband and son.

“Mastiii 4 offers a strong female perspective”: Milap Zaveri maintains composure amid backlash

The trailer for *Mastiii 4*, the latest installment of the cult comedy franchise, was released on November 4, 2025, sparking divided opinions online almost immediately. While fans of the original films celebrated the return of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani, others took issue with the film’s adult humour and bold dialogues.

A popular YouTuber and cinephile took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disapproval, writing, “How do they face the females in their house after doing such films, you will never know. If DISGUST was a genre, this trailer is the topper. Full confidence in our janta to watch & have no issues with the content. Arrey it’s just ‘fun’ yaar.”

Responding to the post, director Milap Zaveri maintained his composure and offered a calm, courteous reply: “Mam pls do see the film. You may be pleasantly surprised. Women have a v strong role and POV (sic).” This comes shortly after Zaveri had acknowledged another critical tweet with, “Respect your opinion bhai. Hopefully audiences will enjoy it,” showing that the filmmaker is taking the criticism in stride while maintaining confidence in his vision.

*Mastiii 4* brings back the beloved trio of Amar, Meet, and Prem, with Shreya Sharma, Ruhii Singh, and Elnaaz Norouzi joining the ensemble. The film also features Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Backed by Zee Studios and Waveband Production in association with Maruti International and Balaji Motion Pictures, the sex comedy promises “four times the madness” and is set to release in theatres on November 21, 2025.

“The company nearly imploded”: Dan Houser on how GTA San Andreas’ Hot Coffee feature stirred massive controversy

Former GTA Co-Writer Dan Houser Reflects on the Stress Behind the GTA San Andreas “Hot Coffee” Controversy

Dan Houser, former co-writer of the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series, recently opened up about the immense stress he and Rockstar Games experienced during the infamous “Hot Coffee” controversy in 2005. The incident not only shook the company but also threatened its very existence amidst mounting legal backlash.

### The Pressure Amidst Success

Despite the massive success of GTA San Andreas as a video game, the unexpected exposure of the “Hot Coffee” mod caused a significant dent in Rockstar Games’ reputation. In a recent interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Houser explained the pressure the team felt while developing GTA IV, which was partly due to the aftermath of the controversy.

> “I think GTA IV was very pressured because there had been all this pressure on the company. The company nearly imploded several times due to Hot Coffee. It was extremely tough. So I think that felt very stressful,” Houser said. [58:07]

He also shared his fear that Rockstar might be forced to shut down entirely during that turbulent period.

> “As a company, we’d had all that Hot Coffee drama, so we constantly thought we might be shut down in the middle of making that. You know, a lot of drama in the company,” Houser added. [42:30]

### What Was the “Hot Coffee” Mod?

In 2005, modders and hackers discovered an explicit, hidden mini-game within GTA San Andreas’ files. This mini-game allowed the main character, CJ, to have sexual encounters with his girlfriends. Although this content was never intended to be part of the final game, hackers extracted and modified the data to create a playable mod called “Hot Coffee.”

Because GTA San Andreas was rated “Mature” (17+) by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the discovery of these unreleased explicit scenes led to intense public and legal scrutiny. The game was promptly re-rated to “Adults Only,” and both Rockstar Games and their parent company Take-Two Interactive faced warnings from the Federal Trade Commission for failing to disclose the graphic content, despite it being hidden.

### Dan Houser’s Earlier Reflections on the Controversy

This recent interview is not the first time Dan Houser has commented on the “Hot Coffee” incident. In 2012, speaking with The Guardian, he described how draining and challenging the situation was for the company.

> “It was draining and upsetting—a tough time in the company,” Houser said.

He also expressed sadness over the fact that the backlash targeted the medium of video games rather than the content itself.

> “We never felt that we were being attacked for the content, we were being attacked for the medium, which felt a little unfair. If all of this stuff had been put into a book or a movie, people wouldn’t have blinked an eye. And there are far bigger issues to worry about in society than this,” he explained.
