Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to Trump for his unwavering support in critical Israeli military operations, including Operation Rising Lion and Operation Midnight Hammer. Netanyahu praised Israeli soldiers for their bravery and highlighted the impact of Trump’s election amidst growing diplomatic pressures on Israel.

“Thanks to Trump’s unequivocal backing of Israel, we secured a second hostage deal within weeks of your election,” Netanyahu remarked.

**Looking Ahead: Regional Peace Efforts**

According to excerpts released by the White House, President Trump plans to declare “the historic dawn of a new Middle East” during his speech to the Knesset. He characterized the moment as one that future generations will remember “as the moment when everything began to change.”

Following his visit to Israel, Trump will travel to Egypt, where he and President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi will co-host a summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. The summit will bring together leaders from over 20 countries to discuss peace efforts in Gaza and the broader Middle East region.

Siddhant Chaturvedi’s much-anticipated action creature film, tentatively titled *Ramree*, has been shelved by Netflix India due to budget constraints. The project, which was to mark the directorial debut of Neha Sharma (not to be confused with the actor), was also expected to star Mohit Raina alongside Chaturvedi.

**Production Challenges**

A source revealed to Mid-Day, “Work on the film had been going on for over a year. Given the subject and the period setting, it was an expensive project. For an OTT film, this would have set a benchmark in scale and imagination, but budget constraints caught up with it. Even though the platform heads were excited about the story, there was too much at stake financially. So they decided to not move forward with it.”

**Project Details**

Set in 1945, *Ramree* was intended to explore a genre rarely seen in Hindi cinema. The film was planned as a two-hero project and was to be produced by Ajay Devgn. Neha Sharma, who had previously worked on *The Zoya Factor* (2019) and *Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive* (2016), was set to make her directorial debut with this ambitious venture.

**Industry Perspective**

Another industry source commented, “‘Ramree’ was an idea in development that did not move forward, a natural part of the creative process where multiple concepts are explored. While some take shape, some don’t.”

Meanwhile, Siddhant Chaturvedi was last seen in *Dhadak 2*, which is now streaming on Netflix.

【社説】スポーツ中継　有料化と公共性考えよう

スポーツ中継の主流がテレビからインターネットの有料配信に移りつつある。来年3月開催の野球の国・地域別対抗戦、ワールド・ベースボール・クラシック（WBC）で、米動画配信大手が独占放送権を獲得したことが大きな話題になった。

WBCは2006年の第1回大会から23年の前回までに日本が3度優勝し、国内ファンの人気が高い。前回は投打二刀流の大谷翔平選手（現ドジャース）の活躍もあり、地上波中継は40％を超える高視聴率を記録した。

来年の大会は、大谷選手の人気を当て込んだネット配信事業者の参入で放送権料が著しく高騰した。過去の大会を中継したことがある日本のテレビ局は太刀打ちできなかったという。従来のようなテレビ中継を楽しむことはできなくなりそうで、視聴者の戸惑いが広がっている。

日本野球機構はテレビ局と協力し、録画放送の可能性を探るとみられるが、好きなスポーツでも有料契約には抵抗がある人もいるだろう。「お金を払ってスポーツを見ることが日本人にはなかなか難しい」と話す識者もいる。

一方、世界のスポーツ中継では有料配信が当たり前になってきている。スマートフォンなどを使えば、いつでもどこでも視聴できるのが強みだ。9月に名古屋であったプロボクシングの井上尚弥選手の世界タイトル戦は配信のみで中継された。22年のサッカー・ワールドカップ（W杯）もインターネットテレビが全試合を配信している。

放送権や配信権は観戦チケットの売り上げ、スポンサー契約とともにプロスポーツの主要な収入源だ。各チームや競技団体は権利を少しでも高く売って収益を増やしたい。プロチームが資金力のある媒体と契約を結ぶのは自然な流れであり、それは選手の年俸アップや施設整備にもつながっていく。

しかし、それがスポーツビジネスの潮流であっても、ファン目線を欠いてはならない。地上波中継がなくなりテレビで観戦する人が少なくなれば、競技の認知度や関心が低下するとも指摘されている。有料化でファンや競技人口を減らしては逆効果だ。

日本では1953年にテレビ放送が始まり、高度経済成長の波に乗って家庭にテレビが普及した。国民は画面を通してプロ野球や大相撲などのスポーツ中継に熱中した。テレビあってこそのスポーツ人気と言える。WBC人気もその延長線上にある。

世界では誰もが自由に情報に触れられる「ユニバーサルアクセス権」を制度化した国がある。国民的なスポーツ大会もこれに該当する。

きょうは64年の東京五輪を記念したスポーツの日だ。さまざまなスポーツを楽しみながら、変わりつつあるスポーツ中継と公共性について考えてみるのもいいだろう。

10月12日、大津市で約400年の歴史を持つ「大津祭」が行われました。天孫神社の祭礼で、国の重要無形民俗文化財にも指定されています。

当日は、豪華な幕で彩られた13基の曳山が登場。優雅なおはやしの音色とともに、市内を巡行し、多くの見物客でにぎわいました。

約13万5千人の来場者が訪れ、伝統の祭りを楽しみました。
