The drama surrounding Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is bubbling over and won’t be contained until we finally know where his future truly lies. And Fox lead college football analyst Joel Klatt is joining the chorus of voices that are hoping that he stays in Oxford. Kiffin is being wooed by more traditional SEC powerhouses in LSU and Florida. Although those two programs have struggled in recent years, they have plenty of history of success and plenty of dollars to offer when it comes to coaches and players. Although Lane Kiffin has Ole Miss in the Top 10 and almost a lock for the College Football Playoff no matter what happens in the Egg Bowl rivalry game against Mississippi State, there exists the real possibility that he will hit the eject button on the season to get started on next year’s recruiting and transfer portal at a new school. Kiffin stonewalled questions about his future on Monday. But on his podcast, Joel Klatt had some questions of his own. Last week, the Fox analyst suggested Ole Miss give their head coach an ultimatum on deciding his future. Now that we know it will be revealed after the Egg Bowl, the signs are pointing towards the exit door. With that in mind, Klatt said that if Kiffin did leave Ole Miss in the middle of a playoff run for greener pastures elsewhere, it would be a dent in his credibility that would follow him around for the rest of his career. “How does Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss in the middle of a playoff run and have any credibility at his next place,” Klatt asked. “I don’t think that he would. Your credibility is your currency as a coach.” “If you say yes to everything, how can you be committed to anything? I don’t think he has to go anywhere to find success. This is not like it used to be. You see, it used to be like, LSU would come open and you’re like, ‘I got to go there if I want to go there to win at the top end.’ But guess what? The proof that you don’t have to do that is Lane at Ole Miss,” Klatt exclaimed. Klatt also looked at the bigger picture of what it would mean for the sport if Kiffin left Ole Miss on the way to the CFP and chose to go recruiting instead at a rival institution. It would be impossible to think about in almost any other sport on the planet. It would be a devastating blow to the Ole Miss team, but also send another message that the players are just pawns for coaches and administrators to pursue their own interests and paydays. “I am concerned for what that would mean for college football. Because this would be like a car accident of epic proportions,” Klatt said. “If he were to leave and then not coach the CFP, he is destroying the Ole Miss football team. Those kids committed to him as much as they did committed to Ole Miss. Then they committed to each other to achieve something great. They will not excel in the playoffs without him as their playcaller. And if he leaves them, it’s not just the calendar’s fault because he has agency. He has agency. And he doesn’t have to leave.”.

EU plans €51M Choose Europe call for research careers in 2027
The European Commission plans to launch a €51. 25 million call in 2027 as part of the Choose Europe initiative, which is intended to make the continent a more attractive place to pursue a career in research. The Commission launched a €22. 5 million pilot call in October, which will close on December 3, but a draft 2026-27 work programme for the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions (MSCA), Horizon Europe’s researcher training scheme, has revealed plans to extend the support. The Choose Europe initiative, announced with great pomp earlier this year, aims to tackle brain drain and the precarity of research careers by co-funding the recruitment of postdoctoral researchers for up to five years. EU funding will cover the positions for two to three years, while the host institutions must provide funding for an additional two years. Each programme that receives funding must recruit a minimum of three researchers. While the research community welcomed the initial pilot, there have been concerns that national cuts to research budgets in several EU countries could make it difficult for research organisations to cough up their share of the money. The draft call offers universities more flexibility by allowing the EU funding to cover either the first or second phase of the programme, although the basic issue remains. Attracting foreign talent A key priority is to attract international talent to Europe, particularly as researchers from around the world find fewer opportunities than before in the US. Recruited researchers can be of any nationality and must not have resided or carried out their main work or studies in the country of the recruiting institution for more than 12 months in the previous three years. The draft work programme gives researchers the possibility of implementing their MSCA-backed project on a part-time basis, for personal, family or professional reasons, which could benefit international scientists who still have family ties in their home country. Maria Leptin, president of the European Research Council, recently suggested that Europe should offer scientists a “haven,” in a “non-selfish manner,” allowing them to spend only half their time in Europe if needed. Related articles US researchers: Choose Europe, but part-time ERC to introduce seven-year €7 million ‘super grants’ in 2026 Choose Europe talent pilot receives lukewarm welcome A related goal is to improve working conditions and long-term prospects for researchers in Europe. Institutions applying for support will be evaluated partly on the competitiveness of the salaries and career development opportunities offered as part of their programme, as well as the quality of long-term career prospects beyond the duration of the fellowship. Supported programmes can be in any research discipline, despite indications from Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, at a Choose Europe launch event in May, that support beyond the pilot phase would privilege “frontier fields like artificial intelligence.” The MSCA calls are part of a broader €500 million package to make Europe “a magnet for researchers,” including seven-year “super grants” worth up to €7 million under the European Research Council.

App State Ice Hockey,UNC-Charlotte fight hard in third edition of Outdoor Classic
Underneath the lights of Truist Field in uptown Charlotte, the App State Ice Hockey Club team mounted a last-minute comeback effort against UNC-Charlotte but ran out of time, falling 5-4 Saturday night. The third edition of the Outdoor Classic, an annual rivalry game between the Mountaineers and 49ers dating back to 2023 and part of the 704 Outdoor Faceoff this year, saw over 3, 000 fans pack the home of the Charlotte Knights to watch the match between the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League Division II foes. With temperatures in the mid ‘60s, patches of ice melted pregame and needed repairs during the game. Kendall Smith, a sideline reporter for the ESPN+ broadcast, reported that there were puddles of water on the playing surface and paint bleeding through the ice a few hours before the game. While the ice conditions weren’t abhorrent at game time, wet spots all over the rink caused players issues while handling the puck, and they had an immediate effect on the game. Seventy seconds into the game, Mountaineers sophomore defenseman Tyson Walters lost control of the puck over a wet spot roughly 30 feet in front of his goal, resulting in a turnover and a goal from 49ers forward Ian Brown. 71 seconds later, 49ers forward Jackson Owenby doubled UNC-Charlotte’s lead, jamming the puck past App State sophomore goaltender Lucas Weyer. Larson celebrated the goal by “swimming” on the ice. App State responded in 49 seconds with their first tally of the night, courtesy of junior forward Lucas Tremont, who snapped one past 49ers goaltender Benjamin Braynin from right outside the goal crease to make it a 2-1 game with only three minutes played. UNC-Charlotte made it a 2-goal game again with just over seven minutes left in the first period on Brown’s second of the night. Brown knocked the puck out of the air and batted it into the back of the net for a highlight-reel goal. Not to be outdone, Tremont answered right back just over a minute later, rifling a shot under Braynin’s right leg for his second goal. UNC-Charlotte added a fourth goal in the first period with under four minutes remaining when forward Zack Morrow tucked one around the goal post before Weyer could cover it off. In stark contrast to the combined 6 goals in the first, no goals were scored in the second period. App State controlled the puck for the majority of the period and had several chances to score, but all attempts were denied by Braynin. The period was very physical, with both teams delivering big open-ice hits on their opponents, and a few scrums near the 49ers net after Mountaineers players repeatedly hit Braynin with their sticks. The intensity increased in the final 20 minutes, but App State couldn’t stay out of the penalty box in the third period. The Mountaineers were penalized 4 times in the first 11 minutes of the period. Senior forward Riley Brady had an opportunity to make it a 1-goal game with just over seven minutes remaining. Brady rushed to the net and tried to stuff the puck underneath Braynin’s pads, jamming at the pads with his stick. The puck crossed the goal line, but the goal was waved off by the referees. No official reason for the goal not counting was given on the broadcast. The frustration for App State boiled over a few minutes later. After Braynin covered up a shot by junior forward Jason Beck, Tremont jabbed at Braynin’s glove with his stick after the whistle blew. All five UNC-Charlotte skaters on the ice rushed over to Tremont, punching and shoving him against the boards. They eventually pulled Tremont down to the ice while several Mountaineers made their way into the pile of bodies. The fight resulted in a penalty for both teams and 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes, while Morrow was given a five minute major penalty for instigating the fight. The 49ers extended their lead to 3 in the 4-on-4 play on a shot near the right post from forward Aidan Sutter with under four minutes to go. Sutter pointed to the crowd in celebration. App State had a power play for three minutes after 4-on-4 play ended, eventually becoming a 5-on-3 when UNC-Charlotte was penalized with 2: 09 left in the game, then a 6-on-3 when the Mountaineers pulled Weyer from the net. The Mountaineers had the rest of the game to score 3 goals with a multi-man advantage. A goal by Brady after an indirect pass off the back wall with 59. 9 seconds remaining started the comeback effort. App State ran the exact same play 31 seconds later, as Tremont fired the puck off the boards, ricocheting right to sophomore forward James McGlade, who scored with 28. 9 seconds left to make it a 5-4 game. However, the comeback came up short, and App State was unable to find the game-tying goal. McGlade had a chance with 8 seconds to go, but his shot was blocked, and the 49ers came away with the dramatic victory.

Anupam Kher on Robert De Niro, ‘Saaransh’ and Survival in Candid International Film Festival of India Masterclass
Indian actor Anupam Kher brought a mix of humor, grit and unvarnished honesty to his International Film Festival of India (IFFI) masterclass, “Giving Up Is Not a Choice,” holding a packed Kala Mandir audience with stories spanning his small-town beginnings, his breakout turn in “Saaransh,” more than 540 screen credits and a career-defining encounter with Robert De Niro. The session was motivational address, entertainment and a window into his unique life as a performer. Kher was just 28 when he played a 65-year-old man in Mahesh Bhatt’s “Saaransh” in 1984. He later crossed over to Hollywood with films such as “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012) and the series “New Amsterdam,” and has performed in “almost all Indian languages.” A long-time admirer of Robert De Niro, Kher wrote papers on “Mean Streets” and “Taxi Driver” during his student years. Decades later, as he explored an international career, the actor was cast in David O. Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook” a project that already had De Niro attached. The opportunity to work with his idol seemed within reach, but to his surprise, De Niro initially resisted the presence of Kher’s character in a crucial scene, based on the former’s own reading of the script. Kher recounted how he eventually spoke up, offering his perspective on the scene, at the risk of losing both the role and the chance to act alongside De Niro. Later that night, while offering him a drink in his van, De Niro commended Kher for his performance. “Because I was truthful and not worried about being unpopular with the unit,” Kher said, “today I can claim that Mr. Robert De Niro is one of my best friends.” During the session, 70-year-old Kher shared multiple moments from his life, when giving up simply wasn’t an option. He urged the audience to believe in themselves and become the central character of their own biopic. “What happens in your life goes on to become the story of your life. Why should life be easy? Why should life be simple? Why should life not have problems? Because it’s your problems that will make your biopic a superstar biopic,” he said, reflecting on his journey from a small town to acting beside legends around the world. “Failure is an event,” he added, “not a person, and the film of your life deserves a blockbuster ending.”.

Drugs sneaked into Ohio prison soaked into the pages of JD Vance’s ‘Hillbilly Elegy’
COLUMBUS, Ohio Vice President JD Vance’s memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” has a storied history as a New York Times bestseller, as the then-31-year-old’s introduction to the nation as a “Trump whisperer,” as a divisive subject among Appalachian scholars, and, eventually, as a Ron Howard-directed movie. Its latest role? Secretly transporting drugs into an Ohio prison. The book was one of three items whose pages 30-year-old Austin Siebert, of Maumee southwest of Toledo, has been convicted of spraying with narcotics and then shipping to Grafton Correctional Institution disguised as Amazon orders. The others were a 2019 GRE Handbook and a separate piece of paper, according to court documents. On Nov. 18, US District Judge Donald C. Nugent sentenced Siebert to more than a decade in prison for his role in the drug trafficking scheme. Siebert and an inmate at the prison were caught in a recorded conversation discussing the shipment. He either didn’t know or didn’t care that a central theme of “Hillbilly Elegy” is the impacts of narcotics addiction on Vance’s family and the broader culture. “Is it Hillbilly?” the inmate asks. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Siebert replies, momentarily confused. Then, suddenly remembering, he says, “Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s the book, the book I’m reading. (Expletive) romance novel.”.

Teddy Bridgewater Could Start Against the Arizona Cardinals
Almost nothing has gone right for the Arizona Cardinals this season. Arizona sits in the NFC West basement with a 3-8 record. Six of those losses have been by four or fewer points, including the heartbreaking 27-24 overtime home loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 23rd. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray is likely done for the year following a foot injury and a subsequent benching. To make matters worse, the rest of the teams in the NFC West are having good seasons. It has been a rough year in the desert, as hardly anything has broken in favor of the Cardinals. Well, that trend may change soon. Arizona could get some advantageous news ahead of its Week 13 road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reports Indicate That Baker Mayfield Could Miss Sunday’s Game There is a decent chance the Arizona Cardinals will not face Baker Mayfield when they play the Buccaneers on Sunday. The Tampa Bay starting quarterback missed the second half of its 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams after he suffered a shoulder injury. Mayfield’s shoulder injury sparked concern that he could be sidelined for a while. If he is out, that would leave Teddy Bridgewater to start for Tampa Bay after he played the second half against the Rams. Following Mayfield’s MRI on Monday, it seems like there is a real possibility that Bridgewater could suit up for the Buccaneers. That would be an interesting twist for the Arizona Cardinals. Here is what NFL Network insider Ian Rapaport reported about Mayfield’s status on Monday: It is good news for Tampa Bay fans and NFL fans in general that Mayfield only has a low-grade left shoulder sprain. An injury like that probably means he plays multiple games in the stretch run for the Buccaneers. However, that report is far from a guarantee or even a likelihood that Mayfield plays on Sunday vs. the Arizona Cardinals. Enter Teddy Bridgewater. The Arizona Cardinals Could Play Against Teddy Bridgewater in Tampa Flying across the country to play a winning team is never easy in the NFL. It is a bit easier if that team is starting a backup quarterback. Most NFL viewers learned on Sunday that Teddy Bridgewater was still in the NFL, and that he plays for Tampa Bay. The 33-year-old Bridgewater signed the Buccaneers after he was suspended as head football coach of Miami Northwestern High School this summer. He had previously retired after the 2023 season, then rejoined the Detroit Lions at the end of the 2024 regular season. Aside from throwing for 62 yards in the second half against Los Angeles, Bridgewater has not played meaningful NFL snaps since 2022 when he was with the Miami Dolphins. While Bridgewater and Tampa Bay feel confident, one would expect the veteran quarterback to experience some rust after such limited action. Bridgewater isn’t particularly mobile anyway, so the Cardinals pass rush could have some opportunities against him. Mayfield’s shoulder sprain could open the door for an easier-than-expected road game for the Arizona Cardinals. Of course, backup quarterbacks win games all the time. But for a desperate Arizona Cardinals team that has lost three games in a row, they will take all the help they can get.

How to defeat the Astral Academy bird boss in Constance
The fight against the bird in the Astral Academy can be a tough one to get down right away. Luckily we’ve got a method that makes this boss fight much more of a walk in the park, as long as you’ve got a little bit of patience. How to beat the bird in the Astral Academy The fight begins with the bird generating several spinning circles of fire that you’ve encountered on the path toward this boss room. The fire will spawn in the direction that you’re either standing in or moving toward. This makes it difficult to try to go for attacks on the bird, so you’ll want to primarily focus on just avoiding the fire for now, but you can go for an attack if you happen to be within a close enough distance after dodging. For the bird’s next attack, it transforms into a barrage of papers that fly toward you fairly quickly, along with a line of books that either fall or fly up toward you. You’ll need to Paint Dive through the papers and the books. You don’t need to worry about landing on a platform after diving, as falling off the map will just make you respawn on the last platform you touched and won’t take any health. You can even use that to your advantage, since you do get a brief period of invulnerability after respawning. After this series of attacks ends, the bird will surround itself with sheets of paper, using them to throw paper planes at you one by one. As the bird is shooting its paper planes, it will be encircling the room, stopping briefly at each of the four corner platforms. This is where you’ll have the safest opportunity to attack. At this point, you should have the Paint Clone ability, in which you place down a painted version of yourself that can be exploded to deal damage. Place a Paint Clone at the opposite end of the room from the bird. Then, wait for the bird to move close to the clone and detonate it. This is the safest way to attack since you can easily dodge the paper planes, and the bird’s movements are extremely predictable. Once you’ve done enough damage, the bird will fly up, and a few portal hook points will spawn in the air. You’ll need to figure out the correct order to Paint Stroke through each of these portals until you get high enough to use Paint Stroke through the bird, after which, it will fall to the ground, allowing you to get a few hits in. A good way to get even more damage here is to drop a Paint Clone on the middle platform before launching through the portals, and detonate it when the bird falls down. That way, you can get your few hits in on top of the extra damage from the Paint Clone explosion. This process will repeat a few times. Just keep following the method above for each attack, and you’ll eventually see that sweet victory screen.
