DuSable African American Museum celebrates 65th anniversary

CHICAGO (WLS) — Monday is the DuSable African American Museum’s 65th anniversary. As the oldest African American museum in the country, they don’t want to stop at 65 years. And the key to keeping Black history alive is getting young people through the door. ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch Whether it’s the first slice of celebratory cake or busing a new group in, the message is clear: It’s time for the next generation to continue the legacy. “It was valuable for me to learn it, you know, and it gives you a sense of who you are,” museum visitor Allfred Anderson said. Anderson took his 9-year-old granddaughter, Faith Bayliss, to the museum’s 65th anniversary. It was her first time there. But for him, it’s been a piece of the journey. “My dad took me to the museum when it was in the house of Dr. Burroughs,” Anderson said. Sixty five years ago, the museum was founded in the house of Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs. It was then known as the Ebony Museum of Negro History and Art, before being rebranded in 1968, and today becoming a place that rivals museums across the country. “In 1961, there wasn’t a place for African Americans to go see themselves in a positive light,” said Dilla Thomas, DuSable Museum brand ambassador. “The purpose of this institution is to show us that we’ve always had everything that we needed.” The new “Paris in Black” exhibit is just the latest installation doing just that, in the hopes it will reinspire families to support its mission. “We are in a time where people are not really excited about Black history, and I think that having our 65th birthday on Presidents Day just speaks volumes as to the strength and the support and the magnitude of the museum,” Wendy Williams said. And if the museum isn’t quite enough to remind young Black kids of that strength, Bayliss has some advice. “Listen to the song by James Brown, ‘I’m Black and I’m Proud,'” Bayliss said. The “Paris in Black” exhibit is open for at least another 18 months.

After 8 years of positive reviews, Fallout 4 drops back down to a “Mostly Negative” Steam rating – and it’s all thanks to Bethesda’s disastrous Anniversary Edition launch

The Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition hasn’t exactly been going over well with fans since launch, with reports of the update accompanying Bethesda Game Studios’ big release breaking mods the game itself, too and new paid DLC falling short of impressing players. It’s been a wild time for Fallout stans recently, with the Anniversary Edition update wreaking havoc, reports of DLC “no longer being recognized as ‘owned'” floating about, and Bethesda struggling to address the problems “as quick as we can” post-launch. Reviews on Steam saw a “Mostly Negative” rating emerge for the new edition’s Creation Club content but they’ve now spread to the base game itself, as criticism floods fans’ feedback. In fact, this is the first time in a whopping eight years that Fallout 4 sits on Valve’s platform with a “Mostly Negative” recent reception it’s been some form of “Mixed” and then positive since a low drop in September of 2017. Just mouse over “Date Range” on the game’s reviews and select “Show graph” to see what has been a generally steady, nearly decade-long period of decent ratings for Fallout 4. and then look at November of this year. That’s when the reviews fall to “Mostly Negative” and the drop has come suddenly, coinciding with the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition. You can read some of the recent comments left to get a glimpse at what players are thinking as well. “Unplayable,” writes one. Another delves into why they find it so. “The Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition update is absolutely terrible,” they explain. “It broke mods that were previously running perfectly.” They add that “Bethesda isn’t showing much genuine effort” at cleaning things up. Elsewhere in the reviews, a disappointed fan exclaims, “Why, Bethesda?! Bring mods back!” Somebody else similarly says, “Thanks, Bethesda, for ruining the game I loved! Ruining the game I play on my sad days!” It’s safe to say that Fallout 4 is not in good shape right now, judging by the reviews on Steam alone and honestly, I get it. As a longtime lover of Bethesda’s RPGs (except Starfield, we don’t claim you), I’m staying away from the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition myself until it’s in a much better state here’s hoping it’s as fun as Skyrim’s own Anniversary Edition one day.

Kirk Herbstreit remembers golden retreiver Ben on anniversary of dog’s passing

For years, Kirk Herbstreit and his golden retriever Ben were inseparable, delighting audiences on College GameDay, ABC college football games, and Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football. Together, they became a beloved package deal for football fans everywhere.

On November 7, 2024, Herbstreit shared heartbreaking news: Ben had passed away after battling cancer. This announcement came just days after he provided a concerning update about Ben’s health struggles with leukemia and lymphoma. The football community mourned the loss of Herbstreit’s loyal companion.

Despite the sadness, a new golden retriever named Peter has stepped into Ben’s role as a constant companion—and a celebrity in his own right. Other golden retrievers in the family are also being prepared to follow in their paws, including Logan, who made a memorable appearance on College GameDay earlier this year.

On Friday, Herbstreit marked the first anniversary of Ben’s passing with heartfelt social media posts remembering his beloved buddy. He wrote, “It was one year ago today that we had to let Ben go. This was one of his last trips with me last year—a Thursday Night game in Miami. We love you and miss you, Ben!”

Ben’s legacy lives on through the memories shared by Herbstreit and the joyful presence of Peter and the other golden retrievers in the family.

PAC-MAN joins Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Gaming is making a big splash this year in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Bandai Namco has announced that Pac-Man will be featured as a new balloon in the famous parade, marking its first-ever appearance on November 27, when the event takes place.

The details of the Pac-Man balloon were revealed in a social media post by Bandai Namco earlier this week. The company shared that it will be launching this exciting new addition as part of the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade lineup.

Over the years, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has occasionally included video game characters, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Pikachu from Pokémon. However, this year promises to showcase several new video game-themed balloons, highlighting the growing influence of gaming culture in the parade.

In fact, it was announced earlier this month that Nintendo will be debuting a Mario balloon to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. With Pac-Man and Mario joining the lineup, this year’s parade is shaping up to be a fantastic celebration for gamers and parade fans alike.
