I bought this bizarre $14 Amazon gadget as a joke – now I recommend it to everyone

Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. I have a number of inspection cameras, and they’re fantastic for getting eyes into places that you normally can’t get to. But they’re typically large and bulky, designed for mechanics and HVAC engineers, which limits their usability when it comes to inspecting device ports or probing around cracks and crevices looking for a lost fastener. Also: These 12+ surprisingly useful tools are all on sale during Black Friday, and I vouch for them all In my quest to find a small, portable, low-cost camera for confined spaces, I found this one from Amazon, designed specifically to inspect ear canals. Although that is its advertised purpose, this tiny 1080p HD camera can be used for a variety of tech needs. I’m not a doctor, so I’m not going to recommend that you insert this camera into any orifice. If you’re going down that route, you’re on your own! I’m also not reviewing any of the ear cleaning tools. I’ll leave that to someone else. Instead, we have a compact 360-degree wide-angle 1080p camera that’s perfect for use as an inspection device. The camera is kitted out with six tiny LED lights at the tip, which illuminate whatever tiny port, socket, or internal mechanism you enter. The business end of the unit is IP67 rated for water and schmoo resistance, and it can be cleaned with a cloth or alcohol wipe. Despite the camera and LEDs, the end of the camera is just 0. 17 inches/4. 3 mm in diameter. Also: This $12 gadget earned a permanent spot on my keychain here’s why The camera connects to iOS and Android, where you can see what the camera sees, take photos and videos, and control the light on the front. It connects using Wi-Fi, and that process is smooth and straightforward. Inside the camera is a 350mAh battery that can be rechargeable using USB-C. It’s good for 90 minutes on a full charge and can hold its charge for at least a month. There is a little metal prong on the end of the unit that takes little silicone sleeves for digging about in your ear canal, and you can choose to keep this or snip it off. Why I recommend this product Let’s get the price out of the way. This camera, including a charge cable and all the bits you’re supposed to put in your ear (but that I will bin) is only $13. For that price, it makes this an excellent camera that I’m not scared of damaging. Talking about damage, my last one cost about $25, used micro USB for charging, and lasted a few years until I “damaged” it by dropping a portable power station on it. I had no hesitation in getting a new one, and this one has been in use for a few weeks now. It’s a perfect addition to my toolkit.

Arc System Works Shows New Look at Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Closed Beta Coming in December

Arc System Works was one of the studios we predicted would appear at the State of Play Japan, specifically with a release date announcement for *Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls*. While we were right about Arc System Works’ presence and the new gameplay showcased for *Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls*, the release date was not revealed. The game remains slated for an expected release window in 2026.

That said, there is exciting news for fans: a new closed beta is scheduled before the end of the year. The closed beta will run from December 5 to December 7 and will feature two new playable characters—Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. Additionally, players will get to experience two new stages along with a variety of fixes and tweaks based on feedback from the game’s first closed beta earlier this year.

During the live stream, two of the game’s developers made an appearance to discuss the project in more detail. They explained how the studio aims to blend traditional Japanese art styles with the iconic aesthetic of Marvel comic books to create a unique visual experience.

If you registered and participated in the first closed beta, you will be automatically registered for this upcoming testing phase. Those who registered but did not participate should keep an eye on their email inboxes for an invitation. If you missed the first registration window but want to try your luck with this beta, you can sign up at the official link [insert registration link].

*Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls* is scheduled to launch on PC and PS5 sometime in 2026. Stay tuned for more updates as the release approaches!

Canton elementary students honor local veterans with special showcase

CANTON, MASS. (WHDH) — The hallways of Luce Elementary School in Canton were filled with cheers, clapping, and American flags as students welcomed dozens of local veterans of the Armed Forces who came to celebrate Veterans Day.

Students eagerly high-fived the heroes, some dressed in uniform, as they made their way past classrooms, lockers, and many smiling faces. The school noted that each veteran in attendance has a special connection to Canton. Some have children or grandchildren attending the school, while others are residents of the community.

After the warm welcome, the veterans joined the students in the school’s auditorium for a special program. The event began with the National Anthem, followed by a medley of Armed Forces anthems and a touching rendition of “Taps” performed by Canton Veterans Agent Arafat Knight.

The program also featured speeches from veterans and sixth-grade students who shared essays they had written specifically for this special day, honoring the service and sacrifices of those who have served the nation.

Fellowship: All Ascensions and Curses, explained

With Fellowship already in Early Access, players are jumping into the game’s most challenging system: Ascension and Curses. These are special modifiers, specifically designed to increase the challenge of dungeons and adventures in Fellowship, further adding depth to each run. Whether you are challenging yourself or pushing for a leaderboard spot, understanding these systems is crucial to success.

In this guide, we will break down every Ascension and Curse in Fellowship—from how each of them works to how you can overcome the challenges.

## Fellowship: What Are Ascensions and Curses?

Both Ascensions and Curses in Fellowship are difficulty modifiers appearing in ranked playthroughs. You will only encounter these while climbing the competitive ladder and **not** in Quickplay.

While both Ascensions and Curses modify adventures and dungeons, their effects differ in nature:

– **Ascensions:** These are generally considered regular difficulty escalations that test your potential and team synergy without making any drastic alterations to the overall gameplay.

– **Curses:** These modifiers completely alter how gameplay works, introducing varying mob behaviors, environmental hazards, and debuffs that require a complete change of strategy.

Both systems are designed to challenge players who want to climb the ranked ladder by testing their abilities as well as teamwork under pressure.

## How Ascensions and Curses Activate

In Fellowship, these modifiers activate depending on your rank:

– **Contender 4+:** 1x Ascension (Asha’s Dilemma)
– **Contender 7+:** 2x Ascensions (Asha’s Dilemma and Vayr’s Legacy)
– **Adept 1+:** 1x Curse and 1x Ascension
– **Adept 7+:** 2x Curses
– **Max level+:** 2x Ascensions and 2x Curses

## Fellowship: Ascensions

Ascensions are minor dungeon modifiers that make each dungeon run more systematic by affecting enemy behaviors, timers, and scoring without completely changing the core mechanics. Currently, during its Open Beta phase, dungeons can have **up to two active Ascensions** at the same time.

Once you reach **Contender 4**, these modifiers begin to show up and increase in number as you rank up.

### Confirmed Ascensions in Fellowship:

#### 1) Asha’s Dilemma (Contender 4+)
The first Ascension adds a **time limit** to every dungeon. Finishing under the time limit grants you full score and rewards. Exceeding the limit gradually reduces your rewards and score. To balance this challenge, you gain a **bonus Spirit Generation** capability once the time limit expires.

#### 2) Vayr’s Legacy (Contender 7+)
Unlocked with the first capstone dungeon, this Ascension makes enemies tougher by granting additional abilities to some mobs. These new movesets vary from dungeon to dungeon, typically making fights more complicated. Vayr’s Legacy requires you to be extremely aware of enemy movements and control the battlefield more efficiently.

#### 3) Asha’s Regret (Adept 1+)
At Adept rank, Asha’s Dilemma evolves into Asha’s Regret. The timer remains the same but removes the Spirit generation boost once the timer goes out. Instead, it **reduces dungeon completion rewards by one upgrade level**, creating a high penalty for running overtime.

## Fellowship: Curses

Curses are modifiers that drastically alter core gameplay, introducing both opportunities and hazards. This dynamic system rotates different Curses weekly from a pool of 10, providing fresh dungeon challenges regularly.

Curses start appearing at the rank of **Adept**, adding one Curse initially and increasing to two per Champion Rank.

### Available Curses in Fellowship:

#### 1) Binding Ice
A random player is afflicted and explodes after five seconds, immobilizing all players and enemies caught in the blast. If timed correctly, the explosion can be used strategically to immobilize enemies.

#### 2) Blood Shards
Enemies explode on death, dealing 2% of their max health as damage to the group, while granting you 1% experience (XP) per stack for 30 seconds (stacks up to 15). This makes killing enemies quickly risky, as the explosions can harm your team.

#### 3) Carnage
Distributes 10% of all incoming player damage among the group as Damage over Time (DoT), punishing careless group-wide damage. However, your party heals for 10% of the damage dealt, encouraging smarter play.

#### 4) Empowered Minions
Certain enemies spawn with increased health and power. Killing them grants your team **20% Movement Speed and Haste** for 40 seconds, encouraging aggressive play.

#### 5) Malevolent Spirits
Killing an enemy spawns a Malevolent Spirit that buffs nearby enemies with 50% Damage Reduction and 20% Haste until the spirit is neutralized.

#### 6) Meteor Rain
Meteors periodically fall from the sky, dealing major damage. Each meteor explosion grants your team two Spirit Ability Charges.

#### 7) Shadow Lord’s Trial
Enemies no longer give kill scores but drop Shadow Orbs instead. Collect 30 orbs to spawn and defeat the Emissary of the Shadow Lord to gain kill scores.

#### 8) Stone Skin
Regular non-boss enemies have 30% increased health and explode on death, dealing 15% of their maximum health as damage to nearby enemies, potentially causing chain reactions.

#### 9) Ultimatum
This Curse increases boss health and damage output by 10%, while reducing all player cooldowns by 10%, making fights longer and more intense but allowing more frequent ability use.

These Ascensions and Curses keep dungeon runs in Fellowship exciting and challenging, encouraging players to adapt and refine their strategies regularly.

Why the scariest part of The Shining isn’t what you think

It’s been 45 years since *The Shining* came out. Since then, we’ve had countless horror movies with insanely high kill counts and absolutely shocking imagery. You’d think I’d be numb to a story where, spoiler alert for a cinematic classic, only two people die—and one of those deaths happens because the doofus couldn’t find his way out of a hedge maze. And yet, *The Shining* remains frightening in a way that’s really hard to pin down.

How did Stanley Kubrick manage to make shots of a hallway creepy? Well, by making those hallways feel not just scary, but more specifically, *uncanny*.

These days, “uncanny” is a concept most often used in discourse about robots and computer animation. The Uncanny Valley—you know the feeling it evokes. Think about the abject horror of that kid from *The Polar Express*—good god, get him off the screen.

The *Uncanny* (capital T, capital U) speaks to the fear of something that isn’t fully unknown. It’s unfamiliar while retaining elements of familiarity, and that tension causes a deep sense of unease. Returning to the Valley, imagine robots that move in a way that’s slightly wrong. Suddenly, you feel unsafe, in danger, but you’re not even sure exactly why.

And this feeling isn’t confined to robots and animation. A lot can be described as uncanny, including ghosts, doppelgängers, mirrors, and even human faces. Breaking it down, there’s a throughline here: we’re confronted with human or humanoid bodies not quite lining up with what we’re expecting. This pulls at fears of loss of identity, fears about mortality, fears of childhood nightmares suddenly becoming true.

But let’s take one step further—over the threshold from uncanny bodies to uncanny places.

For example, have you ever been in a dead mall? There should be people there. It’s built for foot traffic and to allow noise to carry, but it’s empty, silent, falling apart. There’s nothing dangerous there, but it feels terrible to be there. It just feels off.

Kubrick leaned all the way into this feeling with *The Shining*, which is set in a hotel that’s closed for the season. The halls and sitting rooms are empty—*too* empty. It’s disquieting from the jump because this just isn’t what a hotel is supposed to look like or feel like.

Sure, lots of movies are set in creepy old houses, but *The Overlook Hotel* isn’t “creepy” at least on its face. There aren’t cobwebs, creaky floorboards, or disjointed architecture that distinguish the classic haunted house. Instead, Kubrick decided to make the Overlook as real as possible—by sending out photographers to capture hundreds of pictures of real hotel halls, rooms, and elevators. He then picked the ones he found most interesting or evocative to build his sets from, replicating them down to the inch.

Literally, they photographed the spaces with rulers in frame to make sure everything was fully to scale. The Red Bathroom where Jack meets Grady was a real bathroom, created one-to-one on a soundstage in England.

The fact that all these spaces are clean, mundane, and downright normal only makes the discomfort all the more pronounced because they feel like spaces we’re familiar with. But something is clearly wrong in this hotel—and we just can’t put our finger on what that wrongness is.

It’s been 45 years, but the vibes of *The Overlook* are still a phenomenon.

Sure, the lady in the tub is pretty scary, as are the twins. But, at least for us, the most memorable parts of this movie are the long shots tracking through the hallways, the echoing emptiness of the Colorado Lounge, and the unshakeable feeling of wrongness that *The Overlook Hotel* brings simply by being normal, and yet not—all at once.

What do you think? Does *The Shining* still give you nightmares, or has it gotten dated, at least as an entry in the horror genre? Let us know in the comments!

Keri Russell Tells ‘WWHL’ She Regrets Stripping Down For A Bon Jovi Music Video: “Did I Need To Take Off My Shirt And Have A Green Bra?”

Keri Russell Reveals the Role She Regrets the Most

On Wednesday night’s (Oct. 22) episode of *Watch What Happens Live*, host Andy Cohen asked *Felicity* alum Keri Russell if there were any projects she wished she could “scrap” from her IMDb page forever.

“Well, I’m sure there’s a million,” she answered.

It wasn’t until later in the episode that she specifically remembered which role she would get rid of. When asked about her experience starring in Bon Jovi’s “Always” music video, Russell recalled, “I was in a green bra. When he said, ‘Do you regret something?’ I was like, ‘Did I need to take off my shirt and have a green bra in a Bon Jovi video?’”

Cohen, however, argued, “I think it’s kind of iconic.”

Meanwhile, Russell’s *Diplomat* co-star Allison Janney—who was seated by her side in the Bravo Clubhouse—confessed that she had never seen the 1994 music video, which also starred actress Carla Gugino.

“I don’t know how you haven’t seen it. It was everywhere,” Russell joked.

“I’m just kidding. No one saw it.”

As for what else she remembered about her experience on set, Russell added, “I did not meet Bon Jovi. You know, back when MTV would make films for the videos? It was one of those.”

Keri Russell Isn’t the Only Celebrity in a Bon Jovi Video

Russell isn’t the only celebrity to have starred in a Bon Jovi music video. *Vanderpump Rules* star Tom Sandoval played a man involved in an affair in the band’s 2002 music videos for “Misunderstood” and “All About Lovin’ You.”

“That was one of the coolest experiences of my life,” Sandoval told *Decider* in an August interview.

“Just to be pretty recent out of high school, I remember going to that audition and having to leave and come back and leave and come back again. It was a long, long wait to get in there, and it was such a big production.”

He continued, “It was a very action-packed video. It was amazing to shoot, and I will always remember that experience very fondly for the rest of my life.

“It was just such a cool thing to be in a big music video that’s showing on VH1 on TRL. It was pretty cool.”
