FICCI Frames 2025 Launches Media Revolution

The 25th edition of FICCI FRAMES, India’s premier Media and Entertainment (M&E) event, commenced on Tuesday at The Fairmont Hotel near Sahar Airport. Bringing together over 3,000 participants from the film, TV, digital, and creative sectors, the event includes government officials, business leaders, and artists.

### Theme and Opening

This year’s theme, **“RISE Together – Reimagine, Innovate, Strengthen, Empower,”** reflects the industry’s commitment to collaboration and growth. The opening day featured a significant dialogue between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and popular Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. They discussed Maharashtra’s continued pivotal role in shaping India’s film and entertainment landscape. The Chief Minister also outlined the state government’s plans to support and expand this creative sector.

### Government Support and Industry Insights

Union Minister of State L. Murugan and Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized the government’s dedication to nurturing India’s creative economy. They highlighted the importance of embracing new technologies and policies that empower creators and businesses across media and entertainment.

### Major Highlights: FICCI IICT and Netflix Partnership

One of the day’s standout moments was the announcement of a new partnership between FICCI’s Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICT) and Netflix. The agreement aims to bolster India’s AVGC sector—covering animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality. This collaboration seeks to enhance skill development for students and professionals and foster the creation of superior content through advanced technologies.

### Industry Leaders and Emerging Technologies

Several key sessions featured industry leaders such as TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti, who discussed the expansion of broadcasting, and Sandhya Devanathan from Meta, who shared valuable insights on digital platforms. There were also engaging conversations on how artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing media and content creation, demonstrating the sector’s rapid adaptation to cutting-edge technology.

### Silver Jubilee Celebrations: Vision, Voices & Creativity

FICCI FRAMES 2025 marks a significant milestone—the silver jubilee edition of the convention. The theme **“Framing 25 Years of Indian M&E: A Silver Jubilee of Vision, Voices & Creativity”** pays tribute to the imagination, innovation, and industry power that have redefined India’s creative economy globally.

The inaugural session included distinguished guests such as Advocate Ashish Shelar, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra; Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting; Anant Goenka, Senior Vice President of FICCI; Sandhya Devanathan, VP & Head – India and South East Asia, Meta; and Kevin Vaz, Chairman of FICCI M&E Committee and CEO – Entertainment, JioStar.

Sanjay Jaju remarked,
> “The industry creates more than 8 million jobs directly and many more indirectly. When FICCI FRAMES began 25 years ago, the demand was for this sector to be recognized as an industry. Today, it is not just an industry but an entire ecosystem of dreams, bringing together art, technology, and above all, aspirations.”

### Voices from the Industry

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, the official FRAMES Ambassador for this year, added a creative perspective, reflecting on the evolution of India’s cultural narrative and its increasing global influence.

During the fireside chat with Akshay Kumar, CM Fadnavis acknowledged that the Film City project remained unexecuted during his previous tenure between 2014 and 2019 despite extensive planning.
> “This time I have decided that we will convert Film City into a world-class film ecosystem,” he stated, adding that the transformation would commence within a year. Akshay Kumar urged the Chief Minister to prioritize this transformation.

### Film City Redevelopment

The redevelopment plan includes building state-of-the-art studios equipped for emerging technologies such as virtual production, artificial intelligence, and advanced visual effects. The site already hosts the Indian Institute of Creative Technology, a unique institution with 52% ownership by industry bodies like FICCI and the remainder held by the Maharashtra and Indian governments.

### Maharashtra Government’s Vision

Advocate Ashish Shelar, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Information Technology, Government of Maharashtra, highlighted that the state’s media and entertainment sector contributes over ₹2 lakh crore to the regional GDP. The government is actively rolling out a comprehensive film policy and developing new film cities across Maharashtra to meet growing industry demand.

### Additional Key Sessions

Day 1 also featured several keynote sessions and panel discussions with prominent industry personalities such as Director Shoojit Sirkar, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Kevin Vaz (CEO, Entertainment at JioStar), and Arun Srinivas (Meta India), among others.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Begs Judge to Let Him Spend Remainder of his Four-Year Sentence at Low-Level New Jersey Prison in Order for Rapper to See Family

**Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Requests Transfer to Low-Security Prison for Drug Rehab and Family Visits**

*Published: October 7, 2025, 4:00 p.m. ET*

Rapper and mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has formally requested a judge to allow him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at a low-security federal prison. According to RadarOnline.com, Combs, who was sentenced to 50 months behind bars and fined $500,000 following a conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, believes that Fort Dix in New Jersey would be better equipped to address his drug issues and help him maintain regular contact with his family.

### Combs’ Letter to the Court

On Monday, October 6, Teny Geragos, one of Combs’ attorneys, filed a letter urging the judge to recommend Combs’ placement at FCI Fort Dix. The letter stated:

> “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for Residential Drug Abuse Program purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”

### Background of the Case

Combs’ eight-week trial brought to light his years-long battle with drug addiction and a history of domestic violence. During a dramatic six-hour sentencing hearing, both Combs and his six adult children made emotional pleas for leniency. His attorneys emphasized that their client is a “changed” man who should be given mental health treatment and enrolled in programs targeting domestic violence and substance abuse as part of his rehabilitation.

### Fort Dix: A Low-Security Facility with Strong Programs

Fort Dix is the largest single federal prison in the United States, housing approximately 4,100 men. The institution itself accommodates 3,800 inmates, while an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp holds 200 more. Located on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, just 75 miles from New York City, Fort Dix is classified as a low-security prison.

This classification means the facility has double-fenced perimeters, mainly dormitory-style housing or cubicles, and a strong emphasis on work and rehabilitation programs, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

### Notable Past Inmates and Security Concerns

Over the years, Fort Dix has housed many high-profile inmates, including reputed mobsters, drug traffickers, corrupt politicians, and controversial figures like Martin Shkreli.

During his incarceration, Shkreli was placed in solitary confinement following allegations that he used a contraband smartphone to operate his pharmaceutical company while behind bars—activities strictly prohibited for inmates.

The prison was once overseen by warden Lamine N’Diaye, who managed a Manhattan federal jail at the time financier Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide there in 2019. N’Diaye has since retired.

### Contraband Issues and Enforcement

In 2019, Fort Dix experienced issues with contraband smuggling via drones, bringing in prohibited items such as cellphones, tobacco, weight-loss supplements, and eyeglasses. The same year, a correctional officer pleaded guilty to accepting bribes to smuggle contraband into the facility.

### Life at Fort Dix: Food Options and Facilities

If Combs’ request is granted, the 55-year-old music mogul will have access to an extensive commissary selection, including snacks like pork rinds, plantain chips, Doritos, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and even octopus.

### Current Status and Sentence Details

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024. The time already served there will be deducted from his overall sentence, making him eligible for release in roughly three years.

*Stay tuned for updates on Combs’ sentencing and incarceration arrangements.*

East Indians Demand Naming Of Mumbai Airport Terminal After Freedom Fighter Joseph ‘Kaka’ Baptista

Following the government’s decision to name the Navi Mumbai International Airport after D. B. Patil, a late local leader, members of the East Indian community have now urged authorities to rename the domestic terminal of the Mumbai airport in honour of freedom fighter Joseph Baptista, one of the city’s original inhabitants.

### Call for Recognition of East Indian Heritage

The East Indian community has drawn parallels between the histories of the two airports. While the Navi Mumbai airport was constructed on land acquired from Agris, Kolis, and other local castes, the Mumbai airport too was built on farmland belonging to East Indians, who are Roman Catholic converts from the same castes.

Community members argue that the contribution of East Indians, who gave up their ancestral land for urban development, deserves similar recognition.

### Honouring an Unsung Hero

Joseph “Kaka” Baptista, a close associate of Lokmanya Tilak, was a prominent freedom fighter, lawyer at the Bombay High Court, and also served as Mayor of Bombay.

Vicky Misquitta, from the Mobai Gaothan Panchayat’s Mumbai East Indian Bhumiputra Rights project, said that renaming one of the airport terminals after Baptista would be a fitting tribute to an unsung national hero and would acknowledge the East Indian community’s sacrifices.

“The East Indian community has a rich history, and their ancestral lands, including those in the Mumbai airport, are a testament to their significant contributions to the city as its indigenous people. The 7/12 extracts serve as proof of their ownership and connection to the land,” said Misquitta.

### Appeal for Government Consideration

Alphi D’Souza, MGP chief, whose family once owned land where the Mumbai airport now stands, commended the Navi Mumbai Agri community’s efforts to have the new airport named after D. B. Patil.

He urged the government to similarly honour Kaka Baptista for his immense contribution to India’s freedom struggle and for representing the voice of Mumbai’s original inhabitants.

Kearny school opens new library, expands opportunities for students

After years without a library, the General Philip Kearny School now boasts a fully equipped space where students can access books, computers, and a variety of learning resources. This new addition is part of a broader effort to provide tailored academic programs—including Algebra I for eighth graders—as well as extracurricular activities like music and dance.

With strong community support and a focus on equity, Kearny is creating an inclusive environment that supports both students and their families.

“Our staff, along with the community, came together to create this library space,” said Principal Sabrina Scott-Feggins. “It’s filled with culturally rich books, computers, and other valuable resources.”

A retired librarian has volunteered to help organize the library and train both students and teachers on how to use it effectively. “We even have resources that allow us to work with our parents in that space,” Scott-Feggins added.

**Tailored Academic Programs**

To help prepare students for the next level, Kearny not only participates in all of the school district’s academic initiatives but has also introduced Algebra I for eighth graders. Scott-Feggins explained that early exposure to high school-level math gives students a strong foundation and a competitive edge as they transition into high school.

“We often discuss equity and access for students, but we don’t always follow through with the next step,” she said. “This year, we’re taking that next step by offering Algebra I to our eighth graders, and we’re really excited about it.”

Scott-Feggins emphasized how Kearny is tailoring instruction to meet each student’s unique needs, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.

“For instance, we have two fifth-grade girls who are performing at their grade level but receive reading and math instruction at a sixth-grade level,” she explained. “They spend part of the period learning with their peers, then move on to enrichment in the higher-level class.”

“This is the kind of individualized support we provide. We also hold conferences with families when a student is struggling. We identify the challenges and develop a plan tailored to each student’s needs,” she added. “We avoid a blanket approach to learning and focus on equitable practices that meet each student where they are.”

**Extracurricular Activities**

In addition to academics, Kearny offers students a variety of extracurricular activities, including music, dance, and flag football.

“We are using Beyond the Bars, a music program designed specifically for our middle school students,” Scott-Feggins said. “In the program, students learn to play guitars and keyboards, and they also use computers to produce music.”

They have also partnered with the Philadelphia Ballet, following their program throughout most of the school year. “At the end, we held a recital together with other participating schools.”

Kearny collaborates with the Wagner Institute of Science to support their science curriculum.

**Supporting the School Community**

Beyond academics and student wellness, Kearny is deeply committed to supporting the broader school community. Scott-Feggins highlighted several ongoing efforts to help meet families’ basic needs—from food and clothing to holiday support.

“We have partnered with Sharing Excess, a food donation program,” she explained. “They provide fresh fruits and vegetables that we pack and distribute to our families.”

Additionally, the school offers a clothing giveaway with gently used and new clothes available every Thursday. They also run a consistent Thanksgiving effort each year to support families during the holidays.

“At Kearny, we’ve worked hard to create an inclusive environment where students have endless opportunities and their families receive the support they need,” Scott-Feggins added.

The Us@250 Experience

**Pride. Reckoning. Aspiration.**

As an American, you can experience all of these feelings at the same time: hold pride in our progress, reckon with our problematic past, and aspire for a better future.

That is at the heart of New America’s *Us@250* initiative—an effort to deepen our understanding of our national identity by expanding the American narrative to include the rich, complex histories of all of us.

Ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, join New America this fall for robust conversations on these themes with policymakers, visual artists, community organizers, and more.

Together, we’ll explore the truths and contradictions about ourselves and our country through poetry, film, comedy, story, and music.

We’ll also ask big questions: Given the nation’s history, who might we become if we truly live up to its founding ideals? Who belongs here, and who will be welcome? And how can we make the promise of America available to all?

Inhalers for asthma, COPD are climate change contributors, study finds

Inhalers that provide fast-acting treatment for people with certain respiratory conditions are contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, which can worsen both climate change and the conditions themselves, according to new research.

Published Monday in the *Journal of the American Medical Association*, the study found that inhalers approved for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) generated an estimated 24.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in the United States from 2014 to 2024. This amount is equivalent to the emissions of about 530,000 gas-powered cars each year.

“Scaled across tens of millions of inhalers dispensed annually, these emissions drive global warming, exacerbating the very respiratory conditions inhalers are meant to relieve,” authors of a supplemental editorial note wrote.

Asthma and chronic lung disease affect millions of Americans. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, 28 million Americans have asthma, and 34 million live with chronic lung disease. These cases are expected to increase as climate change worsens air pollution, which in turn raises the risk and severity of respiratory symptoms.

Researchers identified metered-dose inhalers—the boot-shaped treatment devices many people picture—as the most harmful to the environment. These inhalers accounted for 98% of emissions over the decade-long period. However, it’s not the medication itself causing the issue.

The problem lies in the hydrofluoroalkane propellants contained in these inhalers. Hydrofluoroalkanes are potent greenhouse gases widely used in products like aerosol sprays, which significantly contribute to the carbon footprint.

“Inhalers add to the growing carbon footprint of the US healthcare system, putting many patients with chronic respiratory disease at risk,” said lead author Dr. William Feldman, a pulmonologist and health services researcher at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, in a news release. “On the upside, there is tremendous opportunity to make changes that protect both patients and the planet by utilizing lower-emission alternatives.”

The study also found that other types of inhalers, such as dry powder inhalers and soft mist inhalers, are less harmful to the environment. These devices deliver medication to the lungs without the need for propellants, offering a greener alternative for patients and healthcare systems alike.

Mixed-use project proposed for former Hanson’s site in Platt Park

Doug McKinnon plans to revamp the gateway to South Pearl Street’s shops and restaurants in Platt Park. The real estate investor, through his firm McKinnon & Associates, submitted redevelopment plans last week to the city of Denver for his 0.29-acre lot at 1301 S. Pearl St., located adjacent to the iconic South Pearl sign that welcomes visitors to the neighborhood.

The property formerly housed Hansons, a burger joint that closed in 2020 and was demolished within the past year. McKinnon purchased the lot for $2.9 million in cash last December.

His proposed three-story building aims to offer a mixed-use space. The ground-floor corner is intended for a restaurant, with additional retail spaces facing Pearl Street and residential units along Louisiana Avenue. The second and third floors are planned to include both residential and office spaces. The development would also feature underground parking. Local design firm OZ Architecture drew up the plans.

“Given the preliminary nature of the plan, it is a little premature for us to get too deep into specific details of the project,” McKinnon wrote in an email to BusinessDen.

McKinnon is the second owner to explore redevelopment of the site. Before his purchase, the property was owned by Greenwood Village-based Cadence Capital Investments. Cadence acquired the two-story building in September 2020 for $2.6 million and submitted plans to convert the existing structure into an office building. However, no work on the site ultimately took place.
