Selma man found alive after 20 days lost in Sierra wilderness

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) – A miracle moment unfolded when missing Selma man Ron Dailey was found after being lost for 20 days. A group of hunters discovered him on the Swamp Lake Trail on Saturday, and this photo captures the moment he was loaded into an ambulance.

Dailey had set out for a day of hunting but never returned home. When he didn’t come back as expected, his family contacted the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to report him missing.

On Sunday, as he lay in the hospital, Dailey’s daughter Breanna recorded him recounting his harrowing experience in his own words. He explained how he ended up lost on the Swamp Lake Trail:

“I went over this thing, and it was scraping bottom. I looked up the tree in front of it, it said Diamond Road, jeep road. That means you better have a rock crawler. I don’t have a rock crawler,” Dailey said.

Despite this, he continued down the trail. Eventually, he realized his truck was destroyed and decided to use it as shelter. The family informed authorities that Ron had brought food meant to last about two weeks.

After several days spent at approximately 10,000 feet elevation, Dailey knew he had to take action. “You either try to walk out or you’re gonna sit here and die. So, I got my garb on, my boots on and I started walking. It was the toughest walk I’ve ever done in my life,” he said.

Dailey recounted falling several times while descending a rocky hill. Near the bottom, he noticed he had lost his phone. Despite the challenges, after walking several miles and praying for help, relief finally came.

“I said, ‘Lord, you gotta send someone up here to me. I can’t hardly walk anymore, Lord, you gotta help me, Father God.’ I raise my head up and I see a car with headlights on. And I go, ‘Oh, God, thank you Lord,’” he shared.

Dailey’s daughter says he is currently on fluids, and doctors are conducting necessary tests. If all goes well, Ron Dailey is expected to be able to go home tomorrow.

Virginia Wild Card: Turnout Among Black Voters

The conventional wisdom among most election analysts is that the 2025 Virginia gubernatorial contest between Republican Winsome Earle-Sears and Democrat Abigail Spanberger will be won by the latter. This consensus is primarily based on a series of polls that purport to show her ahead by very comfortable margins.

All such surveys, however, necessarily incorporate certain assumptions about the makeup of the electorate and turnout. If those assumptions are inaccurate, pollsters can end up wiping a lot of egg yolk off their faces.

In the Old Dominion, 45 days of early voting has produced a record-breaking turnout—except in localities where most of the electorate consists of Black voters. This suggests that the pollsters need to keep clean towels on hand.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, the big problem for the “good guys” is the unemployed apparatchiks in the northern part of the Commonwealth. They are not happy, and they will vote for Abigail Spanberger. Moreover, the early vote numbers suggest that many already have done so. There is also the so-called fifth column that we still call “educators.”

In the end, though, Virginia has given us a 45-day preview of the election, and the voters Spanberger desperately needs just aren’t buying it. Good.

Orlando Pride clinch home-field advantage for playoffs after 1-1 draw with Seattle Reign FC

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Pride secured home-field advantage in the quarterfinals of the NWSL Playoffs after playing to a 1-1 draw against Seattle Reign FC in Sunday evening’s Decision Day match at Inter&Co Stadium.

The match remained scoreless until the 76th minute, when defender Carson Pickett broke the deadlock with a left-footed half volley at the back post. This marked her fourth goal of the season across all competitions. Pickett scored just eight minutes after entering as a substitute, continuing Orlando’s trend of impactful bench performances. The Pride finished the regular season with eight goals from substitutes, the second-most in the league. Jacqueline Ovalle earned her second assist of the season on the play.

Seattle responded quickly, leveling the match in the 79th minute through defender Jordyn Bugg.

Orlando, the defending 2024 NWSL Champions, concluded the regular season fourth in the standings and enters the playoffs on a five-match unbeaten streak. Head coach Seb Hines guided the Pride to 11 wins this season, tying the second-most in club history after setting the record with 18 victories in 2024.

“We did what we set out to do, and that was to host a home game in the playoffs,” Pride coach Seb Hines said. “Obviously, we would have preferred the win and finish in that third spot, but it was not meant to be.”

The Pride will host Seattle again next weekend in a win-or-go-home quarterfinal matchup. The league is expected to announce time and date details in the coming hours.

Gupta ’25 MD’29: More than ‘just friends’

College friendships are supposed to be easy, but they don’t always stay that way. There’s no situation as awkward and nerve-racking as when you start to wonder if you like your friend as more than just a friend.

There’s not necessarily one moment when you realize it. It’s often a slow shift. You start crafting texts more carefully, mentally replaying small moments and feeling flutters that shouldn’t be there. “I just love hanging out with you” starts feeling more like a confession than a compliment.

College makes this kind of confusion practically inevitable. We live, study, and eat in the same 10-block radius, surrounded by people who feel closer to us than family. We share dorm rooms, toothpaste, therapy updates, playlists, and secrets. We casually say “love you” to our friends and even flirt without realizing it.

The same intimacy that makes college friendships so meaningful can also make them messy. The line between platonic and romantic feels incredibly blurry. And so, naturally, it nags at you. You want to know if you should say something, if this is one of those “life’s too short” moments that people online always encourage strangers to act on.

But choosing the bold move can feel like detonating a bomb, jeopardizing your entire friendship and risking the organic dynamic that you love—even if the feelings are reciprocated. Most of all, you risk rejection and possible humiliation.

And yet, saying nothing doesn’t feel safe either. You end up performing friendship: casual smiles, careful hugs, yet your heart pounds at every accidental brush of the knee. You’re fine with “just friends,” but your stomach drops every time they mention someone new in their life.

So, what should you do?

### Dismantling the Myth: Friendship is Not Lesser Love

The first myth to dismantle is that friendship is the lesser form of love. Romantic relationships are often treated as the pinnacle of intimacy, but think about it: your closest friendships have probably lasted longer than most romantic relationships.

Your friends have seen you at your lowest, ugliest, and most unflattering moments. They’ve witnessed you cry on the kitchen floor, stood in line with you at the dining hall for the fifth time in the same week, and still answered your FaceTime at midnight. That’s not second-best love; that’s the foundation of what it means to love and be loved back.

Sometimes when we crush on a friend, what we’re really developing is a deeper appreciation for someone’s closeness—mistaking that warmth for romantic potential. That’s the complexity of human connection: how affection, gratitude, and desire can overlap until it’s hard to tell them apart.

### Pause and Reflect Before Acting

It’s worth pausing to untangle what kind of love you’re actually feeling before you act on it. Before you confess, ask yourself:

– Do I actually want to date them?
– Or do I just want to be loved by someone who already knows me so well?

If it’s the second one, maybe the answer isn’t a confession. Maybe it’s gratitude. Maybe it’s saying, “You mean a lot to me,” and letting that be enough.

### When You Know It’s Real

But let’s say you’ve decided: This is real. You’ve tried to ignore it, suppress it, joke it away, and it’s not working. In that case, honesty is kinder than emotional gymnastics.

You don’t have to write a love letter or perform a grand gesture. A simple, “I’ve been feeling something more than friendship, and I just wanted to tell you,” is more than enough.

The key is to speak without expectation. You’re offering information, not an ultimatum. “This is how I feel,” instead of “Please feel it back.”

### Respecting Uncertainty

College relationships—romantic or otherwise—work best when they’re built on mutual respect for uncertainty. People are still figuring out who they are, meaning feelings won’t always align. That has to be okay.

If they don’t feel the same way, it will sting. You’ll have to sit with that weird ache when you see them around. But the truth is, most friendships survive that awkwardness. It just takes time and honesty to adjust to new boundaries.

If the friendship is real, it will adapt.

### The Elasticity of Love

Liking a friend doesn’t need to ruin your friendship. Sometimes it changes the relationship, sometimes it deepens it, and sometimes it fades.

But it always teaches you something about the elasticity of love. Love can stretch and reshape itself to fit new boundaries without necessarily breaking. It bends to circumstance, to timing, to what two people can offer each other.

Sometimes it softens into friendship, sometimes it sharpens into longing, sometimes it simply settles into quiet admiration.

Try to focus on what it feels like to love someone—regardless of whether it is platonic or romantic—and to appreciate the courage it takes to name that love, even if it’s unreciprocated.

### Final Thoughts

So yes, liking your friend is messy. But so is growing up. So is love.

If you’re wondering whether to tell them, maybe you already know the answer. The hardest part isn’t saying it—it’s letting yourself recognize it.

Chargers’ Daiyan Henley plays through grief after brother’s shooting death

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley started and played Sunday because football is his escape, and he needed that more than ever after the shooting death of his older brother.

Henley delivered a strong performance with seven tackles, his third sack of the season, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit in the Chargers’ 27-20 win over the Tennessee Titans.

“Right now, I’m just floating and the only thing that’s consistent right now in my life, and this is crazy to say, is football,” Henley said after the game. “So for me, that’s why I’m out there — this is the most consistent thing I’ve got in my life right now, and I’m just trying to make the most of it.”

His older brother, Jabari, was killed Friday night in Los Angeles. Despite this tragic loss, Henley traveled with the Chargers and started the game.

Henley was the Chargers’ third-round pick in 2023 out of Washington State and has started every game since the start of the 2024 season.

His father, record executive Eugene “Big U” Henley, has worked with many prominent West Coast rappers, including Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, and the late Nipsey Hussle. Eugene also helped produce and was featured in the 2021 FX documentary series *Hip Hop Uncovered*.

In addition to his music career, Henley’s father is a former gang leader who was arrested in a drug sting and served 12 years of a 23-year sentence.

After the game, Daiyan Henley posted “Love you big bro” on social media.

It has been a challenging year for Henley, who played through illness in a 20-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in the second game of the season. He said the Chargers organization has supported him throughout, from ownership to coaches.

Henley credited coach Jim Harbaugh for consistently being there for him.

“He’s probably been the first call I’ve gotten for every situation,” Henley said. “He’s been right there telling me to keep my head down, keep grinding, keep working, and try to stay consistent.”
