Spotlight On: Alopecia Justice League

Alison Lee was 5 years old when her hair started falling out. While her classmates bonded over doing each other’s hair, she was struggling with a new diagnosis: alopecia areata. “I didn’t know anyone else with the condition,” says Lee, now 19 years old. “And being stared at was pretty difficult.” About 10 years later, things changed for Lee when her mother took her to an in-person support group for people with alopecia in her hometown of New York City. “It was the first time I’d been in a room with other people with alopecia areata,” says Lee. “Seeing other people who had the condition and being able to speak to others who had similar experiences was incredibly validating. It made me feel really good about myself.” In 2021, when she was a sophomore in high school, Lee channeled those feelings and cofounded the Alopecia Justice League (AJL) with Kristen Lo Sicco, MD (a dermatologist), Lindsey Sullivan (who also has alopecia), and Julie Yoo. The organization raises awareness of alopecia, promotes community among people who have alopecia, and advocates for legislation at both the federal and state levels to expand insurance coverage of hair loss treatments and devices. “We were inspired to cofound the organization because we wanted to unify all the stakeholders in alopecia advocacy and awareness,” says Lee. “We saw this as broader than patients alone, but also their entire support systems parents, dermatologists, medical students, and residents.” The Goal Lee cofounded the AJL to educate others about alopecia areata, including the stigma around baldness, and advocate for insurance coverage for cranial prosthetics (wigs). Although people with alopecia shouldn’t feel obligated to wear wigs, Lee believes they should be affordable. She wore a wig while she was in elementary school something that was “really important for my mental health,” she says but she was surprised to learn that a good wig can cost between $500 and $2,000. “When people think of wigs, they think of a party accessory,” says Lee. “But for people who have alopecia and other hair loss conditions, they’re looking to buy high-quality wigs that are durable and comfortable.” Through the AJL, Lee met people who had to sacrifice basic necessities to afford their wigs something she insists should never happen. Currently, the AJL is advocating for bills that would mandate coverage for high-quality wigs under Medicare. The organization encourages everyone to participate in the cause. “We’re a community of not just alopecia patients, but politicians, dermatologists, medical students, and parents,” says Lee. Services They Provide As part of its commitment to community, the AJL offers a pen pal program, which connects both adults and children with others who have alopecia areata. Children are paired with one of the AJL’s mentors (teens with alopecia), who can help them navigate school, sports, and other social environments. In collaboration with its medical advisory board, the AJL also created a middle school curriculum, called Hair Heroes, that teaches students about the basics of alopecia, the mental impact it can have, and how to support a friend who has alopecia. “Several schools across the country teach the curriculum,” says Lee. Events In 2023, the AJL threw its first virtual Pen Pal Party over Halloween weekend. Members from all over the country signed on while wearing their costumes, giving everyone a chance to connect with the larger community, including their mentors. Members of the AJL also travel to Capitol Hill each year for Hill Day to advocate for bills and legislation that would mandate insurance coverage for cranial prosthetics. Core Belief.

Nigeria: Armed bandits kidnap 52 children from Catholic boarding school

OAN Staff Blake Wolf 1: 15 PM Friday, November 21, 2025 Armed bandits attacked St. Mary’s Catholic boarding school on Friday in the Papiri community of Agwara, Niger State, Nigeria, at around 2 a. m. local time, abducting at least 52 schoolchildren, along with an unspecified number of staff. However, while the majority of reports mention “52” schoolchildren being taken, other sources suggest that even more may have been taken. This occurred despite a prior government warning to boarding schools in the area to close due to heightened threats which the school ignored according to surfacing reports. Meanwhile, the international community has expressed growing outrage over the escalating violence in Nigeria, where Islamic militants have targeted both Protestant and Catholic communities. However, the identities of the most recent attackers are currently unknown, and no organization has publicly taken credit for the raid. “Police tactical units, military components and other security agencies have moved to the scene, combing the forests with a view to rescue the abducted students,” local police wrote in a statement. The school educates students aged 12-17 years old. During the attack, a school security staffer was also “badly shot,” according to the Associated Press, citing a statement released by the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora. Following the attack, the Niger state government released a statement revealing that the “unfortunate incident comes despite prior intelligence” warning of threats, and the governor’s order to temporarily close all boarding schools in the region. “Regrettably, St. Mary’s School proceeded to reopen and resume academic activities without notifying or seeking clearance from the State Government, thereby exposing pupils and the staff to avoidable risk,” stated Abubakar Usam, the secretary to the Niger state government. The kidnappings follow a string of violence and kidnappings in Nigeria, including the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in the nearby Kebbi state on Monday. Analysts say that bandits often target schools and travelers for ransom, which is especially common in northern Nigeria. On Tuesday, rapper and singer Nicki Minaj delivered a four-minute speech at a U. S.-organized event at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, focusing on the escalating violence against Christians in Nigeria. The panel, titled “Combating Religious Violence and the Killing of Christians in Nigeria,” was hosted by U. S. Ambassador Mike Waltz and featured faith leaders and victims. “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed. Churches have been burned. Families have been torn apart and entire communities live in fear constantly, simply because of how they pray,” Manaj stated. “Sadly, this problem is not only a growing problem in Nigeria, but also in so many other countries across the world, and it demands urgent action,” she continued. “And I want to be clear, protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity.” Additionally, at the start of November, President Donald Trump threatened to send the military into Nigeria to “completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists” slaughtering Christians. “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U. S. A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote at the time. “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!” Stay informed! Hornets’ LaMelo Ball calls out report saying he’s ‘frustrated’ and open to trade

LaMelo Ball appeared to dispute a report suggesting that he’s open to being traded out of Charlotte. The Hornets star posted a clown emoji in response to a social media post about a Yahoo Sports report published Thursday evening that said he was “frustrated.” According to the report, Ball is said to be open to a trade, having grown frustrated with the organization and the Hornets’ front office becoming disillusioned with him. The reported turn in the relationship from Ball comes after the Hornets dropped to 4-11 with a loss to the Pacers on Wednesday night, a game Ball sat out the last 4: 32 of regulation. From the team’s perspective, according to the report, they’ve shifted their view on the 24-year-old and his ability to be a key piece to the franchise’s long-term plans, with the Hornets being “increasingly hesitant.” The Hornets, who are also open to trading Ball elsewhere, reportedly seem more willing to build their offensive system around Brandon Miller and rookie Kon Knueppel. One thing that could make moving Ball difficult is his contract, which is slated to pay him $37. 9 million in 2025-26, since he still has more than $130 million coming to him over the next three years of the deal following this season. Ball has played in nine games this season and has dealt with a right ankle injury. He’s averaged 21. 6 points, 9. 6 assists and 6. 9 rebounds this season. Charlotte is 12th in the Eastern Conference ahead of only the Nets, Pacers and Wizards. The Hornets’ only wins this season have come against the Nets, Wizards, Jazz and Bucks.

Michael Bibi makes large donation to Royal Marsden Hospital

Over two years ago, Michael Bibi revealed his cancer diagnosis, and the global music community came together to support his journey. Fortunately, he came out with a positive diagnosis and is now giving back to the institution that helped cure him. When Michael Bibi declared himself cancer-free and returned to the stage, it was an amazing and cathartic experience for the producer and fans alike. His strength and determination shone through, and he used his platform to curate his One Life events, raising money for cancer research and care. Now two years removed from that harrowing ordeal, Bibi continues to recognize the staff and hospital that treated him throughout his cancer journey. In celebration of the two-year mark, he returned to Royal Marsden Hospital and provided a sizeable donation to the hospital. During his visit, he was scanned again and remains cancer-free. He also met with the staff there and delivered a check for nearly £114, 000 to the organization. His continued devotion to the hospital is a beautiful development from what began as a terrifying diagnosis. It is great to see Michael Bibi continue to perform on stages around the world and raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment.

Could Phillies Pivot From Kyle Schwarber To 5-Time All-Star?

The Philadelphia Phillies’ offense could look a bit different next year. That is because of the fact that Kyle Schwarber is a free agent right now after being a key cog in the middle of the Phillies lineup over the last four years. Schwarber earned two All-Star nods in Philadelphia and is coming off a season in which he hit 56 homers and drove in 132 runs, both of which led the National League. Bringing Schwarber back should be a priority and it has been reported over and over again that it is for the organization. But, what if he leaves? MLB. com’s Mark Feinsand listed five teams as “potential suitors” for New York Mets star slugger Pete Alonso. The Phillies cracked Feinsand’s list as a team to watch if they pivot from Schwarber. “Philadelphia’s No. 1 priority appears to be re-signing Kyle Schwarber, but if the National League MVP runner-up signs elsewhere, Alonso could be a target to replace the slugger,” Feinsand wrote. “Signing Alonso would mean either moving Bryce Harper back to right field, or using Alonso and Harper as a first base/DH combo, but adding a big bat should be in the cards for the Phillies if they’re unable to retain Schwarber.” If the Phillies lose Schwarber, there isn’t a better replacement available purely from a power perspective than Alonso. The five-time All-Star has 264 homers over the last seven seasons, including 38 long balls in 2025. The fit with the Phillies isn’t great because first base isn’t open. But Alonso’s agent, Scott Boras, didn’t close the door on the idea of Alonso seeing more time as a designated hitter in his next contract. That’s the only way an idea like this works for the Phillies.

Texans RB Joe Mixon Shares Short Message After Latest Update

The Houston Texans continue to navigate the 2025 season without the services of Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon. The former Cincinnati Bengals star recently weighed in again, this time following the Texans’ narrow 16-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Notably, the Texans were missing not only Mixon but also quarterback C.J. Stroud during the game. While Stroud is expected to return this season—possibly as soon as next week—Mixon’s future with the team remains uncertain.

### Joe Mixon Reacts After Texans’ Win

The Texans needed a late surge and a game-winning field goal to edge out the Titans. Backup quarterback Davis Mills guided the offense down the field during crunch time, stepping up in the absence of Stroud. The Texans’ backfield, however, sorely missed Mixon. Rookie fourth-round pick Woody Marks started at running back, leading the team in touches with 18 carries for 44 yards. Nick Chubb also contributed with three carries for 18 yards.

Despite missing Mixon, the Texans secured the win. Mixon, staying engaged with the team, posted a simple “W” on X (formerly Twitter) on November 16 to acknowledge the victory.

Mixon was expected to be a key component of the Texans’ offense in 2025, serving as a dual threat. He was envisioned as both a safety valve for Stroud in the passing game and a reliable weapon to manage the clock late in close contests. In 2024, Mixon rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns, adding 36 receptions for 309 yards and one receiving touchdown.

### Injury Concerns and Impact on Texans’ Backfield

Mixon’s ongoing absence stems from a complicated foot and ankle injury—a recurring issue that has plagued his career. The Texans are feeling the impact of his absence in their rushing attack.

Although Mixon has remained involved with the team—sharing messages during and after games and appearing at a private event alongside wide receiver Tank Dell—the Texans reportedly do not expect him to return this season.

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported on November 13 that Mixon remains on the non-football injury list with a “tough and complicated” foot and ankle injury. Sources suggest this could sideline him for the entirety of the 2025 campaign.

### Future with the Texans: Uncertain

Mixon is signed with the Texans through the 2026 season on a three-year, $19.7 million contract. However, if his foot issues prevent a full recovery, his tenure with Houston could be in jeopardy.

Jonathan M. Alexander of The Houston Chronicle highlighted the possibility that the Texans might consider moving on from Mixon to save salary cap space. Releasing him could save the Texans approximately $8.5 million for the 2026 season, according to Over the Cap, as none of his 2026 salary is guaranteed.

### Texans GM Nick Caserio’s Update: Still Waiting

Texans General Manager Nick Caserio initially set an estimated timeline of three to four weeks for an update on Mixon’s status back in early October. That timeline has passed with no substantial news.

Speaking to Texans reporters on October 7, Caserio said, “I think, probably over the next few weeks, we’ll probably have a better idea. He’s making progress. So, I wouldn’t put a particular timetable on it. Kind of see how he’s progressing. But taking one day at a time. But I think once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of which way it’s going to go for the duration of the year.”

However, the lack of updates, combined with Mixon’s absence at team activities, has cast a shadow over his status.

Alexander expressed concerns in October, writing, “All of those things would lead me to believe that Mixon has a very serious injury to either his foot or ankle. One league source I spoke to a month ago had doubts about whether he’ll return this season. And those doubts have not changed.”

He continued, “There was a glimmer of hope that his foot would respond to treatment and change the prognosis. Of all the people I’ve spoken with about this, there is no one who has told me they expect him to return this season. And if he was, someone would tell me.”

### Conclusion

As the Texans push forward in the 2025 season, all eyes remain on the status of Joe Mixon. While the team copes without their star running back, the uncertainty surrounding his recovery and future with Houston adds extra intrigue to the remainder of the season. For now, the Texans’ backfield will continue to rely on emerging talent and depth players as they await further updates from their medical and management teams.

Video shows daring helicopter rescue of BASE jumper dangling from Utah canyon

A dramatic rescue unfolded near Moab, Utah, earlier this week when a BASE jumper became stranded on a canyon face after their parachute became stuck during a jump. The intense moment was captured on video by Ashley Corbin and widely shared on social media.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Kane Creek, just outside Moab. The video footage reveals the tense scene as rescuers worked to reach the BASE jumper, whose rainbow parachute was visibly tangled against the rocky cliff. Grand County Emergency Services reported being called to the scene around 1 p.m. It took rescuers until 3:15 p.m. to make initial contact with the unidentified BASE jumper.

According to a Facebook post from the Grand County Sheriff’s Department, the jumper was successfully rescued after receiving “advanced treatment for moderate injuries.” The individual was hoisted from the canyon face to a safe landing zone by 4 p.m.

The nearly 20-minute video shows a first responder being lowered from a helicopter amid whipping winds to assist the stranded jumper. The rescue operation has since been praised for its precision and bravery.

BASE jumping—an extreme sport involving parachuting from fixed objects like cliffs or bridges—is legal on Bureau of Land Management lands surrounding Moab, according to Moab BASE Access, Utah Chapter, a local BASE jumping organization. “BASE jumping is all fun and games until you are smashed up on the talus and need rescue and surgery,” the group noted.

Moab BASE Access expressed their gratitude to search and rescue personnel, including “the four BASE jumpers who serve as [Search and Rescue] team members and participated directly in this rescue.” The organization acknowledged the risks inherent in BASE jumping, stating, “Like mountain biking and climbing, BASE jumping is a high-risk activity. Over the past three years, BASE related incidents have accounted for less than 5% of all SAR (Search and Rescue) calls in Grand County.”

“We appreciate the work SAR does for all user groups who enjoy our public lands, and we’re committed to continuing our positive partnership with them,” Moab BASE Access said.

The Utah Search and Rescue Association notes that each county’s sheriff’s office is responsible for its own search and rescue operations. Grand County EMS addressed the community on Facebook, saying, “While yesterday’s incident gained public attention because it was visible from town, these types of rescues are exactly what we train for and do on a pretty regular basis. It’s a privilege to serve this community alongside such dedicated professionals, and to bring people home safely.”

The Grand County Sheriff’s Department has not yet publicly released the identity of the BASE jumper or responded to requests for further comment.

Doug Christie indicates change is coming to struggling Sacramento Kings

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Sacramento Kings coach Doug Christie indicated that change is coming for the struggling team, describing the path ahead as “bumpy” while emphasizing that the organization is united in its direction.

“Change is hard,” Christie said. “It’s hard. But understand and we understand that we’re not there yet. But we’re about to work at it like crazy. We will totally get there. And it will be bumpy. It will because change is like that. But buckle up. For the real ones, buckle up.”

Christie’s remarks appeared to be a response to reports suggesting the Kings are ready to begin a full rebuild by potentially trading stars such as Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan.

He spoke for about two and a half minutes prior to Tuesday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Christie began by introducing himself as “Douglas Dale Christie,” then delivered his statement before ending it with two sharp smacks on a table using both hands and walking away without taking any questions.

“When I see the hate, the haters, the fakers — all you guys — you keep that energy,” Christie continued. “That’s good. You keep that. And you know who you are because while you’re doing that, we’re gonna be working. And while you’re doing that, we’re gonna be growing. And while you do that, eventually, we’re gonna be coming the Kings Show. Sac proud, know that.”

The Kings entered Tuesday’s game with a 3-7 record. Christie, who played for Sacramento in the early 2000s, is in his first full season as head coach. He took over on an interim basis after serving as an assistant coach when Mike Brown was fired in December and was retained last spring.

“We’re gonna get it right,” Christie said.

Pastrnak scores twice, hits 400-goal milestone as Bruins beat Maple Leafs

BOSTON (AP) — David Pastrnak scored twice to move past 400 career goals and added an assist as the Boston Bruins won their seventh consecutive game, 5-3, over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.

Pavel Zacha, Hampus Lindholm, and Alex Steeves also scored for the Bruins, while Jeremy Swayman made 30 saves. Charlie McAvoy contributed a pair of assists.

For the Maple Leafs, Steven Lorentz scored a short-handed goal. Bobby McMann and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also found the back of the net. Toronto has now lost three games in a row.

Pastrnak’s milestone goal came just 49 seconds into the second period, marking the 400th of his career and giving the Bruins a 4-1 lead. He added a power-play goal at 9:48 of the third period. Pastrnak is now the sixth player to score 400 or more goals wearing a Bruins jersey and sits just one goal shy of fifth-place Rick Middleton on the franchise’s all-time goal-scoring list.

Alex Steeves’ goal was his first as a Bruin after spending four years in the Toronto organization.

High-scoring Toronto forward Auston Matthews did not return for the third period due to a lower-body injury.

In goal for Toronto, Anthony Stolarz started but gave up three first-period goals on 11 shots and was replaced by Dennis Hildeby in the second period, who made 19 saves. The team later announced Stolarz has sustained an upper-body injury.

Morgan Rielly recorded an assist on McMann’s power-play goal with 1:02 remaining in the second period, passing Tomas Kaberle for sixth place on Toronto’s career assist list with 438 assists—second among defensemen.

Up next for the teams:

– Maple Leafs: Return home to face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
– Bruins: Visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.

Marlins president opens up about Sandy Alcantara plan amid trade buzz

The Miami Marlins may have their biggest offseason decision centered around ace pitcher Sandy Alcantara, and team president Peter Bendix has finally addressed the growing speculation.

Appearing on MLB Network’s *MLB Now* during the General Managers Meetings in Las Vegas, Bendix discussed Alcantara’s future amid increasing MLB trade rumors. In a conversation with Brian Kenny, Bendix provided rare clarity on the organization’s current mindset regarding the right-hander.

*MLB Now* shared the exchange on X (formerly known as Twitter), highlighting Bendix’s comments about Alcantara: “What’s the plan for Sandy Alcantara? Marlins President of Baseball Ops Peter Bendix talks about the right hander.”

When Kenny asked about the club’s plan for Alcantara, Bendix praised the 2022 Cy Young winner for his strong second-half resurgence and the leadership he brings both on and off the field.

“You know, Sandy started the season slowly, but really in the second half of the year, we saw the version of him that we know is in there, the version of him that won a Cy Young,” Bendix said. “I’m really optimistic about what version of him is going to show up next year, and he brings so much to the organization on and off the field.”

Pressed on whether the 30-year-old pitcher currently fits within the Marlins’ competitive window, Bendix emphasized the importance of building sustainable, long-term success.

“We’re trying to be as good as possible as soon as possible,” he explained. “We’re building an organization that competes for the playoffs and the World Series year in and year out.”

While Bendix stopped short of confirming Alcantara’s future with the team, his comments reflected a Marlins offseason approach focused on long-term success. The organization appears to be keeping every option open as Miami evaluates its path forward for 2026 and beyond.
