In a shocking incident in Pune, a minor girl was attacked and dragged by four stray dogs. The CCTV footage of the attack has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread concern.

As seen in the video, the girl was playing with a friend near her building when four stray dogs suddenly approached and attacked her. The dogs even dragged her for some distance before two men riding by on bikes arrived and successfully intervened, saving the girl from further harm.

In a bid to defend himself, the man pushed over a nearby bike onto the dogs and tried to scare them away using a flex board. Despite his efforts, he sustained injuries during the attack.

Following this incident, local residents have demanded that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) take swift and effective action to manage and control the stray dog population to prevent such attacks in the future.

Plant mimics smell of ants to lure pollinating flies

For the first time ever, it has been documented that a plant mimics the smell of injured ants to attract flies for pollination. This remarkable mimicry was observed in *Vincetoxicum nakaianum*, a newly described dogbane species native to Japan.

Researchers discovered that the flowers of this plant release a scent almost identical to the odor of ants distressed by spider attacks. This scent effectively lures chloropid flies, which are naturally drawn to the smell in search of an easy meal.

Chloropid flies typically feed on the fluids of injured ants, a behavior known as kleptoparasitism. As these flies visit the flowers seeking food, they inadvertently pollinate the plants by moving from flower to flower.

While ant mimicry has been observed in many invertebrates, this is the first documented case of a plant using such mimicry to attract its pollinators.

A committee constituted under the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has released a report exposing major environmental violations committed by Ashapura Meinchem Ltd., a mining company operating in Rowle village, Ratnagiri. The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Bhavesh Karekar, an engineer-turned-agriculturalist, who accused the company of illegal bauxite mining and causing significant environmental degradation in the area.

Bhavesh Karekar raised serious concerns about the company’s unregulated excavation activities, including:

– Illegal mining operations without the required permissions or No Objection Certificates (NOCs)
– Haphazard mining and crushing activities leading to severe environmental damage

**Jalna: Shivba Sanghatana Leader Suspends Hunger Strike, Urges Boycott of Assembly Election Rallies**

After nine days of an indefinite hunger strike, Shivba Sanghatana leader Manoj Jarange-Patil suspended his protest on Wednesday, responding to heartfelt appeals from hundreds of women supporters. A visibly weak and famished Jarange-Patil accepted a glass of water from a family member and halted his agitation, explaining that it had become difficult to continue, especially after being administered saline since the previous night.

The suspension of the hunger strike was met with joyous cheers and applause from thousands of his supporters, including a significant number of women, gathered at the marquee erected in Jarange-Patil’s native village, Antarvali-Sarati. Many supporters expressed tears of relief as the leader ended his protest.

Following the announcement, Jarange-Patil was lifted onto a chair by two aides. Family members—parents, wife, kids, and other relatives—gathered anxiously around him to check on his health amid slogans chanting “One Maratha, One Lakh Maratha” in the background.

You all go home and sleep peacefully. Always remain united and don’t come under any political pressures. Do what happened in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Don’t be scared of any political leaders now.”

Jarange-Patil urged his supporters not to travel to Jalna, since the agitation is suspended for the time being. He also issued a stern warning to the ruling MahaYuti government against injustice concerning quota rights. He stated that while the Marathas and OBCs stand together, any attempt by the government to deprive them of their rightful claims would be met with a strong response in the upcoming Maharashtra elections.

An aide confirmed that following nine days of abstaining from food and water since September 17, Jarange-Patil is expected to be admitted to a hospital for treatment and to regain his strength.

Donald Trump holds talks with Pakistan’s Prime Minister amid warming ties

President Donald Trump hosted Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for talks at the White House, marking the latest sign of warming relations between the United States and the South Asian nuclear power.

Sharif was among the top officials from eight Arab or Muslim countries who met with Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly this week to discuss strategy on ending the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Ties between the US and Pakistan have improved as Trump’s relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of the Republican president’s closest world leaders during his first term, has become strained. This strain comes amid India’s increased purchases of discounted Russian oil following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

India and Pakistan are neighbors and fierce rivals. Trump has dramatically raised tariffs on India for those oil purchases in an effort to put indirect economic pressure on Moscow. Meanwhile, the US and Pakistan reached a trade agreement in July, expected to allow Washington to help develop Pakistan’s largely untapped oil reserves and lower tariffs for Islamabad.

Sharif arrived at the White House shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday as Trump was signing executive orders and talking with reporters. The meeting between the two leaders was closed to the media, with Pakistan’s delegation leaving the White House at 6:18 p.m.

Sharif has gained favor with Trump since publicly endorsing the American leader for a Nobel Peace Prize for his administration’s efforts this year at reducing tensions between Pakistan and India. India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire in May after US-led talks to end the most serious military confrontation between the nuclear-armed rivals in decades.

Unlike Sharif, Modi has declined to indulge Trump’s attempt to claim credit for brokering the ceasefire. That deal followed weeks of clashes, missile, and drone strikes across their borders. The clashes were triggered by a massacre of tourists that India blames on Pakistan, which denies the charge.

However, Pakistan split with Trump over his decision to carry out US strikes in June on three Iranian nuclear facilities. Pakistan said the attack “constituted a serious violation of international law” as well as undermining the stature of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Recently, Modi was photographed with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during a security summit in Tianjin, northern China. This led to a social media jab from Trump, who wrote: “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”

Despite this, Trump has taken a warmer approach with Modi recently. Last week, he offered hope that trade issues with India could be resolved. “I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!”

Trump hit India with tariffs up to 50 percent last month after imposing an additional 25 percent tariff related to India’s purchases of Russian oil, which helps Moscow fund its war in Ukraine. Trump hosted Modi for White House talks in February.
