Chiefs Break Silence on Status of M.I.A. Free Agent Signing Before Week 8

After news broke of a back injury for Kansas City Chiefs starting cornerback Jaylen Watson in Week 8, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was asked about veteran free agent acquisition Kristian Fulton, who has not seen the field since Week 2. His response suggested that Fulton has simply fallen down the depth chart due to circumstances.

“Well, a couple of things [have prevented him from reentering the starting rotation]. That’s a hard thing for Kristian right now,” Spagnuolo said of Fulton on October 24. “And I think he’s getting there health-wise, but now you’ve lost all the practice time, lost all the reps. Nohl [Williams] has gone in there and done a really nice job. And we’ll see where it goes.”

“I talk to [Fulton], usually, weekly about, ‘Be ready,’ because inevitably in this league, you’re going to need more than two or three and sometimes even four corners,” the long-time Chiefs DC added. “We’re going to need them all. So, at some point we’re going to need him, and he’s working hard at it. It’s just that and especially with where we’re going with practices now we just can’t get that volume of reps for guys. So we’re kind of sticking where we’re at right now.”

After signing a two-year, $20 million contract this spring, Fulton has only been on the field for 17 defensive snaps over the first seven weeks of football. As of now, it seems the Chiefs are comfortable keeping him in that depth role, but things could change if another starter falters or suffers an injury.

### Chiefs Rookie CB Nohl Williams Has Taken Kristian Fulton’s Job Early On in 2025

Fulton was signed to play on the perimeter across from Watson, allowing star DB Trent McDuffie to shift back into his more natural role in the slot. However, the Chiefs doubled down on this area of need by drafting Nohl Williams in late April.

What Spagnuolo basically admitted on Friday, October 24, is that Williams has stolen Fulton’s job as of Week 8.

Week 7 isn’t the best case study for snap counts, since the Chiefs pulled some of their starters toward the tail end of the blowout victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Still, it’s clear that Williams is third on the CB depth chart behind McDuffie and Watson.

KSHB 41 beat reporter Nick Jacobs shared the KC snap counts from October 20, highlighting the leaders in the secondary:

– Safety/nickelback Chamarri Conner – 26 snaps
– Trent McDuffie – 25 snaps
– Jaylen Watson – 25 snaps
– Nohl Williams – 24 snaps
– Safety Bryan Cook – 23 snaps
– Safety Jaden Hicks – 20 snaps
– Utility DB Christian Roland-Wallace – 18 snaps
– Cornerback Joshua Williams – 10 snaps

As you can see, Nohl Williams has decisively taken hold of the role that Fulton was brought in to play. More concerning for Fulton is that he’s not even dressing as the emergency fourth cornerback on the perimeter. That job has fallen to 2022 fourth-rounder Joshua Williams.

### Jaylen Watson Seems on Schedule for Chiefs’ Week 8 Matchup vs. Commanders

As for Watson, the starting cornerback appears to be fine after logging a “limited” practice on Thursday due to his back injury. On Friday, The KC Star’s Pete Sweeney reported that “both [running back Kareem] Hunt and Watson looked normal during warmups in our brief media period.”

Chiefs Digest beat reporter Matt Derrick also noted that “everyone [besides LT Josh Simmons (personal) and RG Trey Smith (back) is] expected to work in some form, [and] that includes CB Jaylen Watson (back).”

As of October 24, it seems Jaylen Watson is on track to play on Monday night in the Chiefs’ matchup against the Washington Commanders.

“We need each other”: Spire co-owner on signing Daniel Suarez for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season

**Spire Motorsports Co-Owner Jeff Dickerson Hopes for a ‘Good Story of Redemption’ with Daniel Suarez Signing**

After months of speculation, Daniel Suarez has officially secured a 2026 seat with Spire Motorsports, driving the No. 7 Ford. The Monterrey native, who was recently released from Trackhouse Racing to make room for 19-year-old prodigy Connor Zilisch, now replaces Justin Haley, whose underwhelming performance this season included just two top-10 finishes in 34 starts.

Suarez has shown stronger results this year with seven top-10s, although he has also recorded nine DNFs, making him the second most crash-prone driver this season. Despite this, Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson is optimistic about the future. He believes next year offers both Suarez and the team a fresh start and an opportunity to prove their doubters wrong.

“It’s just the thing where I think we need each other. I think all of us love a good story of redemption and giving people a platform to prove doubters wrong,” Dickerson shared. He also highlighted Suarez’s near victories this season, noting the driver finished second twice — at Las Vegas and the regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway.

In his five-year tenure with Trackhouse, Suarez made history as the first Mexican-born driver to capture two Cup Series wins, driving the No. 99 car.

**“Wasn’t Looking at Spire Motorsports as an Option”: Daniel Suarez Opens Up on New Signing**

Daniel Suarez spoke candidly about his initial views of Spire Motorsports before joining the team. A two-time Xfinity Series champion, Suarez has competed with top-tier outfits like Joe Gibbs Racing and Trackhouse Racing prior to this move.

Reflecting on Spire’s growth over the past three years, Suarez said, “I mentioned this to Jeff, three years ago I probably wasn’t looking at Spire Motorsports as an option. Right now, I believe that this is the fastest-growing team in NASCAR, and I want to be part of that. I know that they are not even close to being done.”

Spire Motorsports has confirmed that the partnership with Suarez is a long-term commitment. For the upcoming season, the 33-year-old driver will join Michael McDowell and Carson Hocevar, completing the team’s three-car lineup.

**Looking Ahead: Team Dynamics and Driver Performances**

Carson Hocevar, in his sophomore season with Spire, has shown promising speed. He finished sixth in the recent playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, while teammate Michael McDowell earned the Busch Light pole position for the same event.

Though Hocevar has notched two runner-up finishes this year, his aggressive driving style has sparked several controversies. Notably, repeated clashes with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. escalated into a heated feud that nearly became physical.

As Spire Motorsports prepares for the upcoming season with a refreshed roster, all eyes will be on how Suarez adapts to his new environment and whether the team can turn their shared ambitions into tangible success on the track.

PayPal’s crypto partner accidentally minted $300,000,000,000,000 worth of stablecoins, which is more than twice the world’s total GDP

PayPal’s blockchain partner, Paxos, appears to have made a significant maths-related blunder earlier this week by mistakenly minting $300 trillion worth of its stablecoin, PYUSD.

That figure is staggering on its own, but it’s even more remarkable when you consider that it’s more than double the world’s GDP, which is currently estimated to be around $111 trillion based on 2024 figures.

The company addressed the issue with a statement on X, confirming the erroneous minting of coins and describing it as an internal technical error. “There is no security breach,” the post assured. “Customer funds are safe. We have addressed the root cause.”

What exactly caused the error remains unclear. I like to imagine it might have been something as simple as someone dropping a sandwich on their keyboard—because that’s often how my mistakes happen. However, a commenter in the thread speculated that it could have been due to forgetting to account for six decimal places, which is a classic maths slip. Alternatively, it might have been a “fat-finger” error, both figuratively and literally.

What’s perhaps more intriguing is the fact that PYUSD is advertised as a dollar-pegged stablecoin, said to be “fully backed by US dollar deposits, US treasuries, and similar cash equivalents.”

In the case of $300 trillion worth of coins, such backing would be literally impossible. This incident shows that the generation of new coins does not appear to be directly tied to the reserves mentioned, at least under the current system. This has led some experts to suggest that a proof-of-reserve mechanism should be mandatory for stablecoin issuance to maintain trust and transparency.

Money has always been somewhat abstract, but cryptocurrencies feel even more so. Fortunately, in this case, the mistake was quickly corrected—the excess coins were “burned” and thus removed from circulation. PYUSD has maintained its position as the sixth-largest stablecoin in the world.

All’s well that ends well, I suppose. Still, I imagine whoever made this error is having a particularly rough week. My sympathies—these things happen to the best of us!
