HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (AP) — Jalen Speer led Marshall with 26 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists as the Thundering Herd defeated Georgia State 84-80 on Wednesday.

Wyatt Fricks contributed 21 points, shooting 7 for 11 from the field, including 1 for 5 from three-point range, and made 6 of 8 free throws. Fricks also added six rebounds and three blocks to his stat line.

Landen Joseph scored 10 points for Marshall, hitting 4 of 8 shots and 2 of 5 from beyond the arc. The Thundering Herd improved to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

For Georgia State, Trey Scott III led the Panthers with 15 points and two steals. Jelani Hamilton also added 15 points along with five steals, while Micah Tucker chipped in 14 points. The Panthers fell to 4-11 overall and 1-2 in conference.
