**Two Detroit Men Charged in Major Federal Student Aid Fraud Scheme**

Two Detroit men have been charged with defrauding the federal higher education financial aid system, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Jerome Gorgon.

The first complaint charges Brandon Robinson, 41, of Detroit, with wire fraud related to false Federal Student Aid (FSA) claims submitted in the names of other individuals. Between January 2015 and February 2024, Robinson submitted fraudulent FSA claims for more than 1,200 individuals. These claims involved over 100 schools across 24 states.

Robinson’s scheme resulted in the awarding of over $16 million in FSA benefits, with more than $10 million already disbursed. Additionally, the complaint alleges that Robinson filed over 100 fraudulent unemployment insurance (UI) claims between April 2020 and March 2023, causing the disbursement of over $1 million in UI benefits.

Robinson was arrested earlier this week and appeared in federal court this afternoon on the charges. Court documents reveal that Robinson led a years-long scheme to obtain fraudulent Federal Student Aid funds using so-called “straw students” who were enrolled primarily to receive FSA benefits.

The second complaint charges Michelle Hill, 48, also of Detroit, with wire fraud in connection with a separate FSA scheme. Hill was arrested earlier this week and made her initial appearance in federal court.

According to court documents, between July 2015 and July 2025, Hill obtained fraudulent FSA benefits involving more than 80 individuals, mostly enrolled at Wayne County Community College. The complaint alleges that many of these individuals were enrolled in the same or similar degree programs and taking the same or similar online courses.

Furthermore, it is alleged that Hill often completed coursework on behalf of these students to create the appearance that they were progressing toward degrees. This deception served to prolong their eligibility for FSA benefits.

As a result of this elaborate scheme, substantial federal aid funds were fraudulently obtained.

Liam Coen, Robert Saleh exchange words after Jaguars-49ers game

In the days leading up to Sunday’s game between the Jaguars and the 49ers, San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh praised the Jacksonville coaching staff for their ability to legally steal signals. However, Jaguars coach Liam Coen didn’t appreciate the implication behind Saleh’s comments.

After the game, Coen had some strong words for Saleh. Fortunately, he was steered away from what could have escalated into a much worse situation, especially if things had turned physical.

During his post-game press conference, Coen tried to downplay the incident, stating that he would “keep the exchange between us.” Meanwhile, Saleh was reportedly only intending the comment as a compliment, not as an accusation.

Despite Saleh’s intentions, Coen—who is known in some circles for having a short fuse—did not take it that way. Looking ahead, when Saleh next speaks to reporters, expect him to reiterate that his comment was meant as a compliment, not a suggestion that the Jaguars were breaking any rules.

Saleh is also likely to acknowledge that he should have chosen his words more carefully to avoid any connotation of cheating.

Trump confident ahead of Monday showdown, says Dems’ position makes shutdown likely

Washington — President Trump said Sunday that a government shutdown is likely unless top Democrats back down from their negotiating position.

“I just don’t know how we are going to solve this issue,” Mr. Trump said in a phone interview with CBS News.

Mr. Trump also expressed confidence that the American people will side with him if government funding expires in the coming days. He believes Democrats will pay a political price for not working with him, on his terms, to further cut spending.

“They’re not interested in fraud, waste and abuse,” Mr. Trump said of the Democrats.

The president is scheduled to meet Monday with congressional leaders ahead of the Oct. 1 deadline for lawmakers to reach an agreement on a spending bill that would avert a shutdown.

A source close to Mr. Trump told CBS News that the president privately welcomes the prospect of a shutdown because it will enable him to wield executive power to slash some government programs and salaries.

Last week, the White House Office of Management and Budget sent a memo to federal agencies instructing them to prepare layoff plans if there is a government shutdown. The memo, obtained by CBS News, directs agencies to consider reduction-in-force (RIF) notices—a federal term for layoffs—for employees in programs, projects, or activities with discretionary funding that stops on Oct. 1 or that lack alternative funding sources.

The memo further states that employees should receive RIF notices if they work in programs or projects “not consistent with the President’s priorities.”

In the interview Sunday, Mr. Trump criticized the Democrats’ current demands, which in recent weeks have focused on extending Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies, calling them ill-advised.

Instead, Mr. Trump said, if the Democrats want to discuss health care, they should work with him to prevent undocumented migrants from accessing public benefits.

“The Democrats, incredibly, want to keep their old policies of open borders and we’re not going to have it. We’re not going to allow it,” Mr. Trump said.

He added that any possible health-care negotiations must address immigration and border-related matters; otherwise, “It’s just not acceptable for us.”

Democrats have forcefully pushed back against Mr. Trump’s characterization of their positions on both government funding and immigration. They emphasize that people who are in the U.S. illegally are not eligible to receive Medicaid coverage.

“Donald Trump knows, or at least I think he knows, that current federal law prohibits using taxpayer dollars for undocumented immigrants in connection with their health care. And no one is trying to change or reverse that law,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told MSNBC on Saturday.

“What we are doing is fighting to protect the healthcare of everyday Americans in the midst of this Republican-caused crisis that is devastating hospitals and nursing homes and community-based health clinics,” Jeffries added.

Mr. Trump is scheduled to meet Monday with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Jeffries. The meeting comes after the president canceled an initial session last week, citing the Democrats’ “unserious and ridiculous” demands.

Earlier this month, the House approved a GOP-led continuing resolution to keep the government funded until Nov. 21. However, Democrats put forward their own proposal to keep the government funded until Oct. 31, including other party priorities such as their health-care request.

In the Senate, where 60 votes are needed to advance most legislation, both the House-passed bill and the Democrats’ proposal fell short.

The Democrats’ proposal includes a permanent extension of enhanced tax credits for Americans purchasing health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace, which Democrats have described as a red line for their support.

The proposal would also roll back cuts to Medicaid in Mr. Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill and restore funding for public broadcasters that was rescinded earlier this year.

The Senate is returning to Washington on Monday after a weeklong recess and will have little time to act to avert a shutdown.

Echoing Mr. Trump, Senate Majority Leader John Thune told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it’s “totally up to the Democrats” whether the government shuts down, noting “there is a bill sitting at the desk in the Senate right now” that the House passed to keep the government open.

“This decision, in my judgment at this point in time, is up to a handful of Democrats,” Thune said. “We need eight Democrats to pass it through the Senate.”

Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, told “Face the Nation” Sunday that “Democrats are united in pushing” on the health-care issue and expressed optimism about the upcoming meeting.

“This is an opportunity for the country because of one big problem, and that is that the Republicans have created a health care crisis,” Klobuchar said. “My constituents, Americans, are standing on a cliff right now with these insurance premium increases that are upon them.”

Jacob Chansley, the Arizona man widely recognized as the “QAnon Shaman” for his horned warrior attire during the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, has filed a sweeping lawsuit demanding $40 trillion in damages — while declaring himself the rightful leader of the United States, RadarOnline.com can report.

The Phoenix resident submitted a 26-page complaint in Maricopa County Superior Court earlier this week. The document, written as a single paragraph resembling a manifesto, names an eclectic mix of defendants ranging from President Donald Trump to international institutions, major corporations, and even Hollywood studios. Chansley is representing himself in the case.

### The Lawsuit

Among the listed defendants are Donald Trump, the Federal Reserve, the National Security Agency (NSA), the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Bank of International Settlements, the state of Israel, Elon Musk’s X Corp., T-Mobile, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and Warner Bros. Studios.

Chansley claims these entities are part of a conspiracy to systematically violate Americans’ constitutional rights. While the case was filed in state court, its federal claims suggest it may be transferred to the U.S. District Court.

Attempts by the *Phoenix New Times* to contact Chansley via phone and the email listed on his filing were unsuccessful.

### Extraordinary Allegations

The lawsuit levels a series of far-fetched accusations. Chansley asserts that the U.S. central banking system is unconstitutional and that the government has committed treason by prioritizing foreign financiers. He claims the NSA spied on him while he drafted what he calls a “2nd Declaration of Independence.”

He further alleges that “all radio stations and most of their DJs are a part of the intelligence community.” Chansley also claims plot details from Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight* and James Cameron’s *Avatar* were stolen from his own writings.

In a bizarre twist, Chansley contends the NSA catfished him on Facebook by impersonating actress Michelle Rodriguez, whom he describes as “my celebrity crush.” According to the filing, he was then “offered the opportunity to work with NASA covertly and help them deal with other-worldly matters” based on his “shamanic beliefs.”

### Targeting Trump

The complaint states that Trump emailed him on Jan. 8, 2021, from the address “donaldtrump@nsa.gov,” and that the government seized over $100,000 in cryptocurrency from him.

“These seemingly insignificant facts are designed to seem insignificant on their face,” Chansley wrote, “but if a person were in the loop of what I had written on my computer a few months prior, those details would stand out to a sharp mind.”

Chansley refers to more than 1,000 exhibits stored in a Google Drive folder to support his claims, though the folder was inaccessible when reporters attempted to view it.

### Broader Critiques and Grandiose Declarations

Amid the outlandish accusations, Chansley also voices broader criticisms of American governance. He argued that citizens’ Fifth Amendment rights were violated when an Israeli official accused of attempting to solicit sex from a minor in Nevada was allowed to return home.

He also condemned U.S. involvement in protracted wars. “When we also recall that the Vietnam War was proven to be entered into based on false pretense, then it’s no surprise that the same government is continuing multiple deadly wars for profit, and even allowing foreign leaders to dictate American foreign policy in the Middle East and eastern European nations,” he wrote.

Chansley concludes his filing by declaring himself president of what he calls the “New Constitutional Republic of the United States.” He states the only laws in this republic are the Bill of Rights and the original U.S. Constitution, and that Phoenix will serve as its capital.

As his first act, Chansley says he would direct the Federal Reserve to mint a one-ounce gold coin valued at $40 trillion to eliminate national debt — a proposal that misunderstands how debt and currency function.

Virar–Dahanu Rail Quadrupling Nears Completion; Seven Potential New Stations Proposed

Seven potential new stations have been identified along the Virar–Dahanu section. These include Wadhiv, Sartodi, Makunsar, Chintupada, Panchali, Wanjarwada, and BSES Colony. It is important to note that these proposed stations are not part of the ongoing quadrupling project. **Current Passenger Traffic**

Currently, there are only nine stations between Virar and Dahanu Road — including Vaitarna, Saphale, Kelve Road, Palghar, Umroli, Boisar, and Vangaon. Passenger traffic along this route is already significant. Virar handles more than 5.8 lakh commuters daily, while Dahanu Road sees over 2.6 lakh. Even smaller stations like Vaitarna and Boisar experience consistently high footfall, reflecting the corridor’s importance for daily commuters.

**Progress of the Quadrupling Project**

The ambitious Rs 3,578 crore Virar–Dahanu Road quadrilateral rail corridor project has reached a significant milestone, with 86% of the earthwork — including cutting and filling — now completed, according to officials from the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC). This corridor is a key component of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) Phase III and is set to transform suburban rail connectivity in the far northern suburbs. The project aims to reduce congestion and enhance the commuter experience between Virar and Dahanu.

So far, over 23.5 lakh cubic metres of earthwork filling and 2.18 lakh cubic metres of cutting have been successfully executed. The scale of civil engineering efforts underscores the corridor’s strategic importance in expanding Mumbai’s suburban rail network.

**Infrastructure Developments Along the Corridor**

Several bridges and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) were planned under the project, most of which have now been structurally completed. These include key crossings and waterway structures essential for uninterrupted rail traffic.

At Virar and Vaitarna, construction of RPF/GRP and RRI buildings, substations, gang tool rooms, and water tanks has been completed. Currently, deck and station building works are underway.

At Palghar, Saphale, Kelve Road, Boisar, Vangaon, Umroli, and Dahanu Road, the construction of new station buildings, foot over bridges (FOBs), connecting overpasses (COPs), staff quarters, relay huts, and operational control buildings is at an advanced stage. Finishing works are nearing completion at Umroli, Boisar, and Vangaon.

Signalling and telecom-related activities, including cable laying and other outdoor works, are progressing steadily across all locations.

**Expected Benefits**

Once operational, the upgraded corridor is expected to significantly increase the frequency and capacity of suburban services on the Western Railway line. This will ease the burden on existing infrastructure and improve daily commute times for thousands of passengers, contributing to a smoother and more efficient travel experience.

**Project Completion Timeline**

The quadrupling of the Virar–Dahanu Road section is a key element of a long-term strategy to strengthen suburban rail connectivity across Mumbai’s extended metropolitan region. Despite challenges related to land acquisition and forest clearances, the project is moving forward steadily.

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) remains fully committed to completing the project by the end of the Financial Year 2026–27, barring unforeseen circumstances such as legal, environmental, or force majeure issues beyond control, according to an official.
