Trump suggests US will buy Argentinian beef to bring down prices for American consumers

**President Trump Considers Importing Argentinian Beef to Lower U.S. Prices**

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Donald Trump announced Sunday that the United States could purchase beef from Argentina as a strategy to reduce beef prices for American consumers.

“We would buy some beef from Argentina,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One during a flight from Florida to Washington. “If we do that, that will bring our beef prices down.”

Trump made this statement amid efforts to tackle inflation, promising earlier in the week that he would address the issue of high beef prices. U.S. beef costs have remained stubbornly high due to several factors, including drought conditions and a reduction in imports from Mexico. The decline in Mexican beef imports is partly attributable to a flesh-eating pest affecting cattle herds there.

In addition to these measures, President Trump has been working to support Argentina’s struggling currency. This includes facilitating a $20 billion credit swap line and securing additional financing from sovereign funds and the private sector. These efforts come ahead of midterm elections for his close ally, Argentine President Javier Milei.

Larkin and Finne each score twice, lift surging Red Wings to a 4-2 win over Oilers

DETROIT (AP) — Dylan Larkin and rookie Emmitt Finne each scored twice to help the surging Detroit Red Wings beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Sunday.

Detroit has now won five straight games after opening the season with a 5-1 loss to Montreal. Meanwhile, Edmonton has a losing record following their third consecutive defeat. Superstar Connor McDavid extended his career-long, season-opening goal drought to six games.

Detroit’s John Gibson made 16 saves, including a key stop denying McDavid midway through the third period. On the same shift, Larkin poked the puck away from the three-time NHL MVP, preventing another potential scoring opportunity for the Oilers. Edmonton’s Stuart Skinner finished with 21 saves.

Late in the game, Leon Draisaitl was all alone with a chance to tie the score for Edmonton but lost control of the puck. Shortly thereafter, Finne scored an empty-net goal to seal the victory for Detroit.

Finne, a 2023 seventh-round pick, opened the scoring midway through the second period to put Detroit ahead 2-0. Larkin had broken the scoreless tie just minutes earlier in the period.

Larkin, who has recorded a point in all six games this season, restored Detroit’s two-goal lead late in the third period after Edmonton’s Noah Philp had pulled the Oilers within one. The Red Wings’ captain is now the third player in franchise history to have multiple season-opening point streaks of six or more games, joining Hall of Famers Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman.

This strong start is a much-needed boost for Detroit, which extended its franchise-record postseason drought to nine years last spring.

For the Oilers, this marks their first game without earning a point against Detroit in eight matchups, ending their longest active winning streak against any NHL opponent. The team is also coming off back-to-back losses in last season’s Stanley Cup Final.

Raiders’ Maxx Crosby leaves game after low block by Chiefs’ Noah Gray

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby left late in the first half of their game against Kansas City after being blocked low by Chiefs tight end Noah Gray. The hit sent the four-time Pro Bowl defensive end limping off the field.

Crosby, who already has four sacks this season, had been limited in practice this week due to a back injury. He entered the game against the AFC West rival Chiefs leading the league with 10 tackles for loss.

The Raiders were also playing without All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers, who had been doubtful with a knee injury, and wide receiver Jacobi Meyers, who had been questionable with knee and toe injuries. Both were inactive against Kansas City.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs, missing left tackle Josh Simmons for a second straight game due to personal issues, faced further depletion along the offensive line. Right guard Trey Smith left in the first half with a back injury, which forced Mike Caliendo—who played much of last season because of injuries—into the lineup against the Raiders.

Leverkusen says US forward Tillman will miss 2 more weeks with thigh injury

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) – Bayer Leverkusen forward Malik Tillman will be sidelined for another two weeks after sustaining a thigh injury during international duty with the United States.

The Bundesliga club announced on Sunday that examinations conducted in Leverkusen have clarified the full extent of Tillman’s injury and the expected recovery period.

The 23-year-old suffered a cramp in his thigh while training with the U.S. team last Monday. This injury forced him to miss the national team’s friendly victory over Australia, as well as Leverkusen’s 4-3 away win against Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

“Hope that it’s not a big issue,” American coach Mauricio Pochettino had said regarding Tillman’s condition.

Noah Cates’ overtime goal lifts Flyers to 2-1 win over Wild

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Noah Cates scored 2:36 into overtime to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to their second win of the season, a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.

Dan Vladar stopped 15 shots and holds the only two wins for the Flyers in net through five games this season. He continues to distance himself from Samuel Ersson in the fight for the No. 1 goaltender spot.

The Flyers came out fired up from the opening faceoff in the third game of a four-game homestand. Flyers forward Nicolas Deslauriers engaged in an early-game brawl with fellow forward Marcus Foligno, which energized the crowd. Deslauriers, with a reddened and cut right cheek, threw his head back and waved his arms toward the crowd as he skated toward the penalty box.

Cates sealed the win by beating Jesper Wallstedt in the waning moments of overtime, sending a thinned-out crowd home happy.

Vladimir Tarasenko gave the Wild a 1-0 lead early in the second period by beating Vladar. Minnesota had just three shots on goal in the first period, coming off a 5-1 loss in Washington the night before.

Owen Tippett tied the game 1-1 early in the third period when he backhanded the puck from behind the net. The puck caromed off the back of Wallstedt’s left goalie pad and into the net. Wallstedt finished the night with 19 saves.

The Flyers needed a lucky bounce on Tippett’s third goal of the season to secure the win after starting with just one victory in their first four games under first-year coach Rick Tocchet.

Panarin has goal, 3 assists as Rangers beat Canadiens 4-3 and improve to 3-0-1 on the road

MONTREAL (AP) — Artemi Panarin had a goal and three assists as the New York Rangers rallied to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on Saturday night.

Mika Zibanejad contributed a goal and an assist, J.T. Miller also scored, and Matthew Robertson notched his first NHL goal for the Rangers. Adam Fox recorded two assists, while Jonathan Quick finished with 21 saves, helping New York improve to 3-0-1 on the road this season.

The Canadiens started strong with Juraj Slafkovsky and Nick Suzuki scoring within the first 3:42 of the game. Noah Dobson added a goal midway through the third period after the Rangers had taken a two-goal lead. Sam Montembeault made 18 saves as Montreal’s four-game winning streak came to an end.

Zibanejad got the Rangers on the scoreboard with a power-play goal with 8:04 remaining in the opening period. New York then scored three times in the first 5:51 of the third to take a 4-2 lead. Miller tied the game just 34 seconds into the period, and Robertson put the Rangers ahead for good at 4:11 into the period in only his sixth career game. Panarin extended the lead to two goals 1:40 later.

Montreal recalled Owen Beck on an emergency basis before the game, and fellow center Joe Veleno made his season debut following injury announcements earlier in the day regarding Kaiden Guhle, Patrik Laine, and Kirby Dach.

Panarin now has 33 points (eight goals, 25 assists) in 24 career games against the Canadiens.
