Eagles-Vikings Week 7 inactives, with analysis

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their second straight loss in Week 6 and were without a few of their most important players in that game, including interior defensive lineman Jalen Carter, left guard Landon Dickerson, and cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. Fortunately for the Eagles, they have a mini-bye heading into their Week 7 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, giving them a little extra time to heal up.

The Vikings are coming off their “real” bye week after playing two straight games in Europe. Despite battling injuries all season long, the Vikings are getting a number of key players back just in time for the Eagles’ visit to Minnesota.

### Eagles and Vikings Inactives & Updates

– **Sam Howell** will serve as the emergency quarterback for the Eagles.
– The Eagles have called up **E.J. Jenkins** from the practice squad.
– **Jalen Carter** and **Landon Dickerson** are both expected to play in Week 7.

#### Eagles Inactives and Notes:
– **TE Grant Calcaterra:** Calcaterra injured his oblique muscle against the Broncos and did not return. Kylen Granson filled in as the TE2 after Calcaterra left, and Cameron Latu has also been seeing snaps.
– **iOL Drew Kendall:** With Landon Dickerson back in the lineup, Brett Toth has returned to a backup role, and Kendall remains inactive.
– **CB Mac McWilliams:** McWilliams has been active on some game days this season but has yet to see meaningful action on defense or special teams.
– **RB A.J. Dillon:** Dillon muffed a kickoff and fumbled during the Eagles’ loss to the Giants. In his place, Xavier Gipson is active and is expected to return kicks along with Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby. Gipson might also return punts instead of Jahan Dotson.

### Notable Eagles Players on IR, PUP, Suspension, etc.

– **EDGE Nolan Smith (IR, triceps):** Smith had a slow start in 2024 but showed promise after the Week 5 bye, accumulating 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in the final 15 games. He tore his triceps in the Super Bowl and entered 2025 as the team’s leading edge rusher. However, after tweaking his triceps injury early this season, Smith will miss at least four weeks on injured reserve.

– **CB Jakorian Bennett (IR, pectoral):** The Eagles acquired Bennett via trade in early August as a response to early struggles from corners Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo.

– **WR Johnny Wilson (IR, knee, ankle):** Wilson stands 6’6” and 228 lbs and has carved out a role as a physical blocker in his rookie season. Though not a major receiving threat—catching only 5 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown—he played over 400 snaps and started four games before going on IR.

– **WR Darius Cooper (IR, shoulder):** An undrafted rookie, Cooper made the 53-man roster after impressive training camp and preseason performances. He was beginning to carve out a “dirty work” receiver role following Wilson’s injury.

– **FB Ben VanSumeren (IR, knee):** VanSumeren was set to take on a bigger role as the full-time fullback in 2025 but suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury on the opening kickoff.

– **LS Charley Hughlett (IR):** Hughlett is known for his unique snap style, throwing the ball through his legs. The Eagles have signed Cal Adomitis to take over long snapping duties in his absence.

### Vikings Inactives & Updates

– **Inactives:** Andrew Van Ginkel, Kobe King, Chaz Chambliss, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, J.J. McCarthy (emergency third quarterback).
– The biggest news is that **RT Brian O’Neill** will play in Week 7.

### Notable Vikings Players on IR, PUP, Suspension, etc.

– **LB Blake Cashman:** Cashman has been on IR since Week 1 due to a hamstring injury suffered against the Bears. He missed the next four games but was activated for his 21-day practice window this week. In 2024, he tallied 112 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 11 QB hits, and 8 pass breakups, making him one of the Vikings’ defensive leaders.

– **C Ryan Kelly:** Kelly, the Vikings’ starting center, is currently sidelined with a concussion. Michael Jurgens started in his place but got hurt (hamstring) in Week 4, leading to Jake Brandel stepping in.

– **RB Aaron Jones:** Jones suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Falcons. Jordan Mason has taken over as the lead back and has performed well, compiling 69 carries for 363 yards (4.7 YPC) and 3 touchdowns.

The Week 7 matchup between the Eagles and Vikings features two teams managing injuries but striving to get key players back on the field. With the Eagles benefiting from their mini-bye and the Vikings returning from a full bye, this game will test both teams’ depth and resilience.
