Musk intends to improve X’s posts timeline and switch ad recommendations to Grok

Billionaire Elon Musk has announced plans to improve X’s timeline, promising that users will regularly experience better content recommendations and overall improvements. The platform will soon move its ad recommendations onto the same AI system currently used to optimize organic posts based on users’ interests.

Earlier this month, during an X Spaces session, Musk hinted at his ambition to transform X into the world’s leading advertising platform. He introduced Grok, an AI system he described as the “smartest in the world” based on benchmark scores. Despite this optimism, X’s organic posts have stagnated at pre-acquisition levels.

In a recent Sunday post on X, Musk confirmed the ongoing timeline enhancements: “You should notice rapid improvements in the quality of your timeline almost every week, but there will be two steps forward and one step back at times. We are also switching advertising recommendations to use the same Grok/AI system as organic posts, so the quality of ads will get radically better.”

Musk considers Grok a significant upgrade from Twitter’s previous, somewhat random ad targeting methods. However, since Musk’s acquisition, concerns over brand safety have played a major role in advertisers’ departure, triggered by looser ad placement policies and public disputes with critics. Although some advertisers returned after the 2024 election, advertising revenue still falls short compared to pre-acquisition figures.

X recorded approximately 100 million original posts per day in 2023, and current activity remains near that level, indicating some stagnation. Still, Musk is hopeful that smarter AI-driven targeting combined with safer ad placements will boost the platform’s appeal.

Previously, Musk revealed plans to launch a system that scans posts, replies, quotes, and reposts to predict each user’s interests. This initiative aims to help lesser-known creators whose high-quality content often goes unnoticed. By leveraging AI, Musk promises to bring worthy content to the surface regardless of follower counts.

Users will be able to customize their feed preferences with Grok at any time—whether for a temporary tweak or a permanent change. Ideally, this system will surface posts from smaller creators to relevant audiences, thereby enhancing overall engagement. However, those who prefer a hand-picked, chronological timeline might not notice much difference.

X has already taken steps to improve ad quality by restricting emoji use and banning hashtags in ads. The platform also introduced an “aesthetic score” to lower costs for well-designed creatives. Critics, however, have questioned this score, suggesting it may reflect Musk’s personal tastes more than objective metrics.

**AI Transforms Ads and Monetization on X**

X is rolling out AI-powered Dynamic Product Ads that showcase products tailored to individual users. Musk also plans to integrate ads into Grok chatbot responses based on user queries. In the future, advertising campaigns may be fully managed by Grok after advertisers upload their creative assets.

By deploying Grok’s AI, X aims to deliver hyper-targeted campaigns to advertisers while providing smaller creators with access to specialized audiences. This shift has the potential to revolutionize engagement and monetization across the platform.

Tesla board to shareholders: Pay Musk or else

**Tesla Faces Critical Vote on Elon Musk’s $878 Billion Pay Package**

**LOS ANGELES, Nov 5 (Reuters)** – Tesla’s board of directors has placed its biggest bet on CEO Elon Musk, asking shareholders to back an unprecedented compensation package that could see Musk receive up to $878 billion in company stock. The pivotal vote will take place on Thursday, giving investors a stark choice: approve the massive pay deal or risk Musk’s departure, which could potentially send Tesla’s stock tumbling.

The board asserts that only Musk can deliver on ambitious promises to transform Tesla into an artificial intelligence powerhouse, rolling out millions of self-driving robotaxis and humanoid robots. If he meets all performance targets within a decade, Tesla’s market value could soar to $8.5 trillion, with Musk owning roughly 25% of its shares. Even if he achieves only some of the outlined goals, Musk stands to collect record-breaking payouts amounting to tens of billions of dollars.

Despite the eye-watering sums involved, many investors remain focused on the potential for massive returns. “If the stock is going to go up sixfold and that’s a requirement here, then I’m going to make a lot of money,” said Nancy Tengler, CEO and chief investment officer of Laffer Tengler Investments, a Tesla investor. “Why do I care what kind of money he makes if he’s effecting the change and the vision?”

However, some major shareholders and executive compensation experts are sounding alarms, warning of the risks associated with staking Tesla’s future on a single leader. They caution that such concentrated power and wealth could leave the company vulnerable.

The upcoming vote is being seen as a test of whether traditional corporate governance standards apply to Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, or if Tesla’s extraordinary ambitions justify extraordinary measures.

Musk unveils X Chat, a messenger with encryption ‘similar to Bitcoin’

Tech entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk is set to launch a standalone messaging app called **“X Chat”** to compete with popular platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp. The rollout is expected within the next few months.

During an appearance on *The Joe Rogan Experience* podcast, which aired on Friday, Musk revealed, “On X, we just rebuilt the entire messaging stack into what’s called ‘X Chat.’ It’s using a peer-to-peer-based encryption system, kind of similar to Bitcoin. It’s very good encryption; we’re testing it thoroughly.”

Musk hopes the new messaging app will be released in a “few months.” He emphasized that X Chat won’t have any “hooks for advertising,” unlike competitors such as WhatsApp. “WhatsApp knows enough about what you’re texting to know what ads to show you,” he explained. “But then, that’s a massive security vulnerability because if it knows enough information to show you ads, that’s a lot of information.” Musk added that these same “hooks” could potentially be exploited by hackers to read private messages.

### Does WhatsApp Read Your Messages?

WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, claims it does **not** have access to private messages. According to their FAQ, messages between users are end-to-end encrypted using the Signal Protocol. This encryption extends to voice messages, media, and documents.

However, certain “metadata” — such as who you chat with and how frequently — is not encrypted. Additionally, WhatsApp does **not** automatically encrypt backup copies of chat history.

When asked, “Does WhatsApp collect or sell your data?”, WhatsApp’s FAQ provides a careful response:
“We work with other Meta Companies to help provide, improve, and support each other’s services. If you choose to integrate your WhatsApp experience with other Meta products, we will share some information with Meta to make this possible.”

### X Chat Promises Enhanced Privacy Without Advertising Hooks

Elon Musk assures that X Chat will not include these advertising “hooks.” “I’m not saying it’s perfect, but our goal with X Chat is to replace what used to be the Twitter DM stack with a fully encrypted system where you can text, send files, do audio and video calls,” he said. “I think it will be the least insecure of any messaging system.”

X Chat will be available both as part of the X platform and as its own standalone app, offering users a privacy-focused alternative in the crowded messaging app market.
