New England wide receiver Kayshon Boutte exited Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons in the second quarter after reportedly pulling his hamstring. The Patriots ruled him out early in the third quarter, ending what was shaping up to be a promising performance.
His absence quickly sent fans on X into a frenzy. One fan lamented, “This is horrible.” Another expressed frustration, writing, “NOOOOOO WHAT THE FUCK.”
“Hamstring injury for Boutte? Pats WR corps just took a dump. Rough blow, hope he bounces back strong!” added another fan. More reactions poured in:
– “Not good, prayers up Boutte,” one fan commented.
– “Who would have thought no Kayshon Boutte would hurt the Patriots offense this much?” said another.
– “Crazy, Kayshon Boutte gets ruled out and now the offense at a standstill??” tweeted yet another.
Before the injury, Boutte had established himself as one of Drake Maye’s most reliable weapons. Entering Week 9, he had recorded 23 receptions for 431 yards and five touchdowns across eight games. Unfortunately, Boutte did not record a catch before leaving the game. When he was declared out, New England was leading Atlanta 21-14.
With Boutte sidelined, DeMario Douglas and Kyle Williams took on a heavier snap count to fill the void. Douglas stepped up significantly, becoming Maye’s top option. By the time New England confirmed Boutte would not return, Douglas had caught four passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Highlights included a 16-yard scoring reception in the opening quarter and a 58-yard catch that set up an 11-yard touchdown pass from Maye to Stefon Diggs.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel spoke about Boutte’s development on October 20, crediting his improved communication and maturity for his breakout season.
“I think he communicates better,” Vrabel told reporters. “I just think he’s a better communicator, whether that’s anything that he has to deal with outside of work or outside of football, family, or just talking in the building. I think that’s improved.”
Boutte faced long odds to earn his role after an offseason filled with speculation about his roster status. He competed against veterans such as Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, and Mack Hollins, as well as rookie Kyle Williams. Despite the challenges, Boutte had solidified his place on the team—until the unfortunate injury on Sunday.
Patriots fans will be hoping for a swift recovery as New England looks to maintain offensive momentum moving forward.
