This past weekend, the BGSU swim and dive (8-0, 2-0) team traveled east to Cleveland to compete for the Mangus Cup Invitational at Busbey Natatorium, finding themselves in third place. The meet ran for three days from Thursday to Saturday and included schools such as Northern Colorado, Binghamton, Cleveland State, John Carroll, Le Moyne, St. Bonaventure, and Xavier. Thursday The first day of the meet, the Falcons had a strong start to the day with women’s dive during the A-final. Senior Natalia Mayorga placed first in the women’s one-meter dive with a score of 287. 05. This score is one of Mayorga’s strongest dives of the season so far. Senior Evie Long found herself in first place during the B-final for the one-meter dive, obtaining a score of 226. 00. This success will continue later during the evening finals. Senior Emily McNicol took second place in the 50 back during the A-final, finding a new personal best at 25. 01. During the C-final, Sophomore Annie Berrow won the 50 back at 27. 22, which is a season best for Berrow. This momentum continued during the 50-meter breaststroke. Freshman Lauren Jablonski finished second at 28. 69 in the A-final, finding a new season best during this event. During the 200 IM, senior Madison Bond found herself in second place in the A-final at 2: 05. 31, and senior Grace Bodrock took first place in the B-final at 2: 05. 57. By the end of the first day of the meeting, Bowling Green sat in fourth place in the women’s standings with 256 points. Friday The Falcons found themselves broadening their scores the next day in almost all events of the day. Mayorga once again obtained points for the team while diving off the 3-meter board. She found herself runner-up during the A-final at a score of 292. 00. McNicol shone through for Bowling Green during the second day of the meet with her win in the 100 back, with her time at 53. 36. This has been one of the meet’s top performances so far. The time is ranked among the fastest of the program, surpassing the No. 3 standard of 54. 35. The success for McNicol doesn’t just stop at the 100 back. Her opening start of the 200 medley relay had the Falcons finishing in third place with the help of Jablonski, sophomore Karina Solera, and sophomore Samia Becdach with a time of 1: 41. 32. During the 100 breaststroke, Jablonski would finish in third place, securing 20 points for Bowling Green with a time of 1: 02. 55. Bond would find herself in fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4: 26. 29, which would be one of the team’s stronger mid-distance times of the night. Entering Saturday and the final day of the meet, BG moved up on the scoreboard and now sits in third place. Saturday The Falcons started the day with a prominent performance on the scoreboards. Both the A-team and the B-team placed high, with the A-team securing first place with 288. 90 points and the B-team in second at 265. 70. These scores would help Bowling Green keep a prominent diving record throughout the meet. Becdach started the 100 IM, finishing in fourth place with a time of 57. 00, which is now a personal best and a qualifier for the CSCAA NIC A cut. Berrow would reach a personal best of 25. 73 during the 50 butterfly stroke, finding a place in 13th overall. During the 200 backstroke, McNicol would find yet another win this weekend with a time of 2: 00. 15. Junior Alexandra Johnson would place ninth at 2: 05. 51. Moving to the 200 breaststroke, Jablonski would swim her way to seventh place at 2: 21. 17. Bond would find herself in 16th at 2: 24. 61 in the B-final. Bodrock would find herself at third on the podium during the 200-meter butterfly at a time of 2: 02. 81. To wrap up the meet, Becdach, Berrow, Bodrock, and junior Sierra Newton would work together to place seventh during the 400 freestyle relay. The Falcons pushed themselves hard to finish the meet at the end of the weekend on the podium in third place. The Bowling Green swim and dive team will travel once again for the Zippy Invitational on Dec. 4-7.
