‘It grabbed me by my hair like microwave popcorn’: Woman assaulted by escaped farm animal in city neighborhood

A woman in Buffalo, New York, had a frightening encounter with an unexpected animal on Thursday—a pig named Breakfast. The pig got loose from its owner’s yard and charged at a local resident in the Hamlin Park Historic District, leaving neighbors shocked and concerned.

According to The Independent, Renita Shadwick was the victim of the surprising attack. Shadwick recounted that Breakfast came straight at her and knocked her to the ground. She described the bizarre experience, saying, “It was on me. And it grabbed me by my hair like you’d shake a bag of microwave popcorn.” Shadwick had to use her arm to shield her face as she struggled with the pig. Throughout the ordeal, she couldn’t shake the feeling of how odd it was to be fending off a pig in the middle of Buffalo.

The situation escalated when the pig’s owner arrived on the scene. Shortly after the attack, a Buffalo police officer came running over. Shadwick managed to catch the moment on video. In the clip, the officer can be heard yelling for Breakfast—the pig—explaining that it belonged to him and had escaped by crawling under their backyard fence. When Shadwick told the officer that the pig had jumped on her and bitten her, the officer responded that Breakfast likely thought she had food because she smelled nice.

After the chaotic scene, the officer was able to capture Breakfast and return the animal to his house, according to neighbors who spoke with 7 News.

Reactions in the community have been mixed. While some locals find the story amusing, others see it as a serious issue. Angie Davis-Leveritte, a nearby resident, said that although seeing a pig in the city is funny at first, it’s actually concerning. “Your first reaction is to laugh because it’s so random,” she said. “But it’s really not safe to have any animal running loose like that. It’s just like having a loose dog—it can be risky.”

Currently, Buffalo’s city ordinances don’t have clear regulations about keeping pigs or other farm animals as pets, which may explain how a pig came to be living in the neighborhood in the first place.

Unusual animal encounters have been popping up more frequently across the country, sparking debates about animal safety and city rules. In response to this incident, Council Member Zeneta Everhart released a statement expressing her concern. She said she was deeply troubled when she heard about the pig attack on Victor Place and immediately notified Buffalo Police. Everhart also spoke with Shadwick and noted she was relieved her injuries were not more severe.

City officials have launched an investigation into what happened, and they’ve called the incident unacceptable. The community now waits to see if new rules will be put in place to prevent similar situations in the future.

‘Dispatch’ Star Aaron Paul on Season 2 Plans for AdHoc’s Hit New Episodic Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Video Game

AdHoc Studio’s choose-your-own-adventure-style video game *Dispatch* launched its final two installments on Wednesday, giving the more than 1 million players who have purchased copies a conclusion to the superhero workplace comedy.

Of course, given that the path a player chooses to take affects the story they get, it’s hard to discuss specific spoilers about the multiple possible endings. However, no matter the path you took, Aaron Paul—who stars in the game as the voice of Robert Robertson, a.k.a. Mecha Man—told *Variety* there’s a chance for more. This was before *Dispatch* launched its first two episodes on October 22 to rave reviews and strong sales.

“Maybe, maybe not. With good storytelling, there’s always room,” Paul said in an interview last month. “I think it could end perfectly here. But also, the door is definitely slightly ajar, for sure, for more. So we’ll see.”

Over the course of its eight-episode first season, the video game *Dispatch* follows a dysfunctional team of misfit heroes as players strategize who to send to emergencies around the city, all while balancing office politics, personal relationships, and their own quest to become a hero.

Robert Robertson is at the center as the dispatch operator who has had to give up on his own superhero career as Mecha Man due to a damaged suit.

Paul says the role, his first video game acting part, was a challenging one because of the multiple different storyline options he went through during the recording process.

“With him in particular, not giving too much away, the dynamic with a lot of the characters are drastically different because of the gamers’ decisions,” Paul explained. “That was a little complicated for me. I think this is why it took so long to record. But it was an interesting challenge because you’re just telling such a different narrative and you gotta respond accordingly.”

Interestingly, though, Paul says he doesn’t actually have a preferred outcome for Robert at the end of Episode 8 of *Dispatch*.

“Actually, you know what? No, I really don’t. They’re all so interesting and it leaves the audience, I think, wanting more, no matter where you land, which is unique,” Paul said. “I don’t want to give too much away, but there are definitely paths that you can take that completely land you somewhere entirely different towards the end and the path forward is like, God knows where that leads, which is really interesting.”

Controversial Ex-Raiders Star Could Return to NFL With Contender

The Las Vegas Raiders’ defense hasn’t been terrible this season, but they clearly could use more help on the defensive line. A big reason why they weren’t overly aggressive in addressing the defensive line during the offseason was that they believed Christian Wilkins would be part of the team this year. However, things quickly took an unexpected turn with Wilkins.

Wilkins wasn’t practicing due to a setback with a foot injury he suffered last season. Then, in a surprising move, the Raiders decided to cut him outright and void his guarantees. Rumors surfaced about a serious off-field issue involving Wilkins and a teammate, but few details have been made public. Since his release, Wilkins has remained a free agent throughout the season. Now, there is talk that some teams may consider giving him a chance.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report listed the Buffalo Bills as a potential fit for Wilkins. Knox wrote, “If he is healthy, though, he would be a terrific addition to almost any defense. He was a regular standout during his five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, often morphing between being a run-stopping specialist and an interior pressure man.”

Knox continued, “Wilkins racked up 98 tackles and 16 tackles for loss in 2022 before logging nine sacks and 30 quarterback pressures. The Buffalo Bills, who recently placed defensive tackle Ed Oliver and defensive end Michael Hoecht on injured reserve, should see if Wilkins is in playing shape.”

### Why Hasn’t Wilkins Been Signed?

Wilkins has remained very quiet since his release by the Raiders. Reports indicated he might challenge the team’s decision to void his contract guarantees, but there have been no recent updates on that front. It’s possible Wilkins is waiting for this situation to be resolved before considering signing with another team.

Additionally, Wilkins was not fully healthy when the Raiders let him go, so he may still be rehabbing his foot injury. Moreover, the fact that Las Vegas chose to cut one of its best defensive players has likely raised red flags for other teams around the NFL.

If Wilkins can get healthy and is eager to continue his career, there will likely be a team willing to give him a chance. However, he may have to wait until next season to get back on the field.

### Raiders Need to Find Defensive Tackle Upgrade in the Offseason

Cutting Wilkins has left the Raiders with a significant hole at defensive tackle. They traded for Thomas Booker hoping he could fill the void, but Booker has yet to make a major impact. Adam Butler continues to perform well, but he is only one player.

Las Vegas needs help across the defense, and the defensive tackle position stands out as one of the biggest needs. Rookie Jonah Laulu has shown some promise and could be a building block, though he is more of an interior pass rusher.

The Raiders might want to find a big-time run-stopper to anchor the middle of their defensive line. They also have rookies Tonka Hemingway and J. J. Pegues on the roster, but neither has seen significant playing time. It may be time to give those young players more reps to evaluate their potential.

In summary, the Raiders’ defensive line struggles highlight the importance of addressing the position in the upcoming offseason, while Christian Wilkins’ future remains uncertain as he looks to regain his health and find a new opportunity.

Liam Coen: Too early to say if Travis Hunter remains a two-way player

Travis Hunter will miss the remainder of the 2025 season following knee surgery. It remains unclear if he will return to the same roles with the team in 2026.

Hunter made a name for himself at Colorado, excelling as both a wide receiver and cornerback. His exceptional performance earned him the Heisman Trophy and convinced the Jacksonville Jaguars to trade up and select him with the second overall pick in this year’s draft.

The extensive number of snaps Hunter played in college and with the Jaguars has raised questions about whether the heavy workload has taken a physical toll on him. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen addressed the situation on Wednesday, describing this season as “a learning experiment” for the team.

Coen emphasized that the lessons learned from this experiment will be crucial in determining how to best utilize Hunter moving forward. “All of that is very premature,” Coen said. “At the end of the day, like every player on this roster, he’ll be evaluated at the end of the season. We’ll be able to assess his strengths, identify areas for improvement, and determine what to build on.”

For now, the team’s focus is squarely on their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers. A win on Sunday would keep the Jaguars firmly in the playoff hunt and provide the team with plenty of positive momentum to discuss.

However, if Jacksonville falls out of playoff contention, questions about Hunter’s usage and role will become part of the broader conversation as the team prepares for the future. The coming weeks will be critical in shaping the next edition of the Jaguars squad.
