New Zealand rallies with three late tries to beat Ireland 26-13 at Soldier Field

**New Zealand Stages Late Rally to Defeat Ireland 26-13 at Soldier Field**

CHICAGO (AP) — Tries in the last quarter by Tamaiti Williams, Wallace Sititi, and Cam Roigard propelled New Zealand to a 26-13 victory over a resolute Ireland side on Saturday. The match took place at Chicago’s Soldier Field in front of 65,000 mostly Irish fans.

For much of the game, New Zealand struggled against Ireland’s physical rush defense and disruptive tactics at set pieces. Ireland entered the final quarter holding a 13-7 lead.

However, the All Blacks managed to break down the Irish defense twice within five minutes in the 61st and 66th minutes. The first came from Williams off a tapped penalty, followed by Sititi who crossed the line after a clever interplay between playmakers Beauden Barrett and Damian McKenzie. Roigard then sealed the win in the 76th minute by sprinting through a gap created by a dominant scrum.

The loss was a setback for Ireland, who had hoped to repeat their famous first-ever victory over New Zealand — also achieved at Soldier Field almost nine years ago to the day.

“It’s a bitter pill to swallow,” said Ireland captain Dan Sheehan. “I don’t think we ever really got going. We saw very small patches of what we were looking for but couldn’t really put the whole picture together.”

Ireland looked set for victory until New Zealand, who had been tentative and disorganized for most of the match, finally unleashed their high-powered attack.

With this win, New Zealand keeps its dream of a first Grand Slam over the Home Unions since 2005 alive. The All Blacks will face Scotland, England, and Wales over the next three weekends.

“That loss was nine years ago so it’s nice to come here and rectify that,” said All Blacks captain Ardie Savea.

### Early Disruptions and Injuries

Both teams faced early challenges in the first half. New Zealand lost captain Scott Barrett to a leg injury just three minutes in, and Ireland was down to 14 men after lock Tadhg Beirne received a yellow card for accidental head contact with Beauden Barrett. Additionally, New Zealand’s midfielder Jordie Barrett suffered a first-half injury.

Ireland drew first blood with an early 10-0 lead, courtesy of a penalty by Jack Crowley and a try by prop Tadhg Furlong. New Zealand replied before halftime with a try by Savea, leaving the score at 10-7 in Ireland’s favor at the break.

The first half was marked by numerous stoppages, lacking smooth flow. Beirne’s yellow card occurred in the 10th minute following an awkward standing tackle where his shoulder made contact with Barrett’s head. Ireland contested the call, arguing the pass to Barrett was forward and Beirne had limited opportunity to adjust his position.

Jordie Barrett sustained a knee injury in the 12th minute and attempted to continue but was soon replaced by Leicester Fainga’anuku.

### Battle of Defense and Midfield

New Zealand initially struggled to penetrate Ireland’s stiff defense, finding more success attacking around the edges. Ireland’s defense was more resilient, with veteran midfielder Stuart McCloskey making notable ground through strong runs.

Ireland extended their lead in the seventh minute with Crowley’s penalty and followed up in the 17th minute with Furlong’s try.

New Zealand responded almost immediately. Fainga’anuku broke free from Gary Ringrose’s tackle on the left flank and offloaded to Will Jordan. From the ensuing ruck, forwards Ethan de Groot, Josh Lord, and Simon Parker combined effectively to put Savea over in the right corner.

### Second Half and Final Push

Crowley added another penalty in the 51st minute, pushing Ireland’s lead to 13-10. By this time, eight of the previous ten penalties had been called against New Zealand, mostly for offenses at breakdowns.

But New Zealand turned the tide with a try by Williams in the 61st minute from a quick tapped penalty. Sititi extended the lead five minutes later, benefiting from a deft combination between Beauden Barrett and Damian McKenzie that left him unchallenged as he crossed the try line.

Roigard closed out the scoring with a try following a dominant scrum, cementing New Zealand’s 26-13 victory.

This hard-fought win underscores New Zealand’s resilience and keeps them firmly in contention for upcoming fixtures against Scotland, England, and Wales.

[Let’s Talk] What are you playing? – November 2025

A new month has started today! Now that we’re in November, we want to know what you’ve been playing. There have been a ton of new releases over the last couple of weeks alone, including *Persona 3 Reload*, *Once Upon a Katamari*, *PowerWash Simulator 2*, *Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection*, *Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake*, and *Tales of Xillia Remastered*.

Have you been playing these games or something else? No matter the case, let us know in the comments!

### Highlights from last week’s topic: Are you sold on Kirby Air Riders?

**GoldFish-Boy:**
I’m so excited for it. Sakurai could make a game about a trash bag and somehow find a way to make it amazing. The amount of love that has obviously been poured into this game is incredible. I was excited at the announcement, more excited after the first direct, but this might be my most anticipated game now after the second direct—even over *Beyond*.

**AJK:**
It’s not my kind of game, but I love how dedicated Sakurai is when he makes a game. I am excited for the fans that they are getting an incredible, feature-packed sequel. 🙂

**RoomWithAMoose:**
I was sold when it was announced. But after these directs, I’ve gone from expecting a nice little nostalgia trip to expecting one of the greatest games of the year.

**Cal:**
Almost sold—I just need to know how meaty Road Trip mode is. I don’t plan on playing online, especially not with randoms, so this will be where the bulk of my time would be spent (along with the checklist).

**Vinicius:**
Yes, I’ve been interested for a while. However, I’m only buying it around December or January as I want to get rid of some of my backlog and play *Age of Imprisonment* first.

What games are you diving into this November? Share your picks and thoughts below!

Mary Katharine Ham Goes After Children’s YouTuber Ms. Rachel for Criticizing the Cutting of SNAP

We certainly are plagued with Rachels: Rachel Maddow, Rachel Bitecofer, Rachel Zegler, and children’s YouTuber Ms. Rachel, who, as we recently reported, was named by *Glamour* as one of its Women of the Year.

This editor admits to having seen only very short clips of Ms. Rachel, as that’s all he could stand. Despite having an audience of children, Ms. Rachel often dips into adult subjects, like politics.

As we shared in August, Ms. Rachel presented a video featuring a “starving” child from Gaza — who also happens to star in a slew of cooking videos featuring lots of food.

Speaking of food, Ms. Rachel is now educating children about the slashing of SNAP benefits because of the Schumer shutdown. Ms. Rachel has nearly 17 million YouTube subscribers.

Mary Katharine Ham wasn’t having it. Do Democrat senators watch Ms. Rachel? Because they’re the ones using SNAP benefits as “leverage.”

She’s no Mr. Rogers.

**Editor’s Note:** The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown over healthcare for undocumented immigrants. They own this.

NFL Announces Punishment for Vikings Players Before Detroit Lions Game

The Detroit Lions are back after their bye week and gearing up to take on the Minnesota Vikings in a high-profile NFC North rivalry on Sunday, November 2, at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Lions come into this matchup riding the momentum of a 24-9 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, October 20, in primetime at home. On the other side, the Vikings are looking to bounce back after a lopsided loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, October 23, on the road.

Both teams have plenty at stake going into this game. For the Vikings, this is a must-win if they want to turn around their 3-4 season and keep pace with the Lions and Packers, who currently sit atop the NFC North, according to NFL research. For the Lions, a victory is crucial to maintain their lead over Green Bay in the division standings.

### NFL Punishes Two Minnesota Vikings Players Following Week 8

Heading into the game, the NFL has announced disciplinary actions against two Minnesota Vikings players. The news broke on Saturday, November 1, as the league regularly penalizes players weekly for conduct during games.

On its official website, the NFL explains that these penalties are issued “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.” The Week 8 report includes fines for:

– **Linebacker Blake Cashman**, who received a $23,186 fine for “unnecessary roughness” and “use of the helmet.”
– **Linebacker Dallas Turner**, fined $19,907 for “unnecessary roughness” and “launch.”

The NFL’s league staff review flagged plays to determine if further disciplinary action is warranted, ensuring fair judgment on infractions.

### Vikings’ Quarterback Situation and Game Outlook

The Vikings have faced some quarterback challenges this season but will return to their so-called franchise quarterback for Sunday’s game. Carson Wentz is out for the rest of the season after suffering a season-ending injury during the game against the Chargers.

Stepping in will be J.J. McCarthy, making his return after a five-game absence. McCarthy was injured in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons and missed the entirety of his rookie season in 2024 due to injury. Facing the gritty Lions in just his third NFL start will be a tough test for the young signal-caller.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell also has undrafted rookie free agent Max Brosmer on the quarterback roster, along with recently signed practice squad quarterback John Wolford. According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, Wolford and O’Connell share a history from their time together with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020 and 2021. Seifert noted on X that there have been previous, unsuccessful attempts to bring Wolford to Minnesota. The two won a Super Bowl together in Los Angeles in 2021.

### Looking Ahead

Sunday’s showdown between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings promises to be a hard-fought battle with significant implications for the NFC North division race. With key player returns, fines issued, and playoff positioning on the line, fans can expect an intense and competitive game at Ford Field.

Andrew Cuomo, Curtis Sliwa closing gap on socialist Zohran Mamdani in latest NYC mayoral election poll

**Radical Socialist Zohran Mamdani’s Lead Over Andrew Cuomo Narrows to 6.6 Points Ahead of Election**

*By Geoff Earle, Khristina Narizhnaya, and Rich Calder | November 1, 2025 | NY Post*

Radical socialist Zohran Mamdani’s lead over Andrew Cuomo has narrowed to just 6.6 points — the slimmest edge he’s held since July, according to a stunning new poll released Saturday.

The latest AtlasIntel survey shows Democratic candidate Mamdani leading the field with 40.6%, while former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, a registered Democrat running as an independent, has climbed to 34%, just days before Tuesday’s election.

“The gap is closing fast — we can feel it on the ground everywhere from the Bronx to Staten Island. At this rate, we win the race. Keep going strong,” Cuomo said.

“Six points in this election is nothing,” the former governor later told reporters while campaigning Saturday in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

He also commented on Mamdani’s platform, noting that New Yorkers have done a good job educating themselves about the candidate’s ambitious campaign promises — such as free bus service and city-run grocery stores — initiatives Mamdani would likely not have the power to implement even if elected mayor.

Coinme fined $300,000, ordered to reimburse Bay Area crypto kiosk scam victim $50,000

An East Bay woman scammed out of $50,000 got her money back thanks to 7 On Your Side.

After investigative reporter Melanie Woodrow reported on the scam last year, the California Department of Financial Protection & Innovation (DFPI) launched an investigation. Now, Coinme, a crypto kiosk operator, is facing fines totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars and has had to reimburse one local viewer.

“We have some very good news,” said Lisa Powell, the scam victim’s daughter. Powell is glowing after her mom, Lois, received a check from Coinme.

Last year, Lois was scammed in a distressing incident.

>A man said, “I have your grandson.” He was so distraught and crying,” Lois recalled at the time.
>The caller convinced Lois her grandson was in jail and she could pay his bail, attorney’s fees, and court costs by feeding $50,000 into a Coinstar machine at a nearby Safeway.

$100 bill after $100 bill, Lois stood at the machine for hours, over the course of more than a day.

“What popped into my mind was kind of 7 On Your Side, those are the people that solve things,” Powell said.

ABC7 Investigative Reporter Melanie Woodrow’s report on the story caught the attention of John King, an attorney with the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation.

>“I saw it personally on the news,” said King in an interview last year.
>King was familiar with a recently passed crypto asset law.
>“One of the key protections in our new crypto asset law is that a crypto kiosk, or crypto ATM, as they’re also known, cannot accept or give out more than $1,000 in a single day,” King explained during last year’s interview.

At the time, Coinme told 7 On Your Side Investigates that the scammer exploited Lois by convincing her to deposit funds into more than 50 different accounts, effectively circumventing Coinme’s safeguards.

However, the author of the legislation, California Senator Monique Limon, clarified that the law does not make exceptions based on how many accounts the customer may use to transact.

>“They were clearly in violation. I just had to keep telling myself that,” Powell said.

DFPI’s investigation confirmed that Coinme had indeed violated transaction limits and failed to include certain legally required disclosures on customer receipts.

In its first enforcement action under the Digital Financial Assets Law, the agency fined Coinme $300,000. This included more than $51,000 to be paid in restitution to California residents like Lois.

>“The fact that you guys took interest in it and decided this was something to talk about was a game-changer, and if it hadn’t been for the interview, there would be no resolution,” Powell said.

Robert Herrell, executive director of the Consumer Federation of California and a major proponent and sponsor of the Digital Financial Assets legislation, weighed in on the enforcement action.

>“It sends a very important signal, Melanie, that breaking this law in California is not acceptable and there will be repercussions,” Herrell said.

By email, a DFPI spokesperson told 7 On Your Side Investigates:

>“DFPI took this recent enforcement action because we do not like to see companies breaking the law and putting consumers’ hard-earned money at risk.”

Powell expressed her gratitude:

>“Your story about Lois touched us all. Thank you to you and channel 7,” she said.
>“I appreciate it, and I’m just very grateful for everything you did.”

Iran’s New ‘Virgin Mary’ Metro Station and What It Says About Faith in the Islamic Republic

**Tehran’s New “Virgin Mary” Metro Station Sparks Debate**

*By Romy Haber | The Catholic Telegraph | October 21, 2025*

This past week, social media was flooded with images of a new metro station in Tehran called the “Virgin Mary” station. The photos quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate among various audiences. Some hail it as a rare gesture of openness, others dismiss it as a staged act aimed at polishing the regime’s image, and many simply wonder if the station even exists.

According to posts circulating online, the “Virgin Mary” station is located on Line 6 of the Tehran metro, near the St. Sarkis Armenian Cathedral. France 24 reports that the station has been under construction for 10 years. Its arched concourse and dome feature religious frescoes and artwork honoring the Virgin Mary, alongside what appears to be a church—presumably the nearby cathedral.

For many, the idea of a metro station in Iran named after the mother of Jesus is surprising. Others see it as consistent with Shiite culture, which also venerates the Virgin Mary. Still others interpret it as an attempt to highlight the country’s religious diversity.

However, many argue that such a move does not align with the Islamic Republic’s record regarding religious minorities. Some dismiss the station as propaganda designed to project a more tolerant image of the regime to international audiences.

The official X account of the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan weighed in, describing the station as “a beautiful sign of coexistence between Iranians and the Armenian community.” In reality, however, this so-called “coexistence” falls far short of international standards for religious freedom and human rights.
