Gandhi Jayanti, observed annually on October 2, commemorates the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence from British rule.

During the British Raj, Gandhi led numerous campaigns against the colonial government, including the Kheda Satyagraha, Champaran Satyagraha, Salt Satyagraha, Non-Cooperation Movement, and the Quit India Movement. His principles of **ahimsa** (non-violence) and **satyagraha** (truth and civil disobedience) became the moral foundation of India’s freedom struggle.

At the age of 13, Gandhi married Kasturba Gandhi. Despite being considered an average student, he was known for his excellent command of English, though his handwriting was notably poor. One of his greatest contributions was his promotion of self-reliance through the use of **khadi** and the spinning wheel, which symbolized economic independence from British textiles.

Mahatma Gandhi was tragically assassinated in 1948. His funeral procession reportedly extended over 8 kilometers, reflecting the immense love and respect he commanded across the nation.

His legacy continues to inspire millions to uphold the values of peace, truth, and justice.
