Justin Fields’ starting role hangs in balance as Jets look to crack win column vs. Panthers
Justin Fields is on the clock. The Jets quarterback is coming off one of the worst passing performances in franchise history, and the question entering Sunday’s game against the Panthers is whether he will be the starting quarterback when it finishes.
Coach Aaron Glenn has fiercely defended Fields this week and given no indication he is thinking of benching him. But the team is 0-6, and Fields is coming off a game in which he took nine sacks and the offense had minus-10 passing yards. You have to think that if Fields struggles again against Carolina, Glenn would have to turn to backup Tyrod Taylor. Not that you can get Glenn to even come close to saying that.
“When you look at what Justin did, the games that he played, listen, I didn’t think he was bad at all,” Glenn said of the four games Fields played prior to last week’s debacle against the Broncos. “I actually thought he did some pretty good things in those four games. In this fifth game, he took a step back, you know, and I’m with you guys 100 percent, and we can’t have that, you know. We have to get better at that, and he knows that. He knows that better than anyone, so I don’t think you just try to bench a player after having one true bad game, because I thought the other games he played fairly well.”

The big topic this week has been how long Fields takes to throw the ball. There also has been discussion of whether Fields needs to be more aggressive taking shots downfield, something he agreed with.
“I feel like I’ve been a little bit too conservative in a sense,” Fields said. “Probably just be a little bit more aggressive. I’ve always just been big on ball security and not putting the ball in jeopardy, but it comes to a point where you just got to find that healthy balance between trying to maybe fit it in smaller windows and just letting it rip.”
The Panthers beat the Cowboys last week to improve to 3-3, winning their second straight game. They have not won three in a row since 2021. However, they are 0-3 on the road this season.
Glenn and the Jets desperately need their first win to quiet the noise around the team. Glenn repeatedly said this week he is undeterred.
“I understand how it looks on the outside, and the thing is, I told you guys and I told the fans, man: Do not let go of the rope,” Glenn said. “The thing I know we’re doing is we’re trying to build a solid foundation so we can consistently try to win.”

**Cuatro “narcoterroristas” a bordo**

US warns of ‘imminent’ attack by Hamas on Palestinians that would violate peace deal
The United States has informed the guarantor nations of the Gaza peace agreement about credible reports indicating an imminent ceasefire violation by Hamas against the people of Gaza. This planned attack on Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement and undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts.
“The guarantors demand Hamas uphold its obligations under the ceasefire terms,” the statement said.
The State Department also warned that if Hamas proceeds with the attack, unspecified “measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire.”
“The United States and the other guarantors remain resolute in our commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining calm on the ground, and advancing peace and prosperity for the people of Gaza and the region as a whole,” the statement added.
Earlier this month, former President Trump secured a historic peace deal between Israel and Hamas, ending nearly two years of fighting.
In the first phase of the deal, the 20 living hostages held by Hamas since October 7, 2023, were freed, along with some of the remains of the 28 deceased hostages. In return, Israel released more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.
However, as Palestinian civilians have returned home over the past week, they have been met with increased violence from Hamas, which has maintained control over the Gaza Strip for years.
Graphic footage surfaced earlier this week allegedly showing Hamas terrorists executing Palestinians in a street in Gaza, as the group attempts to eliminate its political rivals.
### Hamas Executes Rivals, Cracks Down on Civilians in Post-Deal Gaza Power Vacuum
The disturbing footage prompted an immediate rebuke from Trump, who suggested that non-U.S. forces might be deployed if Hamas continues these executions.
“If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, which was not the Deal, we will have no choice but to go in and kill them,” the former president said on Thursday.

Former Rep. George Santos released from prison after Trump commutes his sentence
(CNN) Disgraced former Rep. George Santos, who had been serving a seven-year term for fraud charges that led to his ouster from Congress, was released from prison on Friday night after President Donald Trump commuted his sentence, his lawyer told CNN.
Trump first announced the commutation on Truth Social on Friday evening. According to attorney Joseph Murray, Santos’ family picked him up from the prison about five hours later.
“George Santos was somewhat of a ‘rogue,’ but there are many rogues throughout our Country that aren’t forced to serve seven years in prison,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “George has been in solitary confinement for long stretches of time and, by all accounts, has been horribly mistreated. Therefore, I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life,” Trump added.
Trump’s commutation comes just months after Santos, 37, surrendered on July 25 to serve 87 months in prison. Before he surrendered, Santos told Saudi outlet Al Arabiya English that he asked Trump for a pardon but believed he “got stonewalled.”
“I don’t think it made it to the president,” Santos said of his pardon request at the time. “Unfortunately, gatekeepers have blockaded for it to ever get to the president.”
But even from behind bars, Santos continued to make his case. According to his verified X page, he wrote an open letter to Trump earlier this week, pleading for “fairness” while also saying he takes “full responsibility” for his actions.
“Mr. President, I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for fairness for the chance to rebuild. I know I have made mistakes in my past. I have faced my share of consequences, and I take full responsibility for my actions. But no man, no matter his flaws, deserves to be lost in the system, forgotten and unseen, enduring punishment far beyond what justice requires,” Santos wrote in the letter published in The South Shore Press.
The law firm that represented Santos celebrated the president’s move, telling CNN, “We applaud the President for correcting this injustice.”
Murray posted on X a message on behalf of Santos thanking GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — who he said “fought like a lion” for him — as well as Lauren Boebert, Anna Paulina Luna, and former Congressman Matt Gaetz, whom he described as “in regular contact.”
Santos also expressed gratitude to “the greatest DOJ team ever assembled,” specifically naming Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Associated Deputy AG Diego Pestana, and US Pardon Attorney Ed Martin, among others.
Martin wrote on X he was “honored” to have played “a small role” in Trump granting “clemency” to Santos, and thanked the president for “making clemency great again.”
Meanwhile, the commutation drew mixed reactions from lawmakers. Taylor Greene, who wrote a letter to Trump in August asking him to commute Santos’ sentence, also thanked the president in a post on X, adding that Santos “was unfairly treated and put in solitary confinement, which is torture!!”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, however, slammed Trump for focusing on Santos instead of Americans’ health care — an issue at the center of the ongoing government shutdown.
“Donald Trump has time to free serial fraudster George Santos from prison. But he can’t be bothered to address the Republican healthcare crisis crushing working class Americans,” Jeffries said in a post on X.
In August 2024, the former congressman pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and wire fraud charges stemming from activity during his 2022 midterm campaign.
“I deeply regret my conduct,” Santos said in court at that time. “I accept full responsibility for my actions.”
Santos was expelled from Congress in December 2023, before completing a full term in the US House, becoming only the sixth lawmaker ever to be expelled from the chamber.
During his short time in Congress, reports emerged of Santos having fabricated parts of his biography, including his employment history and education. He eventually admitted to doing that.
Santos represented parts of Long Island and Queens and attempted to run in another New York district before pleading guilty.
Santos had been serving out his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, southern New Jersey, per the federal Bureau of Prisons.

1932 Douglas D32 Greyhound at No Reserve
This 1932 Douglas D32 Greyhound is a remarkable vintage motorcycle that underwent refurbishment during the pandemic lockdown of the early 2020s. The seller purchased the bike in 2024, and it is now being offered at no reserve, complete with service records and a clean Florida title listing it as a 1945 model.
The bike features a transverse-mounted 494cc opposed-twin engine paired with a hand-shifted four-speed transmission. The frame is a black-finished double-downtube rigid design, complemented by a chrome-plated 3.25-gallon fuel tank. The tank is distinctively decorated with blue top and side panels, black rubber knee grips, and bordered with the Clan Douglas tartan pattern showcasing dark green, navy, royal blues, black, and white.
Additional equipment includes an adjustable double-sprung girder fork that provides the bike’s sole source of suspension, a front-hinged double-sprung black leather solo seat, and black-painted fenders. The motorcycle is outfitted with a pedestrian-slicer number plate, a headlight, a taillight, a center stand, and a rear luggage rack fitted with a pair of brown leather tool bags.
The wheels consist of chrome 19-inch stainless-steel rims laced with stainless-steel spokes, mounted with Avon tires — a Speedmaster MkII at the front and a Safety Mileage MkII at the rear. Braking is handled by 8-inch drums, with the rear drum integrated with the sprocket and operated by a left-foot pedal.
The chrome rear-offset handlebar is secured below the steering neck top nut and equipped with end-pivot clutch and front-brake hand levers on the left and right, respectively. It also features a CEV light switch, a timing adjustment lever, John Bull grips, and a twist-grip throttle. The only instrumentation is a Lucas ammeter inset atop the headlight. Without an odometer, the true mileage of the bike remains unknown.
Beneath the frame, the fore-and-aft-mounted 596cc side-valve opposed-twin engine was rated at approximately 14 horsepower when new. It includes removable cylinder heads, enclosed valve gear, a cast-in induction system, and a horizontally configured Amal updraft carburetor. Additional features are dry sump lubrication, a kickstarter, and a chrome low-mount two-into-one exhaust system with a fishtail muffler. The lighting circuit is powered by a B.T.H. “pancake” dynamo mounted directly above the induction system.
Notably, the seller states that the engine currently does not start, attributing the issue to a sticking magneto and clutch. The driveline comprises a multi-plate dry clutch, a hand-shifted four-speed gearbox, and a drive chain.
A photo in the gallery highlights some rust visible on the underside of the fuel cap, demonstrating the bike’s authenticity and wear consistent with its age.
This Douglas D32 Greyhound is a captivating piece of motorcycling history, offered ready for restoration or display, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of classic British motorcycles.
