Mammoth winger Dylan Guenther’s 3rd period tally brings Utah’s winning streak to 7

The Utah Mammoth have kicked off their second season with a bang. With a new mascot, new uniforms, and some exciting on-ice additions like JJ Peterka, optimism is running high in hockey’s newest city.

On the ice, Utah’s line of young guns has delivered spectacularly. The Mammoth edged out the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Sunday, thanks to Dylan Guenther’s clutch third-period goal, extending Utah’s winning streak to seven games.

The winning play saw Peterka sprint to a loose puck, find center Logan Cooley, who then set up Guenther for his seventh point in just five games. With under six minutes remaining in the third period, backup goalie Vitek Vanecek stepped up to secure the victory against the defending Central Division champion Jets.

Throughout this impressive streak, the Cooley-Guenther-Peterka line has consistently produced elite performances. Cooley notched a hat trick against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, followed it up with two goals on Saturday, and kept his point streak alive with the assist against Winnipeg. These three young players appear poised to be a foundational trio for the Mammoth in the years to come.

The team’s roots trace back to the Arizona Coyotes, who showed promise at the holiday break during their final season before relocating. Although they fell short of the playoffs back then, the transition to Utah, the addition of Peterka, and a passionate fanbase have all contributed to a strong start this season.

Notably, the Mammoth’s seven-game winning streak consists entirely of regulation wins, six of which came against Western Conference opponents—an important edge when tiebreakers come into play later in the season.

Maintaining this momentum won’t be easy, as Utah hits the road to face the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Fans will be eager to see if Cooley, Guenther, and Peterka can continue their dynamic play and keep the good vibes rolling on the road trip.
