Australian captain Mitchell Marsh made history by scoring his first-ever T20 international century during the third and final T20I against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui on Saturday. Marsh’s unbeaten 103 off just 52 balls played a pivotal role in steering Australia to a thrilling three-wicket victory while chasing New Zealand’s total of 157 runs.
### Mitchell Marsh – 103* vs New Zealand, 2025
Marsh’s maiden T20I hundred came in a tense chase despite a mid-innings collapse. When Australia stumbled to 93/5, Marsh, along with opener Sean Abbott (13*), steadied the innings. Notably, Marsh was the lone batter to make a significant score, as no other Aussie player managed to cross even 15 runs. His innings included seven sixes and eight fours, helping Australia cross the target with two overs and three wickets to spare.
### Aaron Finch – 172 vs Zimbabwe, 2018
Before Marsh, Aaron Finch held a remarkable T20I record for Australia, scoring a breathtaking 172 runs off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2018. This remains the highest individual T20I score to date. Finch’s masterful innings featured 16 fours and 10 sixes. Paired with D’Arcy Short, who contributed 46, Finch helped Australia post a mammoth total of 229/2. Zimbabwe was then restricted to 129/9, handing Australia a dominant win.
### Shane Watson – 124* vs India, 2016
Former all-rounder Shane Watson was the first Australian captain to score a T20I century. In a 2016 Sydney match against India, Watson blasted an unbeaten 124 off 71 balls, including 10 fours and 6 sixes. Opening the innings, he propelled Australia to a competitive 197/5. This remains the highest T20I score by an Australian on home soil. Nevertheless, India chased down the target in a nail-biting finish during the final over.
