7 arrests made during Dodger celebrations across streets of LA, police say

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles Police Department reported that seven people were arrested Saturday night as Dodger fans took to the streets across the city to celebrate the World Series victory.

Among those arrested were three individuals charged with felony vandalism, one for failure to disperse, one for battery on a police officer, and one for possession of fireworks. Additionally, a woman was arrested after riding a bicycle into a police horse. Fortunately, the horse is reported to be unharmed.

In Echo Park, several businesses, driverless cars, and Metro buses were vandalized. LAPD officers issued a dispersal order at an intersection as large crowds of fans gathered, waving Dodger flags and shooting fireworks into the air. Some officers patrolled the streets on horseback, instructing people to leave the area.

Meanwhile, in Pacoima, video from AIR7 captured cars performing donut maneuvers at an intersection while onlookers ignited fireworks.

The LAPD went on Tactical Alert around 6 p.m. Saturday in anticipation of the celebrations and shut down streets in key areas to help manage the crowds. Dispersal orders were issued at Chick Hearn Court and 11th Street, as well as at Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue when crowds grew.

Kobel makes a vital save as Dortmund beats Frankfurt on penalties in German Cup

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Gregor Kobel sent Borussia Dortmund into the third round of the German Cup with a diving save that secured a penalty shootout victory against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.

Midfielder Farès Chaïbi stepped up to take Frankfurt’s fourth penalty, needing to score after Ritsu Doan had fired his shot over the bar earlier. Chaïbi’s low shot to Kobel’s right was brilliantly saved by the Swiss goalkeeper, who got down to hold the ball. This gave Dortmund a 4-2 shootout win, sparking flare-waving celebrations from Dortmund’s away fans.

The loss continues a troubled run for Frankfurt, who have managed just one win in their last six games across all competitions.

The match finished 1-1 after extra time, with Julian Brandt’s goal for Dortmund canceling out an opener from ex-Dortmund player Ansgar Knauff for Frankfurt.

In other German Cup action, Holstein Kiel, a second-tier team, caused an upset by knocking out Wolfsburg with a 1-0 win thanks to Alexander Bernhardsson’s penalty. Wolfsburg played most of the game with 10 men after Jenson Seelt was sent off in the 36th minute for receiving two bookings in quick succession.

Robert Glatzel’s 83rd-minute penalty secured a 1-0 victory for Hamburger SV over 10-man Heidenheim.

Hertha Berlin also advanced with a 3-0 win over Elversberg in a match featuring two second-division teams.

Later Tuesday, Leipzig, Hoffenheim, and St. Pauli will all be in action in the German Cup second round.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s goalpost dunk draws a $14,491 fine

The goalpost can be used as a prop during celebrations—as long as it is not touched.

On Monday night against the Texans, Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba dunked the football over the crossbar after scoring a touchdown. However, because he touched the goalpost during his celebration, he was flagged and subsequently fined.

The price tag? $14,491.

Although the NFL decided several years ago to become more lenient with celebrations—shifting from the “No Fun League” to what some call the “Some Fun League”—touching the goalpost remains strictly prohibited. This rule exists mainly because Saints tight end Jimmy Graham once moved the goalpost while dunking the ball, prompting the league to clamp down on such actions.

Looking ahead, JSN might want to consider a finger roll instead. If his fingers hit the yellow crossbar again, the NFL will be reaching into his pockets once more.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca receives one-match touchline ban: Here’s why

**Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca Receives One-Match Touchline Ban: Here’s Why**

*By Rajdeep Saha | October 15, 2025, 10:03 PM*

Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has been handed a one-match touchline ban and fined £8,000 by the Football Association (FA). This penalty follows his exuberant celebrations during Chelsea’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 7 of the Premier League 2025-26 season.

### The Incident: Over-the-Top Celebrations Lead to Ban

Maresca’s intense celebrations after Chelsea’s last-minute winning goal did not go down well with referee Anthony Taylor. The official issued Maresca a second yellow card, resulting in his dismissal from the touchline and being sent to the stands.

The FA stated that Maresca’s behavior was inappropriate and/or involved abusive or insulting words or gestures during the match. Maresca admitted the charge and accepted the standard penalty, meaning he will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest this Saturday.

### Details of the Ban

Despite the suspension, FA regulations allow a banned manager to communicate with coaching staff and enter the dressing room before kick-off, during half-time, and after full-time.

This marks Maresca’s second touchline ban as Chelsea manager. He previously served a ban in April 2025 after receiving a third yellow card of the season for celebrations following Pedro Neto’s last-minute winner at Fulham.

### Maresca Reflects on the Victory

Following the game against Liverpool, Maresca took to Instagram to share his thoughts. He described the late win as “a beautiful joy for all of us,” while expressing disappointment at not being able to celebrate the victory with the fans due to the sending off.

He concluded, “Now, recovery energy and focus on what we can do better.”

### Chelsea’s Current Standing

After seven matches, Chelsea sits 7th in the Premier League table. The Blues have recorded three wins, two draws, and two defeats so far this season. They have scored 13 goals and conceded nine, showing promising but inconsistent form as the campaign progresses.
