MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Leon Majcen’s “Don’t Leave The Light On”

“‘Don’t Leave The Light On’ pretty much sums up my life these past few years being on the road-highs and lows and everything in between,” says Nashville-based singer/songwriter Leon Majcen. “I’m thankful I get to make a living this way, and I don’t plan on changing anything anytime soon.” It’s certainly a far cry from the commercial fishing docks of Madeira Beach, Fla., where Majcen worked as recently as 2021 before setting his sights on Music City. Growing up in the town of Safety Harbor near Tampa, he was drawn to the vivid storytelling of Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and Guy Clark. His preferred setlist wasn’t exactly tourist-friendly, but Majcen gave it shot anyhow, enjoying some success in local bars before heading to New York University for college. The job filleting and packing fish came when Majcen returned home after tiring of the big city. These days, though, he’s opening for Turnpike Troubadours, Grammy winner Margo Price and others as he rides the momentum of his startlingly mature debut, Better Days (Cloverdale), which features contributions from fellow neo-folk travelers Kyle McEvoy (a. k. a. the Field Tapes), the Desert Willows and the Cloverdale Family Band. The striking new video for “Don’t Leave The Light On” comes courtesy award-winning director Ethan Locy. “Working with Ethan on this was a great,” says Majcen. “He knew how to get the point across without it being too on the nose.” We’re proud to premiere Leon Majcen’s “Don’t Leave The Light On.” -Hobart Rowland.
