The first man she meets as a single woman is Joseph (Jeremy Brandt), who is introduced to her by Connie “Meemaw” Tucker (Annie Potts).

Mary’s crush on Pastor Rob could never fully develop back when she was still married, as depicted in *“Young Sheldon.”* Nonetheless, they became very close during his stint as the youth pastor at Mary’s church. Pastor Rob even tried to coax her away to work with him at his parish in Arkansas, which sparked a confrontation between Mary and George (Lance Barber), who mistakenly believed she was having an affair.

Thanks to the tension he caused, Pastor Rob quickly became unpopular among fans of *“Young Sheldon.”* After Mary declines to move with him, he quietly exits the story.

Joseph, on the other hand, starts with a clean slate. Things look hopeful, and it’s clear he genuinely cares for Mary. Importantly, he doesn’t have Pastor Rob’s slippery, uncertain nature. That said, there’s still plenty of opportunity for Joseph to cause Mary pain, whether unintentionally or by design.

We already know they won’t end up together—the fact that Sheldon’s mother is single in *“The Big Bang Theory”* means something will likely go wrong in Mary and Joseph’s relationship. Hopefully, viewers will appreciate Joseph’s role in *“Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage”* even if his storyline is relatively short-lived.
