The Colts started Sunday’s matchup against the Titans strong, building a 17-7 lead by halftime. Michael Badgley opened the scoring with a 43-yard field goal, followed by Jonathan Taylor capping Indianapolis’ second possession with an 18-yard touchdown run. Later, receiver Michael Pittman made a spectacular one-armed catch to extend the Colts’ lead to 17 points midway through the second quarter.

However, after that, the Titans’ defense stiffened, forcing the Colts to punt on consecutive possessions. Notably, as highlighted by the CBS broadcast, Roger McCreary’s sack of Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (Jones) midway through the second quarter marked the first time all season that Richardson had been sacked on third down. Then, Richardson was brought down again during Indianapolis’ two-minute drill, making it only the second game this season where he was sacked multiple times.

This defensive pressure gave the Titans an opportunity to narrow the gap before halftime. Unfortunately for Tennessee, Joey Slye’s 58-yard field goal attempt veered well to the right and missed. Earlier in the second quarter, Cam Ward connected on a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Gunnar Helm, which accounted for Tennessee’s only points in the half.

By halftime, Ward had completed 8 of 13 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. On the other side, the Colts had amassed 205 total yards and 14 first downs but struggled on third down, converting just 1 of 4 attempts. Richardson was 13-of-19 passing for 146 yards and a touchdown, while Jonathan Taylor had rushed for 72 yards on eight carries, most of which came in the first quarter.

The Colts won the opening coin toss and chose to receive, meaning the Titans will start with the ball at the beginning of the third quarter.
