Julia Fox says she was trying to pay proper homage to Jacqueline Kennedy.
The Uncut Gems star attended Julio Torres’ “The Cursed Amulet” Halloween party on October 30, dressed as the former first lady on the day her husband, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in 1963—complete with bloodstained clothing.
Although she was immediately met with backlash, with many calling out the recreated look for being insensitive, Julia stood her ground and explained why it was meant to honor the icon.
“I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit,” Julia explained in an October 31 Instagram post alongside photos of her look. “Not as a costume, but as a statement. When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her bloodstained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’”
