1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL 4-Speed at No Reserve

This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is a beautifully maintained classic, powered by a 2.3-liter inline-six engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in Light Red (519) over a black leather interior, presenting a timeless and elegant appearance.

The exterior features a black convertible soft top alongside a removable white hardtop, complemented by 14″ painted steel wheels with matching hubcaps and bright trim rings, mounted with 195/75 Goodyear Integrity tires. Additional equipment includes power steering, a driver-side mirror, US-specification headlights, and heat-absorbing glass on the windshield, side windows, and hardtop. The boot lid was refurbished in 2019, and the convertible top frame was realigned for optimal fit and function. Paint meter readings are available in the photo gallery.

This W113 SL was thoughtfully refurbished approximately 25 years ago and was acquired by the current owner in 2018. The restoration included a repaint in Light Red around the time of refurbishment, and more recent mechanical work has been completed to keep the car in excellent running condition. In 2019, the idler arm bushings and sway bar bushings were replaced, and the front stabilizer mounts were rebuilt.

Inside, the cabin features bucket seats that were re-covered in black leather in 2018, creating a fresh and comfortable environment. The interior appointments include an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, a heater, and a Sony CD stereo unit (note: the radio is currently non-functional). The two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500 rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature.

The odometer reads just over 79,000 miles, with approximately 1,000 miles driven by the current owner. Total mileage on the vehicle is unknown.

Under the hood, the 2.3-liter M127 inline-six engine was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection. In 2021, the fuel injection pump and injectors were rebuilt, and in 2022, ignition components such as spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, ignition points, and the fuel filter were replaced to ensure reliable performance. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through the original four-speed manual transmission, providing an engaging driving experience.
